LINKIN PARK
Linkin Park is working on the follow-up to Hybrid Theory, while finalizing the packaging for their re-worked album Reanimation, which will be out July 30th. Singer Chester Bennington recently gave an update to Britains Metal Hammer magazine about the sound of their next studio album:
"It's progressing well and I'm really happy with it. We have a lot of songs written and there are a lot of dope beats and cool loops going on. We've got some sick, sick heavy guitars. There's just some great music on there. The stuff I've worked on so far is really easy for me to sing over. It's really easy for me to come up with vocal melodies. And that's the key for me, the ability to come up with good melodies. The only real difference is the guitars are that little bit heavier.
"In my opinion there's some pretty PANTERA-esque guitar riffs, but at the same time it's not super heavy. It's really tastefully done. I think the beats are really awesome. On Hybrid Theory they're really cool, but the beats on this album are a lot more original and have a lot more character and really hit hard. The only way to describe the whole thing is that it's a little bit harder and a little bit softer at the same time. We feel a little bit more comfortable and a little bit more mature."

KID ROCK
Kid Rock made his first statement about the copyright lawsuit filed against him, while attending the MuchMusic Video Awards in Toronto, Canada. Rock sums it up as a 1-800-ambulance chaser thing. The Microhits Music Corporation filed a copyright infringement lawsuit in a California court and claim Kid Rocks song Cowboy borrows from the 80s hit I Wanna Be A Cowboy. A transcript of the Kid Rock statement: "There's a lot of things that seem to be wrong with America. I think one good thing about Britain is that if you sue somebody, and you lose, you have to pay court costs. And [in the U.S.] is generally a system where people are just scratching each other's backs to get paid, and they do it on people like me, who have worked hard for ten, twelve years to have every single dime. Frankly, it pisses me off . . . I'd like to tell that attorney he can stick my dick in his mouth and choke on it. Because I think it's bullshit when I'm trying to take care of my son, and take care of my beautiful fiancee here [motions to Pamela Anderson], and do all the wonderful things that is the American dream. So fuck him, generally."

TED NUGENT - THE OSBOURNES
Ted Nugent has said some more unkind words about the Mtv series The Osbournes and how Sharon is exploiting her husband for profit. The section below was taken from Nugents interview at www.salon.com: I think the success of The Osbournes as a TV show is an indictment of the soullessness of mankind. Now, I'm just a guitar player, but when I see a train wreck, I don't look at it and laugh - I try to save injured people. You're not supposed to wring entertainment out of tragedy. Ozzy is a nice man, he is a kind man, he is an extremely talented man, extremely tenacious, obviously. But he is the poster boy of why I never touched poisons in my life. Because I don't want to drool, nor do I want to allow a woman in my life to take advantage of my drooling condition to make millions of dollars from people laughing at me. That's what she has done. And no one is laughing with the Osbournes - they are laughing at them. I find that soulless."
On whether the Osbournes represent the family life that people think most rock stars have: "That's the worst thing! There's three levels. Well, there's obviously a million levels. But let's go with the obvious three. There's Jerry Garcia's level: They did so many drugs they died. You don't have enough tape and I don't have enough time to list all the dead assholes. That's Level 1: The ultimate failure of individuals and society to identify deadly conduct. Horrifically, not only didn't they identify it, they fucking celebrated it. They encouraged it, they wrote about it, they danced about it, they drew people into it. So now, you have death and mayhem out of control. That's not an opinion, that's an observation of 53 years clean and sober. I'd like to go see Jimi Hendrix, I'd like to go see John Belushi, I'd like to, well, I wouldn't like to go see Jerry Garcia, he's not one of my favorite guitar players. But that's the ultimate stupidity: Poison yourself to death for no other reason except that some trendy asshole thought it was groovy, baby.
"The second level is Ozzy: You're not dead, but damn close. And again, I'm to repeat this: I LIKE OZZY. He is a good guy. He is an extremely talented man. More talented for the fact that he took those talents he does have, which are moderate, and sold 50 million records with them. He surrounded himself with the Randy Rhoads and the Tommy Aldridges and the Zakk Wyldes and mastered building a million homes out of timber that most people couldn't have built a barn with. That's real talent.
"So that's Level 2: You did all the stupid things, but you survived. Great.
"Then there is Level 3: Ted. He defied the stupidity and his American dream soars on the wings of an American eagle. Because my happiness - the content, the fiber, the joys, the emotion - is all thriving in my life, because I discipline myself. Aha! That's what Jerry and Ozzy didn't have: The big 'D'. Discipline. My parents taught me to shoot a gun conscientiously, safely, and responsibly, and disciplined me if I didn't. I would get my block knocked off, which is what Ozzy's little brats need a good dose of. God, I wish my dad was still alive. He could fix those kids in one night. I'd just say, Dad, could you fix those assholes for me? Thank you very much.
"Level 3 is those who are smart enough not to drink and drive, not to poison their God-given gifts, and to live the American dream of seeking excellence, and the resulting happiness that can not be stopped."

KORN
Korn guitarist Munky recently conducted an interview with Britains Metal Hammer magazine and made two statements. One, he apologized for helping unleash Limp Bizkit on the world and second, he admitted the time was right for Wes Borland to leave Limp Bizkit. An excerpt from Metal Hammer magazine.
Commenting on helping Limp Bizkit get signed:
"Yeah, sorry about that. I mean, Fred Durst knocked on our bus door in Jacksonville like, 'Hey man, listen to my tape,' so it's our fault. I'm not ashamed of that, it's just sometimes when you bring a band to the public you can't control what people are going to do, and it's silly to think you can when you want them to do one thing and they do another. You just feel frustrated.
Commenting on guitarist Wes Borland's departure from Limp Bizkit:
"Personally I'm going to miss Wes Borland. He was a great member of that band and a very strong member. I hope he'll do well with his new thing [EAT THE DAY] and I think he will, 'cause he's a creative monster. Honestly I think he made the right move. I think he got out at the right time."

An excerpt of Mansons entry from www.marilynmanson.com:
"I am excited and relieved to have finished recording all of Ginger's drum tracks and we wrote one new song this week as a bit of a therapeutic fire extinguisher. I welcome my new bandmember. I don't really feel the sting of insults anymore but I care about my friends (new and old) so I hope this community can contain their pointless prejudices.
"It was nice to hear [KORN frontman] Jonathan Davis complimenting our album, and showing support. I also got a surprising call from Gidget (Brad Stewart), who has always been like a brother. He is truly talented and I hope to help him with his new work. It would be surreal to play a song together again, since we have put the past behind us.

LIMP BIZKIT * FILTER part 3
Filter singer Richard Patrick has posted another open letter to Fred Durst. Taken from www.officialfilter.com:
Dear Fred,
Limp Bizkit and your music astounds me. I've been a Limp Bizkit fan since the day I met you. I kind of live in a vacuum, in my own little Filter world but when I saw you on family values I realized I was looking at a man with a vision and a dream. You have given the world incredible music - and I'm speaking about you, Wes, Sam, Lethal and John - you guys have given the world a wonderful glimpse of youth culture that is comparable to The Who back in the 70s when they infused a generation of legitimate rock. And that's just your music. Your vision as a video director has inspired me to go ahead and co-direct my own videos. As an A&R man, you have picked up bands that are also, and I don't use this word lightly, Awesome. Staind, Puddle of Mudd, etc. So you know I have full and utter respect for you.
Now here's the reason why we've had trouble. You said that the second family values sucked because of whatever reason. I took that personally because I was on tour with you. I said something that was a little cruel, but it was still from my heart. The other thing that bothered me, was that you used the press as a way to vent. My grandfather told me at a young age, think before you speak. Ripping on the guy from Creed, or picking on Alanis Morrisette, isn't doing anybody any good. That type of stuff just makes you look bitter. If you say things and it's published, you should warn me, because I won't respond in a manner such as this. But when I was called an ungrateful sack of shit and that "it should be put in bold letters" that hurt, and that's a hateful thing to say. I understand the lead time with the interview but they still printed it. So being a man, I stood up for myself and I publicly said that you should seek help. I've also seen you say wonderful things about me, which I'm so grateful for, but I think you need to stop using the press as a therapeutical way of dealing with your problems.
I am definitely willing to put this behind us. When I hugged you at Puddle of Mudd, I could feel love from the both of us, and I'd rather feel that than feel hurt. We have a common thread that bonds us, we suffer from LSD: lead singer disease. I'd really love to talk to you; man to man, but more importantly singer to singer
Much Love and Respect,
Richard Patrick

LIMP BIZKIT * FILTER part 2
In a follow-up to yesterdays Rock Report, Limp Bizkit singer has replied to Richard Patricks statement that Fred needs psychiatric help. Below is Dursts open letter from www.limpbizkit.com
"Dear Rich, this is Fred. I read your comments in your site and cannot believe how you are acting. That interview is 1 and a half years old that just got published with some extra comments about Wes. It hurts to know you disregard the other musical talents in our band such as Lethal, John, Sam, and myself. We play a huge role in what goes on with our music. It is our world as individuals for sure. and as for help, I need all I can get. You could obviously use some yourself. I love you and your music and really love your new album, but come on man. Is stabs at me really what's going on? You took stabs at us in the press before, me I meant. I wont take this as a bad thing but dude we don't need this tension in our world today. We have to be a family. I can believe you wrote this because of things you've said before, but I cant believe you didn't check with me first. What you said to me at PUDDLE [OF MUDD's concert] was great. That's where it ended. This is just some new controversy that the world as we know it can sink their teeth into. Good for you. Can't wait for the full package to come out. I'll be first in line. Later Rich. Thanks again from all of us here in the BIZKIT camp."
A PERFECT CIRCLE
A Perfect Circle guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen says the band has completed the recording sessions for their sophomore album. The guitarist describes the sound as ethereal and builds up to a heavy thing rather than being heavy all the time. More details as they become available.
ROB ZOMBIE
Rob Zombie has announced that the MGM movie studios will release his first feature-length film this Halloween. Zombie is currently re-editing The House of 1000 Corpses to give it an R rating and is working with producer Scott Humphrey to finish the films score. The $7 million movie was filmed in the summer of 2000 and centers around a couple, whose car breaks down in a creepy character-filled town.
THE UNION UNDERGROUND
The Union Underground continues to write songs for their sophomore full-length album, but while we wait, the live E.P. One Nation Underground will be out June 25th.

BUSH
Bush singer Gavin Rossdale says, He didnt fire guitarist Nigel Pulsford. Rossdale posted an explanation through his journal section of the bands website and says everything has been misconstrued and he hasnt even been able to talk with Pulsford one on one. Rossdales entry from www.bush-music.com
"I have been waiting to speak to Nigel. Obviously, we need to talk - because of that, I have not been able to write in the journal as I was waiting for more info. Also, it is essential that we maintain the integrity (me and Nigel) that we have enjoyed for years. We have achieved momentous things. It would be wrong to betray that.
"The idea that I fired [Nigel] six days after the birth of his son is wrong and untrue. I wrote him a letter. I opened the can of worms, and quite simply, he evaporated. But yes, I did write the letter.
"It was not sudden. By his own admission, he had been unsure of his desire to continue. Over the years, that becomes less helpful. Being in a band is being together against the world. You need to be pulling in the same direction. Mostly.
"I do not want to say any more on this for now. It does no one any favors. It is not ideal and it is not easy, but it is life and that's how it is."

LIMP BIZKIT * FILTER
Limp Bizkit singer Fred Durst is in another War of Words and this verbal battle features Filter leader Richard Patrick.
Durst is featured in the interview section of the current issue of Playboy magazine. In the interview, Durst comments on a statement made by Patrick when Durst was allegedly trying to start a relationship with Christina Aguilera.
Durst from Playboy:
"Patrick was like, 'Fred fucking ruined the credibility of rock 'n' roll,' Fucking asshole. I took his ass on the Family Values tour when no one wanted me to. I believed in his record. I'm a huge FILTER fan. That guy's an ungrateful sack of shit. Fucking put that in bold letters, man. It's bullshit the way some people are so two-faced? How did I ruin rock 'n' roll?"
Patricks reaction from www.officialfilter.com:
On another note, it seems Fred Durst and I have a little problem. I'm a little offended about what he said about me in the recent Playboy magazine. Fred I hate to say this, but you need psychiatric help. Everyone that is good, you shit on, you think the world is according to Fred Durst and Fred Durst alone, and that's why Wes (the main musical genius of Limp Bizkit) left you. I thought I made up with you at the Puddle of Mud concert and I thought everything was cool but apparently not. If you email me I would be proud to find doctors that specialize in psychiatric help for you. Mental illness is nothing to be laughed at, and you're obviously suffering from some serious bitterness or clinical depression towards the world. All my best to you because I still love your band and I still love you. I just hope you seek the help that you need.
Love
Richard Patrick
