Metallica vocalist James Hetfield was interviewed by the "Chicago Sun-Times" newspaper about the positive effects of their documentary "Some Kind of Monster" and his bandmates.
Q. My Sun-Times colleague Roger Ebert gave the film a three-star review, but he expressed some concern for one of your bandmates. He wrote: "There are hints in the film that a little rehab would not be amiss with [Lars] Ulrich." Are you worried about your friend and drummer?
A. He's a brother in arms. We've been together for 22-odd years - and it has been odd years [laughs] - and sometimes we feel like we totally know each other, and other times we don't. There's a little bit of pride sometimes when someone makes a mistake and they don't want to admit. You know, for me to come back and really try at getting what I need in life out here, with the so-called structure - for me, freedom through structure is pretty huge. I needed structure in my life.
Lars is very unstructured, and he still believes that that's just how he is, and it could be true. But there are still things that happen in his life that I see, "Boy, can't you see that's not the healthiest choice?" There's part of me that wants to walk up and tell him, but there's another part of me that says, "Hey, I'm not God. This isn't my world that I'm controlling. He's got to figure out his own path for himself." We all do, and I'm still learning about me.
VELVET REVOLVER
Velvet Revolver singer Scott Weiland has posted a lengthy statement at velvetrevolver.com about their current song "Fall To Pieces".
"If there was a turning point for me over the last year and a half it was the day 'Fall To Pieces' was written. The night before, I had just gotten arrested. It wasn't the first time obviously, but to the point of which I had sunk in my soul had seemed as if there was a bottomless oblivion that I would never be able to crawl out of. I had lost my wife and children recently, my old band [STONE TEMPLE PILOTS] had fallen apart, and now the spectre of losing my freedom loomed over me like dark heavy wet blankets. The only thing positive in my life was the new band VELVET REVOLVER. New blood. New start. The song symbolizes both. It really is the cornerstone of this record for me; if it wouldn't have happened, the record wouldn't have happened. The only way to be real about the subject matter of the song was to tell the truth on film. It wasn't hard to sell this to the band, they lived it with me. I felt Kevin Kerslake would be the only director that could possibly get me to the point of reliving some of those narcotic nightmares and re-drudging some of the pain out of the old wounds that have healed from [wife] Mary's and my 12-year relationship. In short, it was the most difficult video I've ever done from a fear perspective, yet at times with beautiful, sweet memories that are chronicled on paper and in the heart and mind. All in all it was somethin' else! 'She's still my little Rock-n-Roll'"
Velvet Revolver earned the award for "Best International Newcomer" at the "Kerrang! Awards" in England.

HOOBASTANK
Hoobastank lyricist Doug Robb continues to be amazed regarding the success of their song "The Reason" and the its connection with fans.
ROBB: "They go, 'That song, I feel like you are sitting right next to me and you like picked my brain and it's everything I'm going through and it's everything I've gone through.' I get that all the time. I think it's honestly just because the song is about just human beings, like human emotion you know, like my emotions and my experiences when it comes to relationships and stuff, like that are not unique to myself only, you know? It's human nature to go through these things."
