![]() Nonpoint's Third Album "Recoil" -- In Stores Now!! Elias Soriano - Vocals Andrew Goldman - Guitar KB - Bass Robb Rivera - Drums |
Elias Soriano is not content to sit still and neither is his band. Soriano, the vocalist for the Ft. Lauderdale hard rock outfit Nonpoint, featuring drummer Robb Rivera, guitarist Andrew Goldman, and bassist KB; is overflowing with the pent-up energy and excitement from finishing the band's astonishing new record, "Recoil." "The title of the record comes from our bass player KB," Soriano confesses. "It's about getting back, recoiling...taking a punch and coming back hard! It's getting back to writing, it's about playing live it's about what we love to do. Nonpoint is back harder and better than before." And that's saying a lot. After selling over 300,000 records with their first two releases Nonpoint spent 12 months writing and recording their Lava Records debut and the result, Recoil, is an awesome slab of aggressive rock that captures the driving thrill of their infamous live shows. "It's hard to capture the energy of our live shows. If I had to describe it," Soriano continues, "I'd suggest putting yourself in a room with absolutely no doors or windows and repeatedly punching yourself in the face. Pretty soon, you'll begin to get the idea. We banged our previous album Development in just 3 months, but with Recoil, we took an entire year off and just wrote. "We jammed, we played and we wrote. Recoil is about the energy everyone wants, that heavy thing you get at our shows that, and the melody. It's so much more satisfying." Recoil is the product of a year's dedication. The album, co-produced by Nonpoint and producer Jason Bieler, includes scorchers like, "The Same", "Broken Bones" and "Move Now" which hold fast to the "heavy thing" Nonpoint fans love. The record's first single "The Truth" and songs like "Side With The Guns" are both heavy and melodic but manage to explore the deeper philosophical questions of life and government. "It's all about this whole war and it's about the truth. There are a lot of untruths and a lot of bullshit that we're being subjected to and it's difficult to know to trust, isn't it?" Soriano is most proud of the song "Rabia," (in this translation meaning rage). The song completely sung in Spanish, immediately jumps out of the speakers and throttles the listener with devastating power. "We played it out once and the place went absolutely nuts! It really shows what we can do when we put our heads together." It truly is one of the more adventurous tracks on the album and one that Nonpoint is looking forward to performing at every show. "I generally write all they lyrics but our drummer Robb wrote "Rabia" with me. He and I both speak Spanish so we collaborated. He's a little better at the language than I am since he was raised in Puerto Rico." Recoil rings loud with 12 new tracks, including a surprising take on the Phil Collins classic, "In the Air Tonight." "In The Air Tonight" was an idea that the band had been throwing around for a couple of years. It was just something that we all sat down and finally decided to do. It was one of the first songs we discussed covering and it clicked when we tested it out live." "As a band, we split everything 4 ways. 'Pull your weight!' we say; so everybody gets room to move. Lyrically I like Pink Floyd, Deftones, Glassjaw and artists like that. I tent to write more straightforward hard-edged lyrics. We come together as a team, we simplify and we get things done!" Although Nonpoint has only been around for a few years, they've been playing constantly. The band has appeared on Ozzfest in both the US and in the UK; and they've toured with credible artists such as Linkin Park, Disturbed, Sevendust and The Deftones. "We love to play anywhere, anytime, anyplace. The only thing that changes is the size of the venue." Soriano continues, "It just comes out of us. About an hour before the show, reality sets in and the butterflies start happening. Then you throw-up for a second, put your game face on and it happens. When we walk out there, no one had better walk on that fuckin' stage 'cuz they're going to get destroyed! It's just sweat and energy and rrrgghhh!!" "We're really proud of this record. There's so much on here and it definitely shows people how much we've grown. Let me tell you something," Soriano laughs, "We roll like a gang when we get on stage. Robb comes off his kit three or four times during the set. He plays sideways so everybody can see him." Soriano continues, "Hitting the stage with Andrew, KB and Robb is one of the most powerful feelings I have ever had, just knowing the riffs and rhythms are going to come correct allows me to lose myself in the music. We don't need lights or banners, we're just bringing that heavy thing!" Nonpoint fans do indeed know. "We try to stay in touch with the fans. I hang out as much as I can. Robb is in the Internet king and keeps in touch with our fans that way. We ar ethe diary of the average man, whether it's the darkest or the happiest feeling, we try to capture that, because we feel that through our energy, we can express it all." Nonpoint is ready to tap that incredible energy, that heavy thing on Recoil. "We're ready to step it up and not just a little bit...we want to smash it out of the park!" Elias Soriano and his band are ready to come out swinging. |
