Esta es mi Ciudad MARCH 30 - JUNE 16
The UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures and Robert G. Cole High School have partnered to produce the museum’s next student exhibit. “San Antonio: Esta es mi Cuidad,” is a celebration of San Antonio architecture, tourism, and history from both an artistic and photo-journalistic perspective. Student photographers from Cole High School have lived all over the country, and even the world, as military children. These images feature the elements of our city that ring true to their vision of the spirit of San Antonio. Robert G. Cole High School’s commercial and fine art photography programs are open to 9th-12th graders and designed to challenge students to rise to their academic and creative potential. Class content is based on journalistic and artistic principles with emphasis on real world application including publishing work, participating in contests and galleries, and commercial photography opportunities. The Cole Photography Program was named the Rising Star of Texas program by the Association of Texas Photography Instructors in 2018, and since its inception in 2013, numerous student photographers have received local, state, and national awards for their work.

The Creation of Me DECEMBER 8, 2018 - MARCH 10, 2019
A three-month art project challenged students from Brooks Academy of Science and Engineering to take on the complicated and nuanced theme of identity. The UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures has collaborated with Brooks to show the results of this project as the next student exhibit, "The Creation of Me." Through interviews with parents, grandparents and other family members, students uncovered stories about their heritage and developed an understanding of their places in society. The exercise instilled a sense of pride in their pasts and their families. They discovered and defined who they are and where they come from. Using the dry point with Plexiglas process, students turned a family photo into a work of art. The institute will select from 46 pieces from student participants in grades 9 to 12. Viva San Antonio: Celebrating our City DECEMBER 8, 2018 - MARCH 31, 2019
UTSA anthropology students have chosen to research tourism's role in San Antonio as a class project, evaluating its impact on local culture and in the construction of the community's collective memory. The class studies trends and impact of changes through the Alamo's evolving role in the city, Fiesta's emergence as an annual tradition, the construction and expansion of the San Antonio River Walk, HemisFair '68, and the city's projected growth. The students contend that the emergence of tourism industry may have created disparities in authenticity, as well as gender and ethnic representation. Institute of Texan Culture 801 E. Cesar E.
