![]() Kevin Vargas and Brian Kendall hanging out with John Moyer of The Union Underground The Union Underground I did not grow up with the guys of UU like many of the KISS extended family so I don't feel I owe them any accolades or ill will for some petty little "my bands better than your band" battle from pre-signing days. I also wasn't buddies with the guys as they were cutting their teeth, or recording their Columbia Records national debut album. However, I have been aware of them since the beginning of their climb. As an "outsider" from their inner city-circle, I do have a somewhat unbiased opinion. My assessment of The UU, the journey...IN the beginning, they were good, not great. They got better, worked to improve, and deserved that label deal. They got good enough to justify the amount of promotion and marketing Columbia put into "The Art Of Rebellion." Upon returning to S.A. for "homecoming" gigs were VERY good. They have been great to deal with during the whole process. Though currently in Label limbo, are NOT finished as a National act; someone is going to sign them. Just like in sports, the music Industry gladly funds POTENTIAL. San Antonio should be thanking them for the attention our local scene has gotten due to their success. Record companies and talent scouts are always asking who's worth a look in San Antonio. The level of interest in a local scene only heats up when one of your bands breaks out from the "minor leagues" ("local band" status) to the "majors" (National recording act.) There's a lot of talent bubbling under in S.A. and they all owe a debt of gratitude to UU for blazing the local scene awareness trail. Plus, thank god we're now known for someone Rock 'N' Roll other than Christopher Cross. |
