 Peter Steele of Type O Negative This one is a classic! In our long list of "KISS Rocks The Garden" concerts, their 4/27/96 show resides in my top 10. It's wasn't the best attended event (one of our more disappointing), but I guarantee you the 2,000 in attendance agree with my assessment that this was a powerful performance. I HIGHLY recommend seeing Type O Negative ANY chance you get. Ok...on with why this is a "classic" encounter. My wife is a Massage Therapist. When Peter found out that was her answer to his, "So what do you do" question...well, you can probably figure what his next question was. Now most men would be intimidated watching their wife stroll off with Peter Steele for a private hour on board his tour bus. No problem here...I just hoped he's a good tipper (for the record, he was.) Now I am going on record as saying Angie is GOOD at what she does. She has actually worked on many bands prior to shows and was even hired by numerous members the San Antonio Texans when that CFL team called the Alamo City home. (Side bar- You know how you hear how Pro athletes are superstitious. IT'S TRUE! When the Texans went on their win streak after star Quarterback David Archer came back from injury, part of his routine was HE HAD TO COME TO GET HIS MASSAGE PRECISELY in the window following the final practice on the day before game day.) Her experience with athletes and people who over use a specific body parts due to physical labor is a strength with her services. Back to TON...The rest of our little group was kicking back awaiting set time. Pete and Angie return and he is in the mellow zone, singing her praises and how good his shoulder now feels. Before this all started Angie had wanted to ask Peter to autograph the Playgirl Peter had just appeared in with the same attire he wore the day he came into the world (guys don't ever let women tell you their gender doesn't enjoy a little harmless sophomoric titillation as well. Believe me this specific issue was a HUGE [pun intended] conversation piece for the ladies around our household for MONTHS!) However, after having interacted with Peter in a professional capacity, she now felt uncomfortable about asking for this favor. Being the good husband that I am, I realized this was an opportunity for me to do a good deed for my gal. So I did; explaining on her behalf. He found it charming as he had grown used to this new and then frequent request; so he did. All cool, all smiles, until... Examining the signature I found, "Ahhhh Pete, you signed this to Kevin." From his glassy-eyed, over-relaxed state he suddenly shot eyes-wide awake and said the only thing he could say, "Oh f*ck!" Some heavy duty apologies were offered, but in the end everyone had a good laugh about it, and I have one particular keepsake I NEVER expected to have, and one gut-buster story for bar time. |
