 Rammstein June 29, 2001, prior to "The Fire And The Fury" at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, may have been the site of the worst interview in my entire history for one simple reason...a language barrier. For this tour, German band Rammstein's management and record company had decided to send an interpreter on the road with the band in an effort to get them more "out there" to the fans. There I was sitting with this very mellow little spokesperson dude who just happened to be part of one of the world's most aggressive and literally explosive bands (god they love to use fire), and he couldn't understand a word I was saying. I'd speak, the translator would interpret, and we'd listen to the hiss of air awaiting his response. HE HAS SPOKEN...more hissing air, followed by the interpreters broken retort. Scintillating radio! It didn't help that the interpreter had misinterpreted my request to repeat both our words DIRECTLY into the mic, Maybe he just didn't want to waste listeners time being redundant, after all, he was saying the same thing twice, just in two different languages (not that anyone had a clue what the hell was being discussed in the slowest-motion interview in the entire history of radio.) If anyone was disappointed because I decided to bail and cut it short...I'm not sorry. Sometimes a gimmick that sounds good on paper, becomes in reality just becomes another opportunity to hear what hissing air sound like over 100,000 watts! |
