Pearl Jam closed out last month's Austin City Limits Festival with a mindblowing performance, and beforehand they did a taping for the long-running ACL television show for 320 lucky fans, with the aid of a string quartet and one Mr. Ben Harper. The episode is set to air on PBS this tomorrow night, Nov. 21st at 10pm

"I sometimes wonder how many more 'firsts' can there be, but I never dreamed I'd see the day that Pearl Jam would appear on the ACL stage, especially considering they seldom do TV," said Austin City Limits producer Terry Lickona. "This will go down as one of our all-time classic shows, and one of the best Pearl Jam performances ever captured. There are some musical and emotional highs that gave me goose bumps."

Pearl Jam on ACL setlist: Just Breathe, The End, The Fixer, Johnny Guitar, Amongst The Waves, Unthought Unknown, Army Reserve, Do The Evolution, Lukin, Red Mosquito (with Ben Harper), Inside Job, Porch

To get a taste of what you can expect, follow THIS LINK to watch their ACL performance of the song JUST BREATHE.

The inclusion of Kurt Cobain's image in Activision's hit video game, Band Hero, has drawn widespread criticism, including public outcries from his former Nirvana bandmates and his widow, Courtney Love.

A recent YouTube video has since confirmed the critics' worst fears, depicting Cobain and country legend Johnny Cash singing a duet of "YMCA" by the Village People. The videos spread quickly around the web before Activision pulled them, claiming breach of copyright.

"It's hard to watch an image of Kurt pantomiming other artists' music alongside cartoon characters . . . We feel he deserves better," former Nirvana members Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic said in a statement.

"While we were aware of Kurt's image being used with two Nirvana songs, we didn't know players have the ability to unlock the character," they added. "This feature allows the character to be used with any kind of song the player wants. We urge Activision to do the right thing in 're-locking' Kurt's character so that this won't continue in the future."

In giving her own two cents on the issue, Love has called the use of Cobain's likeness "vile," and has threatened to sue.

Multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated Papa Roach and multi-platinum, 2009 American Music Award nominee Shinedown announce co-headlining dates. Two of today's biggest bands in rock, each delivering #1 rock hits this year (Papa Roach's "Lifeline" and Shinedown's "Second Chance" and "Sound Of Madness") will kick off the tour December 5th in Highland Heights, KY. Tickets for Highland Heights, KY, Erie, PA and Binghamton, NY are available now and additional dates go on sale this weekend.

"We are stoked to be touring with Shinedown, we have a lot of love and respect for them. It's been a long time coming, be prepared, both bands are going to annihilate the stage," said Papa Roach frontman Jacoby Shaddix.

Known for their electrifying live shows, Papa Roach have been touring nonstop behind their new album and fifth studio recording, Metamorphosis, which debuted at #8 on The Billboard 200 chart earlier this year. Papa Roach is currently on tour with Australian sensation JET and fresh off the heels of their summer tour alongside Nickelback. Shaddix says:

"Playing shows every night is what we're built for. We make a club feel like an arena and we make an arena feel like a club." Indeed Hit Parader raves, "Papa Roach's live energy is like a pack of wild horses - unbridled and uncontainable."

Metamorphosis has already spawned the hits "Lifeline" and "I Almost Told You That I Loved You," with "Had Enough" hitting radio now. "Had Enough" and many other songs on Metamorphosis address the current social and economic themes prevalent today.

One of the most successful rock bands of the decade, Shinedown has amassed a staggering record of 10 consecutive top 5 rock radio hits over their 3 studio albums. The Jacksonville, Florida-based band's latest single, "If You Only Knew," is already #10 on the Active Rock charts and climbing, with the companion video in rotation at VH1 and Fuse. Last month, Shinedown performed the song on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live," and, later this month, the band will be attending the 2009 American Music Awards, where they've been nominated for "Favorite Alternative Rock Artist" alongside Kings Of Leon and Green Day. "If You Only Knew" follows the breakthrough success of "Second Chance," one of the biggest cross over hits of the year with nearly 2 million singles sold and going to #1 at Hot AC and top 5 at Top 40 after topping the Alternative, Active and Mainstream Rock charts. Both songs are featured on Shinedown's current album, The Sound Of Madness. Produced by multiple-Grammy Award winner Rob Cavallo, The Sound Of Madness debuted at #8 on The Billboard 200 chart upon release last summer and has since been RIAA-certified Gold, spawning 3 consecutive #1 rock singles ("Devour," "Second Chance" and "Sound Of Madness").

"We're really excited to combine forces with Papa Roach on these dates. Just like us, they bring it every night for their fans," says Shinedown frontman Brent Smith. "I guarantee you this...its gonna be LOUD!"

Launching on this tour, Papa Roach has partnered with WHY (World Hunger Year) to support local and national efforts to end hunger and poverty. The band will be auctioning off special VIP fan experiences via www.paparoach.com including meet and greets, an interview with the band, side-stage tickets, soundcheck access and much more - with all proceeds going to WHY. In addition to raising money, Papa Roach will build awareness from the stage along their tour stops and visit local food banks and homeless shelters to lend support. The statistics are staggering: 36.2 million Americans are hungry and every day almost 16,000 children from around the globe die from hunger-related causes. Shaddix explains, "We're proud to work with World Hunger Year to help those in need. We've been fortunate enough to have a voice and we want to use it by giving back. We encourage everyone to help out their local communities."

Shinedown will be donating a portion of the proceeds from the tour to the Center for Autism & Related Disabilities (CARD) at the University of Florida College of Medicine - Jacksonville. The hometown center works to educate and empower individuals and families through support, assistance and awareness within the community to optimize the potential of all individuals with autism and related disabilities. Rhino and Bright Midnight Archives unleash four inspired performances from The Doors' final tour with Live In New York. The latest addition to the band's acclaimed series of archival concert releases, this six-disc collection contains all four of The Doors' performances - in their entirety - recorded in 1970 at the Felt Forum in New York City.

The collection will be available as of today at all retail outlets, including www.thedoors.com and www.rhino.com, for suggested list price of $89.98 for the physical boxed set. A digital version featuring select highlights from all four Felt Forum shows will also be available at all digital retail outlets for $9.99. An exclusive stream of "Break On Through (To The Other Side)" from the second show on January 17, 1970 will premiere at spinner.com beginning this Thursday, August 27.

Recorded January 17 and 18, 1970 - just a few weeks before the release of Morrison Hotel - these concerts find Jim Morrison, John Densmore, Robby Krieger, and Ray Manzarek locked in tight as they deliver smoking takes on soon-to-be-classics from their forthcoming album, including "Roadhouse Blues," "Peace Frog," "Ship Of Fools," and "Maggie M'Gill." The shows also feature a number of driving blues covers, such as Bo Diddley's "Who Do You Love," Howlin' Wolf's "Little Red Rooster," and John Lee Hooker's "Crawling King Snake." "Those were the bluesy songs we always used to do," Krieger says. "We probably hadn't done them in years, but we resurrected them for these shows."

The year prior to these shows, The Doors became one of the first rock bands to play New York City's Madison Square Garden. When they returned in 1970, Densmore says they chose to play the Felt Forum, a smaller venue at the Garden. "It was more intimate, and you could feel the audience more," he says. "There was more interaction, and the acoustics were much better, because it was designed for music."

Manzarek hails these shows as a return to the group's early days, when they used to play a small Los Angeles club called the London Fog. "I mean, talk about going back to basics. We used to do four sets a night at the London Fog, and we only had a small block of songs written up to that time. So we would do other people's material. And in New York, it was like the same thing. We've got four shows to play here, two sets tonight, two sets tomorrow night. Let's play whatever we want! Let's just go!"

And go they did. Along with a mix of then-unheard new songs and old covers, the band also tapped into its 1967, self-titled debut, peppering the set lists with signature songs such as "Break On Through (To The Other Side)," "Soul Kitchen," "The End," and "Light My Fire," The Doors' first #1 hit.

For the final show of the Felt Forum stand, the band was joined onstage by two guests - The Lovin' Spoonful's John Sebastian (who played harmonica on the studio version of "Roadhouse Blues") and drummer Dallas Taylor, who'd played on Crosby, Stills & Nash's debut. Sebastian sat in for "Rock Me" and was joined by Taylor for "Going To N.Y. Blues" and "Maggie M'Gill."

Fans will be blown away by the crisp sound found on LIVE IN NEW YORK. All four shows were mixed and mastered by the band's longtime engineer, Bruce Botnick, who recorded a number of shows from The Doors' 1970 tour on multi-track tape for the Absolutely Live album. While most of the music contained on LIVE IN NEW YORK is unreleased, a few songs (and portions of songs) surfaced in 1970 on Absolutely Live and in 1997 on The Doors Box Set.

Sadly, these shows represent The Doors' final New York City performances with Morrison, who passed away July 3, 1971.

Rhino released 180-gram vinyl versions of all six Doors studio albums on September 15. Previously available only in 2007's The Doors Vinyl Box, original stereo mixes of The Doors, Strange Days, Waiting For The Sun, The Soft Parade, Morrison Hotel, and L.A. Woman will now be available individually at all vinyl retail outlets for a suggested list price of $24.98 each.

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry says estranged singer Steven Tyler's surprise guest appearance at his Joe Perry Project concert Tuesday night (Nov. 10) in New York "really didn't change anything in my mind" about the status of their band.

Tyler joined Perry and company for an encore rendition of Aerosmith's 'Walk This Way," before the song that "I want you to know that I'm not leaving Aerosmith."

Now, Perry tells Billboard.com that Tyler "never said he was leaving the band" but further explains that the singer "said he wanted two years off to do his other projects," which is where things become problematic.

"Aerosmith wants to work," says Perry, who Tweeted earlier in the week that the band was "positively looking for a new singer to work with." He adds, "the band's been playing together for 40 years. It's a really powerful rock band, and I don't want to see it just go to waste and I don't think any of the other guys do, either. We're gonna work and we're gonna do something -- I'm not exactly sure what yet, but the band's too good to let it sit around. We're not going to wait for Steven."

Perry says he's had one conference call during the past week with bandmates Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer, but they have not made any firm decisions about anything -- including working with another singer while Tyler is pursuing his outside endeavors. "We're waiting for things to kind of settle down, and then we'll figure out what we're gonna do. Anything is possible," the guitarist says.

Perry also says that Tyler's appearance at Irving Plaza on Tuesday caught him completely by surprise. Tyler, he says, appeared backstage just as the Project was taking its encore break. "He was really the last person I expected," Perry recalls, "and then I saw him. He said, 'How ya doin'? What's going on? What songs are you playing -- anything good or what?' I said, 'Well, we've got a couple more to go...You want to come and sit in with the band?' and he said 'Yeah' and...[chose] 'Walk This Way.'"

"I was really blown away that he came to the show," says Perry, "but he showed up and was really anxious to come and sit in and play, so I figured, what the hell? He's been my partner for 40 years, and I figured I'd let him have some fun and...give the fans an extra treat."

As for spreading Internet rumors about Tyler's health, Perry says that the singer "came and went so fast I didn't even get a chance to check him out that much...We read the Tweets and the different bits of gossip here and there, but that's stuff you need to talk to Steven about."

Perry says the Project, meanwhile, will be on the road throughout the month and then plan to resume touring in late January, though he expects to be speaking to the other Aerosmith members in the near future about their potential plans. -billboard.com

Futuristic metallists Powerman 5000 have been plotting their next move for the

past few years, and their latest step towards a global takeover is upon us, in the

form of 'Somewhere on the Other Side of Nowhere.' The album dropped from the

solar system on October 6th (via Mighty Loud!/Fontana), and as judged by such

song titles as "Super Villain," "V is for Vampire," "Horror Show," and "Get your

Bones," 'Somewhere on the Other Side of Nowhere' is bound to be another gnarly

slice of PM5K.

"We made this record with a clear vision and a purpose," explains frontman,

Spider. "We wanted to reclaim a sound we created and represent certain influences

as only a band like Powerman 5000 can. While writing, we would watch

'Godzilla' or 'Ultraman' films to ensure the sonics were on point. We knew that

this record needed to sound like the footsteps of a giant robot!"

"On the surface, this album is a big fun electro metal romp...though there are

bigger concepts hidden within. A quote from HG Wells sums it up best, he said,

'Man is the unnatural animal, the rebel child of nature.' That is an ongoing theme

in the songs, our inability to find a place in our own world. I couldn't be happier

with the results. I finally feel like we have made a record that not only is exactly

wanted we wanted it to be, but also a record that the fans are going to love!"

Originally formed in 1991, PM5K has been led from the beginning by Spider (who

also goes by the nom de plum "Spider One"). In the process, the group has built a

large and loyal fanbase, on the strength of such hit albums as 'Tonight the Stars

Revolt!' and 'Transform' (all of which landed in side the top 30 of the Billboard

Album Charts), as well as the radio favorites "Supernova Goes Pop," "Nobody's

Real," and "When Worlds Collide." Spider and company plan on hitting the road

hard in support of their seventh release overall - get prepared for a total assault of

the senses!

'Somewhere on the Other Side of Nowhere' Track Listing:

Intelligent Creatures

Show Me What You've Got

Super Villain

V Is For Vampire

Do Your Thing

Somewhere On The Other Side Of Nowhere

Time Bomb

Get Your Bones

Two songs -- "Scream With Me" and "Heard It All Before" -- from the forthcoming self-titled album from MUDVAYNE are available for streaming below. Reportedly the first album to ever use blacklight-reactive ink (making it only visible under a black light), the CD's cover image was created by world-renowned tattoo king Paul Booth.

Every bit of art and text in the packaging of the record will be printed on ink that can only be seen under a black light.

Commented Booth: "This project has been absolutely killer to work on! The whole black light concept was totally experimental and quite the challenge, so of course, as an artist, I was drawn to it like a moth to a bugzapper."

He added, "I am happy to see bands focusing more energy on their album art... something I thought the Internet had killed. Hailz to MUDVAYNE and everyone at the label for going the extra mile!"

The album will be available in the following formats:

***1. Super Deluxe - "Limited-edition" run of only 1,000 copies which will be sold direct to the consumer from the band's site. Pre-order it at Mudvayne.com starting next Tuesday, November 10 and receive the digital album two weeks before release!

It contains:

a. The deluxe version of the album
b. The album on glow-in-the-dark vinyl (also blacklight-reactive)
c. A 24-inch blacklight
d. A 24x24 poster designed by Paul Booth in blacklight-reactive ink
e. An 8x8 blacklight-reactive decal designed by Paul Booth

***2. Deluxe - "Limited-edition" first run of 100,000 copies. Pre-order it at Mudvayne.com starting Tuesday, November 24 and receive the digital album two weeks before release!

It contains:

a. The album in jewel case
b. A LED, keychain-sized blacklight
c. Special blacklight-reactive packaging designed by Paul Booth

***3. Vinyl

a. Glow-in-the-dark vinyl (also blacklight-reactive)
b. Blacklight-reactive art designed by Paul Booth

***4. Jewel Case

a. Blacklight-reactive art designed by Paul Booth

Due on December 22 via Epic, "Mudvayne" has been described by drummer Matt McDonough as "the best" CD "the band has recorded since our second album, 'The End Of All Things to Come'." The album was produced by Dave Fortman's (SLIPKNOT, EVANESCENCE) right-hand man, Jeremy Parker, and is "a little more retro for MUDVAYNE" from a songwriting point of view, according to singer Chad Gray. "We've been kind of making this natural progression, and I think for this one, we just sort of naturally regressed," he told Noisecreep. "We took the smarter songwriting guys that we've become and mixed it with the not-smart songwriting guys that we were ... I mean, we used to just take 20 parts, cram it together, and call it a song. Over time, playing in a band, you kind of know what to expect. It doesn't really make it easier, but you kind of have this thing in your head that you kind of know where you're going. You can see the light at the end of the tunnel before entering the tunnel. It's faint, and dim, but it's there."

MUDVAYNE's fourth studio album, "The New Game", has sold more than 200,000 copies in the United States since it came out in November 2008, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The CD shifted 48,000 units in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 15 on The Billboard 200 chart.

A documentary on Ozzy Osbourne titled Wreckage of My Past is in the post-production phase and should be out soon.

The film will be the first release from Jacko Productions, a company started by Ozzy's son Jack. Jack and Ozzy's wife, Sharon, are the film's executive producers.

"I'm trying to paint a realistic picture of who my father is," Jack told Rolling Stone. "I think The Osbournes, to a degree, tarnished the public's perception of my dad as a bit of a senile, funny, bumbling guy. Yeah, my dad can be that guy, but it's not him."

"My dad's not an idiot," Jack continued. "He's nothing short of a genius, in my opinion. He does have huge flaws, and we're trying to really paint an honest picture of that."

The documentary was directed by Mike Piscitelli and was written and produced by Jordan Tappis.

The project has been filming since January 2008 and has collected interviews with all the members of Ozzy's first band Black Sabbath, along with the members of Ozzy's solo bands.

"The hard thing is getting people to be honest and not have it be a fluff piece, because that's not what we're trying to do," Jack concluded.

Wreckage of My Past is due out in theaters in early 2010. Watch a glimpse of the film below.

Before Aerosmith's recent show at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Steven Tyler said he will spend 2010 working on solo projects. "I don't know what I'm doing yet, but it's definitely going to be something Steven Tyler: working on the brand of myself - Brand Tyler," he told Classic Rock magazine. He also cryptically stated, "Once the band hit the final note and I walk off stage - then I'll tell you the whole story."

The magazine also said that off stage there appears to be some friction within the band, and that no one sees Tyler until they go on stage as his dressing room is located far away from the rest of the group. Aerosmith will reportedly meet over the next couple of weeks to discuss future plans, possibly without Tyler.

"I'm not sure how good that would look, it would largely depend on who we could get and who would want to do it. That's big shoes to fill," guitarist Brad Whitford told Classic Rock, referring to the idea of the group performing with a different singer. "Nobody could replace Steven or imitate him - he's one of a kind. But if somebody was willing to do it and the chemistry was right, why not?"

Jack White has turned down the chance to appear on Slash's debut solo album, according to the former Guns N' Roses guitarist.

Slash is due to release 'Slash & Friends' in early 2010, and the album reportedly features a host of guest musicians, including the likes of Flea, Dave Grohl and Alice Cooper.

However, the one artist that Slash says he really wanted to appear was Jack White - however, The White Stripes mainman was apparently reluctant to sing on the record.

"I wanted to get Jack White to sing on something, but he didn't want to sing," Slash told Musicradar.com. "He said I'll play drums, I'll play guitar, but I don't wanna sing. He was one guy that I wanted to work with. Pretty much everyone else that I went after I managed to get."

Writing on his Twitter.com/Slashhudson account, the guitarist said he hopes to have the album completely finished by the end of November. -nme.com

Slipknot singer Corey Taylor has finally confirmed rumors that he tried out for Velvet Revolver's vacant lead singer slot, telling Altitude TV, "I had a meeting with those guys, we did some demos together, and it just didn't work -- for whatever reason." Since Scott Weiland's departure from Velvet Revolver in April 2008, everyone from Lenny Kravitz to Sebastian Bach to Chris Cornell to obscure Canadian singers have been rumored to  the permanent fill-in for VR, but Taylor is among the first to reveal that he actually tried out for the job.

"It was just really cool. It was one of those things where it's like I could have got to jam with legends, man, in my opinion," Taylor said, adding that he's still on good terms with the band. Slash had previously said in passing that Taylor had worked with VR, and while it seemed like Taylor might take over as lead vocalist, the band decided against it, Blabbermouth writes.

As Rolling Stone previously reported, even though Slash is currently hard at work at his own solo album, he's still devoted to the singer search. "We (VR) know the right guy is out there somewhere," Slash wrote in a MySpace post in August 2009. "It's possible somebody could turn up before I do my tour and we could start working on new material sooner than later, in a perfect world." -rollingstone.com

Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland has told Spin magazine that the band will release a new album in early 2010. In a new interview on his current solo tour, Weiland revealed that guitarist Dean DeLeo and bassist Robert DeLeo have begun writing music, explaining, "Those guys have already been writing the instrumental music ... with STP, Robert, and Dean write the chords and riffs and then they bring stuff to me." Asked if he had heard any finished songs yet, Weiland added, "No, except for the stuff we jammed at sound check. And some of that was really cool ... So when I'm finished doing my thing, I'll hear what kind of ideas they have. And in the spring we'll be ready to record."

Weiland said that the album, STP's sixth studio effort and first since 2001's "Shangri-La-Dee-Da", will arrive early next year.

He did not address a recent lawsuit filed against him and STP drummer Eric Kretz by the band's label, Atlantic Records, for breach of contract, nor did he reiterate his recently stated desire to record outside the major label system.

STP reunited last year for a six-month tour that ended in late October. Since then Weiland has been touring behind his second solo album, "Happy In Galoshes", which came out in November.  -ultimate-guitar.com

Foo Fighters taped an episode of the VH1 performance program Storytellers last Wednesday night (October 28th) at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, California, according to FMQB. The show will premiere on Friday, November 27th at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT. The hour-long, 13-song performance will feature a collection of the band's biggest hits, as well as the new track "Wheels," along with stories behind the tunes and insights from the band members into what inspired the music.

According to Reuters, the show closes with the band's signature track, "Everlong," about which frontman Dave Grohl says, "I honestly think that if it weren't for this song we probably wouldn't still be here because it opened up so many doors for us, melodically, dynamically."

Being in the Foo Fighters all these years has opened many musical doors for its members, as drummer Taylor Hawkins told us:] "We call it the Foo Fighters rock and roll fantasy camp, 'cause after Dave has been doing the thing with John Paul Jones, and I've done things with Queen, got to do a Dennis Wilson thing, got to jam with (Yes bassist) Chris Squire, Rush, it's like we just get to all kind of all fulfill a lot of our sort of rock and roll fantasies playing with these people, you know. And it's really amazing and really cool."
The band showed a webcast concert from its Los Angeles recording and rehearsal studio via Facebook on Friday night (October 30th).

Foo Fighters releases its first greatest hits collection on Tuesday (November 3rd). The set features the new songs "Wheels" and "Word Forward." -therockradio.com

When tracks from Chris Cornell's third solo album, Scream, started making the rounds last year, fans were confused.  The producer was Timbaland?  Electric R&B grooves?  And is that freakin' Justin Timberlake on backing vocals? AN 'N SYNC DUDE ON A RECORD BY THE GUY FROM SOUNDGARDEN?!?  The only thing missing was Kayne grabbing the mic halfway through a song.

Give Cornell credit for trying to shake up his solo career with a bold statement.  But the bottom line is that Scream did not work.  Outside of a kind review from Entertainment Weekly (they gave it a B+), the album got savaged by critics and fans.  It was a Grunge God/ Timbaland Fail.

But if you listened to Scream carefully, there was some good stuff underneath all the overproduction and R&B beats.  Michael Friedman, a Canadian ex-pat working in LA in the licensing and placement of music in films and TV, certainly thought so.

"I heard some 'Black Hole Sun' greatness deep within some of the songs," he told me, "I also got to know Chris as a friend.  I ended up calling Jordan Zadorozny [of the Canadian indie band Blinker the Star and co-writer of song with Courtney Love and friend of Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham]."  I flew him down to LA and had him listen to some of the tracks in hopes that he could remix them somehow."

The first track to emerge from this de-Timbalanding of Scream is "Never Far Away."  In its original form, a funky mess obscurs what was actually a pretty good Soundgarden-esque mid-tempo rocker.  Jordan peeled back all the beats and turned up whatever guitar was there.  The result is a proper Chris Cornell song.

Through a roundabout series of connections, I managed to get Michael on the phone yesterday.  And with Chris Cornell's permission, he sent me this unreleased re-imagined, de-cluttered and grunged-up version of "Never Far Away." (listen to it

It has been more than a week since a 20-year-old college student called her friends at a Metallica concert to say she was outside the arena and would find her own way home. Now the famed heavy-metal rockers are participating in the search for her, adding $50,000 to the reward for information leading to her whereabouts.

While investigators attempt to discover what happened to a young woman described as open, beautiful, artistic and giving, Morgan Harrington's parents, Dan and Gil Harrington, have been keeping a high public profile, trying to focus attention on the disappearance.

"One word that comes to mind when you think of Morgan is 'shiny,' " Morgan's mother, Gil Harrington told TODAY's Amy Robach during a recent interview. "She was beautiful and she was beautiful inside, too. She radiated life."

Dutiful daughter
Young adults sometimes disappear intentionally, but the Harringtons were uncommonly close to their daughter. A student at Virginia Tech, about 35 miles from her parents, she talked to her father every day and trusted him with her computer passwords and the key to her apartment. She also spoke with her mother daily and frequently returned home to visit.

On Saturday, Oct. 17, Morgan Harrington spent the day at home planning with her mother what she was going to wear at the Metallica concert she planned to attend at the University of Virginia.

Such days were the norm for the family, Gil (pronounced "Jill") Harrington told Robach.

"It was a regular day for us: got up, made tea, had coffee, chatted some, showed the outfits, showed me how she was going to do her make-up," the mother recalled.

Morgan went with friends to the concert. Sometime between 8:30 and 9 p.m., she called her friends to say she had gone to the restroom and ended up outside John Paul Jones Arena on the University of Virgina campus in Charlottesville. She told them she wasn't allowed back in and would find another way home.

The next day, her phone and purse were found in a parking lot near the arena. Morgan, who never went anywhere without her cell phone, hasn't been seen since.

"We have a purse and we have a cell phone. We have a missing girl," Lt. Joe Rader of the Virginia State Police, told reporters last week. "We do not know whether  if she is alive or has met some ill fate."

'Let Morgan go'
Gil Harrington said her daughter normally wouldn't try to get home from a big event on her own, but added: "Kids are impulsive, especially in that excitement. Perhaps she knew who she could get a ride with. We don't know. We wish we did know."

Her parents reported her missing the next day and local and state police along with the FBI have been conducting the search for the 5-foot-6, 120-pound blonde with blue eyes.

"She's really very a sweet person, kind of an innocent individual who probably is quite trusting," Dan Harrington told Robach. "She's quite artistic, loves to read, and, really, over the last six months, Gil and Morgan and I had just a phenomenal relationship. She goes to school only 35 miles from here. We've been able to have daily contact with her. She's a wonderful person."

The Harringtons also have a 22-year-old son who told his mother that if Morgan were abducted, whoever took her would have no choice but to keep her alive.

"He said, 'Morgan has a purpose in this world, and Morgan is so special that whoever took her is going to keep her around for a while,' " Gil Harrington told Robach. Then, addressing the presumed abductor, she added, "So please let Morgan go. No questions asked. Let her come home to us."

Robach asked Gil Harrington what she would say to her daughter if Morgan was listening.

Signing her words in American Sign Language, the mother looked in the camera and said, "Morgan, we are trying to shine our heart to you as a beacon to come through wherever you are. Come back home."

Boosted by the $50,000 pledge from Metallica, there is a $150,000 reward for information that helps find Morgan Harrington. Police ask anyone with information to call 434-352-3467. -today.msnbc.com

When musicians Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh announced that they would be appearing as part of the Cypress Hill Smokeout Festival (which began on Saturday,) fans were heady with anticipation, especially when Gaugh referred to the concert as the "reunion" of Sublime. Although the band lost its original lead singer, Bradley Nowell to a drug overdose in 1996, surviving members Wilson and Gaugh have continued to perform - they even created the Long Beach Dub Allstars as a tribute to their fallen brother, but have never resuscitated the Sublime moniker until recently, when they recruited newcomer Rome Ramirez as their new lead vocalist.

The group played a small venue with Ramirez prior to this weekend's Smokeout gig, where Gaugh made the official announcement that Sublime had returned. Now comes news from the estate of Bradley Nowell (represented by attorneys for Nowell's family,) that if the trio continue to bill themselves as Sublime, they will be sued. What's even more disturbing is that the estate posted this statement on the official Sublime Myspace page: "Prior to his untimely passing, both Bud and Eric acknowledged that Brad Nowell was the sole owner of the name Sublime. It was Brad's expressed intention that no one use the name Sublime in any group that did not include him, and Brad even registered the trademark 'Sublime' under his own name."

The statement goes on to say, "We wholeheartedly supported Bud, Eric and the many talented members of the Sublime posse that formed the Long Beach Dub All-Stars, soon after Brad's death, to honor him through their original recordings, live performances and Sublime music until they disbanded in 2001. But, out of respect for Brad's wishes, we have always refused to endorse any group performing as 'Sublime,' and now with great reluctance feel compelled to take the appropriate legal action to protect Brad's legacy." Billboard, which first reported this story has contacted representatives for Wilson, Gaugh, and Ramirez for their reaction to the pending litigation, but so far have received no response. -examiner.com

Alt-metal giants Faith No More recently reunited after an 11-year silence for a comeback jaunt. The appropriately titled Second Coming tour, which has been going on for the last four months, has taken them to almost every corner of the world. Notably absent? North American dates. The closest they were to get to the United States was Mexico, where they're scheduled to play three dates in mid-November. That is about to change. Today bassist Billy Gould released this statement to his Twitter account: "Tweet THIS: In response to all of our concerned US brethren...YES...we are now actively planning US dates." No further information is available at this time.

Faith No More rocketed to fame off the strength of their highly successful third album, 1989's The Real Thing, which spawned such singles as the now-classic "Epic." They're still hailed as one of the better bands to come out of the funk-metal scene of the '80s and '90s. Even though the band officially broke up in 1998, its members have largely stayed busy over the years, with singer Mike Patton playing in Mr. Bungle, Fantômas, Peeping Tom and others; keyboardist Roddy Bottum having minor success with Imperial Teen; drummer Mike Bordin working with Ozzy Ozbourne and Alice in Chains' Jerry Cantrell; and Gould working on various lower-profile metal projects. There are no plans for an album yet. Let's take this one step at a time. -prefixmag.com

It seems Courtney Love's money troubles aren't ending anytime soon. A Los Angeles judge has ordered the Hole frontwoman to pay $3,058.48 to Elite Maids.

The housecleaning service clamed Love didn't pay for the work done in her home and filed the lawsuit in February. Love was scheduled to appear in court last Thursday but her absence caused the judge to rule against her by default.

The news comes hot on the heels of news that Love allegedly owes over $300,000 in unpaid taxes. Add that to an American Express lawsuit for unpaid charges and a libel lawsuit filed by a clothing designer, and it's safe to say Courtney's going to be taken to the cleaners.

On a small positive note, UK's The Sun reports that Love is finishing up her long-awaited album, 'Nobody's Daughter,' and should have a single out in January, 2010. -spinner.com

Los Angeles metallers Five Finger Death Punch released their sophomore album, "War Is The Answer", in the U.S. on September 22 via Prospect Park Records. The CD was produced by the band and Kevin Churko (Ozzy Osbourne, In This Moment), and was mixed by Randy Staub (Metallica, Mötley Crüe, Nickelback). According to a press release, "the record evolves the band's already mature sound, ranging from the undeniable melodies in 'Hard to See' to the brutally nihilistic 'Burn It Down' -- destined to please fans both new and old."

War Is The Answer" track listing:

01. Dying Breed
02. Hard To See
03. Bulletproof

04. No One Gets Left Behind
05. Crossing Over
06. Burn It Down
07. Far From Home
08. Falling In Hate
09. My Own Hell
10. Walk Away
11. Canto 34
12. Bad Company (Bad Company cover)
13. War Is The Answer

Five Finger Death Punch's new single, is "Hard To See. Guitarist Zoltan Bathory recently stated about the track, "It's about seemingly irresolvable differences. It's valid in just about any setting: politics, religion, relationships... Everything is 'only an opinion' based on limited information, yet people sometimes get attached to their point of views to the extreme...in fact, to the point they would launch wars over them."

Regarding the new CD, Bathory stated, "In terms of the overall style, I would say that we've continued the journey we started on the first album, so there's a healthy balance of melody and aggression, and as always we concentrated on writing strong metal songs in the traditional sense. There's some epic moments on the record, and there's some straight-up home-wreckers, too. All I can say is, those who liked our first album are going to Love this one!"

War is the Answer follows up its 2007 debut, "The Way Of The Fist", which has sold 343,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Alice in Chains guitarist/vocalist Jerry Cantrell and Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian have joined forces to create a new rock bar and performance space in Las Vegas. They plan to launch the venue, Dead Man's Hand, in November.

The bar will feature none of the trendy décor, snobby attitude and outlandish prices so prevalent in Vegas. Instead, Dead Man's Hand will favor grit over glitz, providing customers great music, cool atmosphere and affordable drinks all year long.

"We want this to be a place that we would want to hang out in," Ian says. "There's a huge segment of the music audience that likes to go out but doesn't want to go to places that only play Lil Wayne and Lady Gaga and charge $750 for a bottle of vodka. We want to be the opposite of that."

"I always wanted to have a cool joint with some friends that would be a great place to go at night," adds Cantrell, "It's close to Los Angeles, and a lot of cool bands and people hit Vegas. We wanted to make a fun place for everybody to hang."

Cantrell came up with the name Dead Man's Hand, and as soon as he mentioned it to Ian, the guitarist was sold. The two logos for the club -- a skeleton's hand holding the dead man's poker hand atop a flaming Ace of Spades, and a skull-embossed Ace of Spades atop the dead man's hand -- were designed by award-winning artist Shepard Fairey from Obey. "Scott and I are both into poker, and the dead man's hand -- two aces and two eights -- was the hand Wild Bill Hickok was supposedly holding when he was shot," Cantrell says. "And we both really like the show 'Deadwood,' so it seemed like a cool name."

Dead Man's Hand will feature a long, semicircle-shaped bar that seats 30, a stage, and a raised back area featuring booths directly across from the stage. Total capacity is about 200. The bar will showcase DJs and live music, with a top-notch PA, state-of-the art lighting system and a backline donated by Ian and Cantrell's respective gear companies.

"We'd like to have a couple of house bands, maybe once or twice a month," Cantrell says. "And we'll have some cool bands come in and play. "We're planning to leave a bunch of gear on the stage so it's functional for anybody that wants to just get up and go for it."

"We're also putting together the Dead Man's Band, which will be Jerry and I and probably some other sub-partners who are also in well-known bands," adds Ian. "Obviously, we won't play once a week or anything because of our schedules, but when we're all around we'll get up and jam out a bunch of covers."

The sub-partners for Dead Man's Hand will be announced in the weeks ahead. The third equal partner in Dead Man's Hand is Michael Politz, owner of Food and Beverage magazine. "Jerry and I have talked for years about having a bar, and Michael really helped make it possible," Ian says. "He's very tied into the Vegas scene and was very excited about pitching this idea around. It just feels like all the planets finally aligned."

The bar will offer several signature drinks, including the Dead Man's Hand (whisky and spicy ginger ale) and, of course the Black Tooth Grin (Crown Royal with a splash of Coca-Cola), the late-guitar legend Dimebag Darrell's beverage of choice.

"We want to tie that into a drink special," Ian says. "So, every night at midnight or something, we'll crank 'Ace of Spades' by Motorhead and everyone HAS to do a shot."

The venue's first event will be a November 7th party for Bluff Magazine. The party coincides with the World Series of Poker final table on November 9th.

Dead Man's Hand will be located at 3525 W. Russell Road Las Vegas NV (I-15 exit Russell Road, one block west) right next to the Vegas Alliance strip club Crazy Horse III in a complex called The Playground. For more info call 702-673-1700 or email info@deadmanshand.com-metalunderground.com

The Weezer iTunes Pass launched yesterday on the iTunes Store. The iTunes Pass gives fans access to new and exclusive music, video, remixes, art and other content from their favorite artists over a set period of time, delivered to their iTunes library as soon as they're available.

Fans who purchase the WEEZER iTunes Pass ($19.99) will receive a variety of content beginning on October 13th with a cover of The Clash's "Should I Stay Or Should I Go" and continuing in weekly installments until November 24th. The WEEZER iTunes Pass includes a deluxe version of the band's new album Raditude plus exclusive additional tracks, live recordings, remixes, behind-the-scenes video footage and the music video for single "(If You're Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To."

Raditude appears on the heels of 2008's The Red Album. This new offering sees the band trying a brand-new approach, choosing to collaborate with a wide variety of musicians, songwriters and producers. The result of this collaborative effort is a collection of songs that amplifies WEEZER's musical trademarks- deep-digging pop hooks and raucous rock riffs- while at the same time breaking new ground for the band. Raditude features appearances by Lil' Wayne, Jermaine Dupri and even a host of traditional Indian musicians. Within these 10 songs lie boundless possibilities and ceaseless excitement, proof that WEEZER remains a band that defies easy summations and can never be taken for granted, a band who has grown as they've opened their horizons.

From the subtly ironic but club-worthy "Can't Stop Partying," to the gleefully lascivious classic arena-rocker "The Girl Got Hot," to the sleek electro groove of "I'm Your Daddy," to the slow-building, anthemic "Love is the Answer" and the clanking, Motown-flavored"(If You're Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To," Raditude, like WEEZER, is full of thrilling surprises. As Cuomo says, "It sounds like a roomful of people having a great time." -antimusic.com

Rockers Kings of Leon are at war over royalty payments. Bassist Jared Followill has accused his brother Caleb of attempting to cash in on the band's next album.

The Sex On Fire hitmakers scored a massive international hit with their last record, Only By The Night, which became one of the highest-selling albums of 2008.

But the success has fueled the notoriously volatile relationship between the family band, and Jared Followill admits their latest fight is over song-writing credits for their upcoming fifth album.

He says, "We started seriously writing the songs when we got back home from tour. I got a call from Caleb going, 'I'm sitting here writing the next album by myself.' And we're like, 'Oh no, you're not!'

"We ended up going to his house so that when the record comes out he can't go, 'Dude, I'm getting 70 percent of this s***.'"

While guitarist Matthew adds, "We basically go to his house for the royalties."

Jared admits he has always found it difficult working with his brother, especially when they first formed the band: "Caleb was really weird when we first started. Everything that I thought was charming about us, he wanted us to lie about.

"For me, it's hard even having an opinion on this band. If I wasn't involved, I can't imagine liking us a lot, just because I only control 25 percent of it. In every song there's something I wish I could change. Each one of us are like that, though."

Meanwhile, Kings Of Leon are to release a DVD of their London O2 Arena gigs, which took place in June this year.

The band will release 'Kings Of Leon: Live At The O2 London, England' on November 9, with a Blu-Ray version coming out on November 23.

Lick Library, one of the world's biggest suppliers of guitar tuition DVDs, has just released a comprehensive series of "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott guitar tuition DVDs. These are essential for metal guitar players of all standards.

Best known as a founding member of PANTERA and DAMAGEPLAN, Dimebag was considered one of the most influential guitarists in modern metal. He was renowned for his ferocity of style as well as his creative riffs, licks and hard-hitting solos that left fans begging for more.

"Learn to Play Pantera" is taught by internationally renowned guitarist and tutor Andy James. This double DVD set unlocks the secrets of five classic Dimeball Darrrell tracks in three hours of guitar lessons broken down into clearly explained sections. Tracks include "Cowboys from Hell", "Cemetery Gates", "Mouth For War", "Rise" and "This Love". Each song is split up into Intro, Verse, Chorus and includes detailed guitar solos and lead fills. It gives you plenty of time to understand what Andy is teaching as he shows you how to play different styles of metal including heavy rhythm parts and fast guitar solos at slow, medium and normal tempos.

"Learn to Play Dimebag Darrell, The Solos" is also taught by Andy James. It teaches you note for note the solos from five classic PANTERA tracks: "Cowboys from Hell", "Cemetery Gates", "Mouth For War", "A New Level" and "Walk". This matchless style of guitar lesson shows solos broken down into manageable chunks and demonstrates alternate, hybrid and tremolo picking, string skipping, tapping octave shapes and much more. Production is superb, with multiple camera shots so you see both the left and right hand at the same time.

"Quick Licks in the style of Dimebag Darrell" is again presented by Andy James. This DVD shows you how to play over 25 killer metal licks which take in some of the best ideas used by Dimebag Darrell. Aimed at the intermediate to advanced guitar player this guitar tuition DVD covers a host of tips and techniques of differing degrees of difficulty. In addition, backing tracks are included for you to practice playing the licks with. Your speed of progress is up to you, as you steer through the DVD using the chapter points placed at key places.

"Guitar Techniques in the style of Dimebag Darrell" is presented by Danny Gill, a former Joe Satriani pupil. Danny uses a clear and patient manner to look closely at how to play rhythm guitar and solos. He explains in small steps, time signatures, syncopated and staccato techniques, rhythm patterns, and a wide range of phrasing ideas. There is for true metal devotees an important lesson on de-tuning, plus the most amazing section detailing what would surely be Dimebag Darrell's top ten favorite wacky noises such as the "horse," "mosquito," "elephant," flanger and ring modulator FX (without using an FX pedal) and much more.

All these Dimebag Darrell products are available to purchase through www.licklibrary.com along with over 20,000 other guitar-tuition products. -metalunderground.com

Former PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott has revealed that he and his HELLYEAH bandmates have already recorded about half of their next album. Vinnie promises that the work they've done so far on the record is "great," and says fans should expect an album by March or April, with a tour to follow.

Paul did take a little time off recently, flying to Las Vegas to take in the "Slash & Friends" concert at The Mirage casino on Friday, October 2. Then earlier this week, he was scheduled to fly to Austin to prepare to open the latest in his Chicas Bonitas chain of strip clubs. On Friday, he'll head down to Cabo San Lucas to perform this weekend at Sammy Hagar's annual birthday party. As soon as that's done, he says it's back home to Dallas to get back to work on HELLYEAH.

The hard rock "supergroup," which also features MUDVAYNE singer Chad Gray and guitarist Greg Tribbett, NOTHINGFACE axeman Tom Maxwell and DAMAGEPLAN bass player Bob "Zilla" Kakaha, are currently free agents after issuing their 2007 debut through Epic Records. Abbott explained to DallasObserver.com, "We had a one-disc deal with Epic, and they're practically begging us to come back. We sold nearly 500,000 records for them, which is practically unheard of these days. That's like going platinum 10 years ago."

Abbott, who bounced back with HELLYEAH from the devastating 2004 murder of his brother and bandmate "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, said about the band, "The guys from HELLYEAH and the incredible music we've created have brought me back to what I love . . . The vibe is positive with a kick-your-ass attitude."

HELLYEAH's self-titled debut has sold more than 350,000 copies since arriving in April 2007. -Blabbermouth.net

Evanescence vocalist Amy Lee took to the band's Myspace this week to update fans on the band's new album and answer fan questions. Here is what she had to say:

I've been sitting here reading through so many of these questions and comments... trying to find one I haven't answered and want to... I guess I just want to say thanks for making me feel good. Ha. It's really nice to know so many of you miss the music and want to know when you'll hear it again. I've gotten to the point where I'm working on it almost every day (night I should say). I'm in love with it. Enough to fight for it. Enough to reopen the door to a world of chaos even though it scares me. I don't want to give away too much about what it will sound like, because so much will change before the end, but its... not what you would expect. Its definitely not happy married music, but its not like I'm dying the whole time either. It's dark, sarcastic, fun, strange, familiar and very different at the same time. It makes me feel alive and I wish I could show you right now. If you were here, at my house, I would pour you a drink and we would turn it up really loud and rock out to it, and I know you would love it. Thank you everyone who has said their lives were touched by the music. It touches my life too, and so do you, in many ways.

Somebody asked how it made me feel when someone tells me the music changed their life. It makes me feel like I'm not crazy. It feels wonderful. Also somebody asked why I talk about blood so much, complete with quite a few lyric quotes. It made me laugh. I promise to offer slightly less blood on the next album. Slightly.

Last but not least, I often get asked about band members, the whole "is it a band, is it solo, etc" (understandably! There have been quite a few). Everyone who has ever been a part of Evanescence is a part of its story, a part of its soul. From day 1 it has been a collaborative effort and different people have contributed over the years. But it is more than just people. It's something that has taken on its own life, it has grown, changed and become more interesting, more soulful, more honest than a perfect image will allow. The passion is what makes it live on, the obsessive focus on straight up, head first, love for the music. That is my band. And against all obstacles I'm sticking to it. -antimusic.com

Chester Bennington, lead singer for multi-platinum, two-time Grammy-winning rock band Linkin Park, has put the finishing touches on Out Of Ashes, the debut album from his new band dead By Sunrise. The album is tentatively scheduled for a fall release through Warner Bros. Records.

The band, which is Bennington on vocals, guitarists Ryan Shuck and Amir Derakh (from Orgy/Julien-K), bassist Brandon Belsky, drummer Elias Anda (also from Julien-K), and keyboardist Anthony Valcic, recorded Out Of Ashes in Los Angeles with producer Howard Benson (Motorhead, My Chemical Romance).

The songs on Out Of Ashes began to take shape during some downtime Linkin Park had before the band began recording their double-platinum 2007 album Minutes To Midnight. "I came up with a few songs that felt and sounded really good, but I knew they weren't right stylistically for Linkin Park," Bennington says. "They were darker and moodier than anything I'd come up with for the band. So I decided to work on them on my own rather than turn them over and have them transformed into Linkin Park tracks."

Bennington says that the music he wrote for Dead By Sunrise is darker, sexier, and more personal than anything he's done before. "It's got me all over it," he says. "This is the music I hear in my head." Indeed the creative freedom that Bennington felt making Out Of Ashes is evident on songs like "Crawl Back In," "Let Down," and "Walking In Circles."

"There are no hip-hop influences at all on this record, which is obviously a big difference," he says. "Also, the amount of vocal layering and use of harmony really showcase my voice in a new way. I was involved in the entire process of making the record, including the programming and the production, which was not only a great educational experience, it was very empowering. I'm really excited that the album is finally going to see the light of day!"

Bennington has been busy as of late, having spent the past 18 months touring with Linkin Park in support of Minutes To Midnight, which has sold more than six million copies worldwide since its release in spring of 2007. One of the most successful rock bands to emerge this decade, Linkin Park has sold more than 45 million albums worldwide. They've scored a remarkable string of chart-topping hit singles, a pair of Grammy wins, and earned an international fan base whose members number in the millions.

"Beautiful And Strange", a brand new song from MUDVAYNE, is available for streaming on the band's MySpace page. The song will appear on the group's new self-titled album, which is due on December 22 via Epic. The artwork for the CD will be printed entirely in blacklight-reactive ink (see video below), making it only visible under a black light (a source of light whose wavelengths are primarily in the ultraviolet).

"Mudvayne" has been described by drummer Matt McDonough as "the best" CD "the band has recorded since our second album, 'The End Of All Things to Come'." The effort will be released in three different formats -- a standard jewel case edition, a deluxe version packaged with a black light and a super deluxe edition that features a larger black light, a special edition blacklight-reactive poster and more.

MUDVAYNE's forthcoming album was produced by Dave Fortman's (SLIPKNOT, EVANESCENCE) right-hand man, Jeremy Parker, and is "a little more retro for MUDVAYNE" from a songwriting point of view, according to singer Chad Gray.

-blabbermouth.net

Two independent record labels have sued Guns N' Roses for $1 million, claiming the group used portions of two songs by a German musician on their last album "Chinese Democracy."

Guns N' Roses and Universal Music Group's Interscope-Geffen A&M label were sued by British label Independiente and the U.S. arm of Domino Recording Company, who own the licensing rights to songs by German electronic musician Ulrich Schnauss.

Singer Axl Rose and Guns N' Roses band members and album producers copied portions of two of Schnauss' songs -- "Wherever You Are" and "A Strangely Isolated Place" -- for a song used on the band's last album called "Riad N' the Bedouins," according to the lawsuit.

The lawsuit, filed on Friday but made available on Monday, seeks $1 million in damages. A spokesperson for Interscope-Geffen A&M, owned by Vivendi's Universal Music Group, was not available for comment.

"Chinese Democracy," the band's first new album in 17 years that was released last November, resulted in disappointing sales.

Besides Rose, the only original member in the band, the other current and former band members named in the suit include guitarist Brian Carroll, better known as "Buckethead," bassist Tommy Stinson, and Robin Finck, who currently plays lead guitar with rock act Nine Inch Nails.  -reuters.com

The Red Hot Chili Peppers will end their two-year break on October 12, reports drummer Chad Smith.

The band went on hiatus in 2007 after Stadium Arcadium. In the intervening time Smith has been part of Chickenfoot with Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony of Van Halen and guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani. He's also just released a funk instrumental album with his other side-project, the Bombastic Meatbats.

Singer Anthony Kiedis has been developing a TV series, Spider and Son, based on his autobiography. Bassist Flea, who started out as a jazz musician, has been studying music theory and trumpet at university. Guitarist John Frusciante released his tenth solo album, The Empyrean, early this year, and has continued his collaborations with the Mars Volta.

But now Smith tells Rolling Stone the funk-rock four piece are ready to get back in the game, and will convene for songwriting on October 12.

He says: "I'm going back to playing with the Chili Peppers and I've no idea what it might sound like - which is exciting. It's been two years and we'll just get back together and play. This is my favourite part: the creative process. It's the coolest part of making music and being in a band.

"I love playing live but I get a lot of enjoyment out of this process."

Smith remains vague on the subject of whether Frusciante has been convinced to return to the fold. In recent months the guitarist has said he had "no plans" to work with the Chili Peps again. The only firm news was that he and Flea had talked things over and the feeling was positive.

Smith tells Crave Online: "John wasn't too anxious to get back and get going. But one way or another, we'll get going." -rockradio.co.uk

Columbia Records and Albert Productions has announced the release of "Backtracks", the ultimate AC/DC collector's experience, available Tuesday, November 10.

Arriving in two distinctly different fan-friendly editions, "Backtracks" spans the length and breadth of AC/DC's career, bringing together rare songs, hard-to-find live performances and the long-awaited debut of "Family Jewels Disc 3", a DVD showcasing the group's music videos, live performances, and promotional clips from 1992-2009. (The original double-disc "Family Jewels" was named 2005's "DVD of the Year" by the U.K.'s Classic Rock magazine while the RIAA certified the collection 10x platinum for sales in excess of 1 million copies in the U.S. alone.)

Manufactured in an exclusive run limited to 50,000 pieces, the deluxe collector's edition of "Backtracks" includes a CD of studio rarities, two CDs of live rarities, the "Family Jewels Disc 3" DVD, the "Live at the Circus Krone" DVD, a front-row immersion in the band's scorching 2003 club show in Munich, Germany, and a 12" long-playing album, struck in 180 gram vinyl, of hard-to-find studio tracks. The limited-edition "Backtracks" includes a five-disc media carrier to house and transport the set's three CDs and two DVDs.

In addition the deluxe collector's edition comes with a 164-page coffee table book and an Original Memorabilia Reproductions Envelope containing an astounding array of facsimiles including the "I DO IT FOR AC/DC" button (the band's very first tour merch), the 1976 "Lock Up Your Daughters" tour flyer, the "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" recording track sheet, a 2' x 3' 1977 "Let There Be Rock" European tour poster, a Bon Scott parrot tattoo replica, an AC/DC logo guitar pick, an Australian "Money Talks" dollar, three black-and-white fine art lithographs of never-before-seen photos of the band in the Alberts Studio in 1977 and more.

The AC/DC deluxe collector's edition of "Backtracks" comes housed in a fully operational AC/DC guitar amplifier. The limited and numbered deluxe collector's edition of "Backtracks" will be available direct-to-consumers exclusively through the web site ACDCBacktracks.com with full details on pre-ordering going live on the site on Tuesday, September 29.

The three-disc standard version of "Backtracks" distills the electrifying essence of the deluxe set into one CD of studio rarities, one CD of hard-to-find live tracks, and the indispensable "Family Jewels Disc 3" DVD.

What you get with AC/DC "Backtracks" Deluxe Collector's Edition:

Collector's Edition Box-Set:

The 12"x12"x4" (30cm*30cm*10cm) exterior box is designed to resemble a vintage AC/DC guitar amp -- complete with the original logo that was spray-painted onto the rear of Angus and Malcolm Young's speaker cabinets in 1975. The "head" of the amp has a handle that lifts the top off to reveal the contents housed within. Oh yeah, the head is also a WORKING GUITAR AMPLIFIER! That's right, one watt of pure AC/DC makes this box a truly unique collector's item. You can PLAY the box set while LISTENING TO the box set! Check out the videos of Angus using the amp.

3 CDs:

CD 1 - Studio Rarities

This CD, for the first time, collects AC/DC's studio rarities, many on CD for the first time. These are all of the songs that the band recorded throughout their career that appeared on Australian-only LP releases, movie soundtracks, 7" and 12" single releases, and CD "tour editions", etc. 12 of the 18 tracks are completely unique songs that have all been remastered to match the unparalleled sound quality of the rest of the Columbia AC/DC catalog reissues. The other 6 tracks are the original versions of classic AC/DC songs previously only available on the original Australian albums. Some restore seconds to the original fades, others restore guitar solos and choruses. All are highly sought-after collectibles and have never sounded this good!

CDs 2 & 3 - Live Rarities

Like CD 1, this is a collection of the band's live rarities from singles, CD pros, compilations and other oddities. All have been remastered from original sources for optimum sound quality.

2 DVDs:

"Family Jewels" Disc 3

Picking up where the original 2DVD "Family Jewels" set leaves off (1991), "Family Jewels" Disc Three begins with "Big Gun" the theme song to the motion picture "Last Action Hero" -- itself a rarity on CD 1 - the first time on any AC/DC album! You also get all three music videos from the "Ballbreaker" album, three from "Stiff Upper Lip" and the most recent clips for "Rock N Roll Train" and "Anything Goes" from the #1 album "Black Ice". But there's more! Several clips from the original "Family Jewels" set actually had more than one promotional clip. Here are the alternate versions of those classic videos - all on DVD for the first time.

Live At The Circus Krone 2003:

2003 was a banner year for AC/DC. From their induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame to massive European dates with THE ROLLING STONES, the band made several high-profile public appearances (including the SARS concert in Toronto for 200,000!). One run of shows found the band returning to their roots - playing clubs and theaters where they thrilled fans with sweaty, stripped-down shows and even throwing in some rarities they hadn't played in years. This show from Munich, Germany is the epitome of an "inside" look at how powerful the AC/DC show is -- without all the bells and whistles of the big arena and stadium shows (well, they did bring the cannons...).

164-Page Coffee Table Book:

164 pages of rare and unseen photos spanning 1974-2009 plus full-size re-prints of original press releases, tour itineraries, tour books, test pressing labels, advertisements and much more. A real history of the band from the inside out. Rare photography includes never-before-seen shots of the band recording at the Albert Music studio on King Street in Sydney with legendary producers Harry Vanda and George Young in 1977. Also tons of unpublished live shots from all over the world.

LP:

The 12 unique studio rarities from CD 1 presented on 180-gram audiophile vinyl, mastered specifically for LP. A classic album in its own right!

Three months after his Las Vegas wedding to Esther Nazarov, Limp Bizkit's frontman Fred Durst announced on Twitter that the couple's marriage was officially over. "For those of you inquiring I will confirm that Esther and I have decided to go our separate ways and we both thank you for your support."

"Thank you all SO much for your concern and extremely kind words. Sincerely. We remain very positive and wish only the best for each other," he added.

E! News is reporting that the couple faced a lot of tension in their marriage while on a month-long retreat in the mountains, where Durst was working on a new album.

"Cheers to life. When things fall apart it's good to have a friend to lean on. We cannot go back and start a new beginning, but we can start today and make a new ending," he also wrote on Twitter. -starpulse.com_

Honoring or even replicating a multiplatinum band's legacy after their lead singer dies is a sticky situation no matter what the scenario. AC/DC may have made it look like a cakewalk, but most others are on a path to glorified karaoke.

For Black Gives Way To Blue, Alice In Chains' first full-length album in 14 years, careful steps were taken to make sure the record was worthy of the band name, and not to box new singer William DuVall (of 'Comes With The Fall,' who also played in Cantrell's solo band) into a Layne Staley impression.

"We have never worked this fucking hard on a record," guitarist Jerry Cantrell told Rolling Stone." It's a hell of a challenge to try to add to a legacy. It takes a big set of fucking balls -- four sets of balls -- to take on a challenge like this, and we did it for the same reasons we made music before. We care about it, we respect what we did, and we also respect the fact that we want to continue to make music with each other, so there's a certain level that it has to live up to."

Such is the case when your mascot lead singer is dead and you try to regain your former glory. The record sounds precisely like what it is: an updated rehashing of a sound and style that's fourteen years old. Had Alice In Chains remained intact and continued to release material in the nineties, it certainly wouldn't sound like anything like Black Gives Way To Blue. But the nostalgia trip is part of the draw here, if not a mandate, and Cantrell and Co. have carefully crafted their return in a way that treads those familiar paths, but gently pushes forward. Too gently, it turns out, but the polar alternative would be much less desirable, so to err on the side of respect for one's own legacy can't be faulted - as long as the sound isn't entirely reliant upon the past.

Opener "All Secrets Known" is evidence in itself of the meticulous care Jerry Cantrell has taken in shaping the revival. The familiar lumbering guitar riffs and chugging low end are certainly like putting on an old favorite jacket, relating and reminiscing, seeing if it still fits. DuVall's lengthy moans, coupled with Cantrell's faithful harmonies, outline the style similarities to his predecessor, but impressionism is checked at the door. When the song breaks open at the halfway point, leading to a despairing, amputated solo, rays of evolution shine through. Hope begins to sprout for this new formula.

The menacing beehive buzz of "Check My Brain" is all over radio at the moment, and for good reason; it's the best song on the album, an electric wire riff with peeling leads left and right under an impossibly addictive chorus that rivals any hook in the band's history by way of memorability.

Subtle experimentation is vital to the album's believability as a supplement to the legacy rather than a leech. The weak points, including the Megadeth spin on "Last of My Kind" and loping groove of "Take Her Out," are minor and forgivable offenses, particularly given the success of downtempo tabla-tap acoustic jam "When The Sun Rose Again" and radio-hit in waiting Your "Decision".

The lyrical constructs are sentimental reflections on regret and loss, but there's no necrophilic tendency to be found here. The album-closing title track (yes, Elton John plays piano) is a direct ode to Staley, a narrative of the collective healing process of a band who's lost a voice, a brother, a core piece of their foundation. At only three minutes long, the song ends too soon, leaving a void that serves its reminding purpose.

For a group nearly caught in the mire of their own tragic history, Alice In Chains have returned with respect and justice served. A fairly predictable step under the looming cloud of what was, but a well-executed one nonetheless. Now that honor has fully been paid and the brush has been cleared, further greatness may still lie ahead for these rock survivors. -craveonline.com

LL Cool J, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and KISS lead the list of first-time nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class of 2010.

The nominees also include such first-timers as long-running rock act Genesis, reggae legend Jimmy Cliff, early rock band the Hollies and singer/songwriter Laura Nyro. According to a press release from the Rock Hall, the 12-member nominee class has some repeat offenders as well, including disco diva Donna Summer, girl-group icons Darlene Love and the Chantels, 1970s pop superstars ABBA and punk godfathers the Stooges (hoping the eighth time will be the charm).

After last year's ceremony returned to the Cleveland site of the Hall for the first time in 12 years to mark the induction of Metallica, Run-DMC and Jeff Beck, the 25th annual event will take place on March 15, 2010, at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York. Ballots will be sent out to the 500 Hall of Fame voting committee members soon, with five performer inductees to be announced in January.

To be eligible for the Rock Hall, an act must have released its first single or album 25 years before the nomination.

Funk-punk lifers the Red Hot Chili Peppers formed in Los Angeles in 1983 and released their self-titled debut the next year. Formed around the core of hyperkinetic singer Anthony Kiedis, high-energy bassist Flea, late guitarist Hillel Slovak and former drummer Jack Irons, the band made a name for itself with a spastic combo of funk, punk, hard rock and hip-hop, graduating from an underground fanbase to worldwide stardom and Grammy-winning albums thanks to such landmark tracks as "Give It Away," "Under the Bridge" and "Scar Tissue."

Rapper LL Cool J busted onto the New York scene at the ripe age of 17 with the bombastic 1985 album Radio, which featured the singles "Rock the Bells" and "I Can't Live Without My Radio" and served not just as his debut, but as the first album from the Def Jam record label. The internationally known rapper/actor has since produced a string of hit albums, which include songs that run the gamut from loverman caresses ("I Need Love") to trunk funk ("Going Back to Cali"), bare-knuckle takedowns ("Mama Said Knock You Out") and sexy come-ons ("Doin' It").

One of the best-selling acts in pop history, Swedish quartet ABBA (Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Agnetha Faltskog) ruled the charts from 1972 to 1982 with a string of titanic disco-pop hits that have spawned a legion of radio staples, cover groups and a hit musical/movie adaptation, "Mamma Mia." Among their best-known songs are "Waterloo," "Mamma Mia," "SOS," "Ring Ring," "Honey, Honey" and "Fernando."

Though known almost as much for their explosive, special-effects-heavy live shows and copious merchandising than their glammy hard-rock hits, Kiss are one of the most beloved rock bands of the 1970s and '80s. With a fierce fanbase, the Kiss Army, the makeup-sporting group has sold nearly 100 million albums worldwide since forming in 1971. Their classics include such fist-pumpers as "Rock and Roll All Night," "Detroit Rock City," "Love Gun" and the disco-tinged "I Was Made for Lovin' You."

One of the most distinctive voices in girl-group history, Darlene Love began her career as a member of the California group the Blossoms in 1962, later working with famed "Wall of Sound" producer Phil Spector and singing backup for such legends as Sam Cooke. Recording for Spector under various group names (the Crystals, Bob B. Soxx & the Blue Jeans) as well as her own name, Love scored a series of hits with the songs "He's a Rebel," "He's Sure the Boy I Love," "Today I Met the Boy I'm Gonna Marry" and "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah."

"The Queen of Disco" Donna Summer earned her title in 1975 with the orgasmic hit "Love to Love You Baby," one of her many iconic collaborations with German producer Giorgio Moroder. Summer pumped out the hits "I Feel Love," "Last Dance," "Hot Stuff" and "Bad Girl," breaking chart records for her string of #1 albums.

After starting out in 1967 as an arty prog-rock band fronted by Peter Gabriel, long-running British rock act Genesis went on to pop superstardom in the 1980s and have sold more than 150 million albums to date. After Gabriel's departure in 1975, the group moved from high-art concept albums to a more radio-friendly sound that spawned a string of 1980s hits such as "Misunderstanding," "Turn It on Again," "No Reply at All," "That's All" and "Invisible Touch," all sung by drummer and leader Phil Collins.

Jimmy Cliff has been one of the most indelible voices in reggae for more than 40 years. Along with the late Bob Marley, Cliff is credited with helping to bring reggae to the masses thanks to his starring role in the 1972 movie "The Harder They Come." Such frequently covered songs as "Trapped," "You Can Get It if You Really Want," "Many Rivers to Cross," "The Harder They Come" and "Sitting in Limbo" have earned him a spot in the genre's pantheon of greats.

Late singer/songwriter Laura Nyro was just 19 when she recorded her debut in 1966, the same year folk trio Peter, Paul & Mary recorded her song, "And When I Die." The fragile singer with an eclectic style that touched on pop, jazz and R&B wrote a string of songs that became hits for other acts, including "Stoned Soul Picnic," "Sweet Blindness," "Wedding Bell Blues" and "Blowin' Away." She also scored her own hit with Carole King's "Up on the Roof."

The Chantels first got together in the late 1950s in the Bronx, scoring their first hit in 1957 with "He's Gone," and following it up with the songs "Maybe" and "Look in My Eyes," serving as a template for later success by girl groups such as the Shirelles and the Supremes. English rock group the Hollies made a name with their crystal-clear three-part harmonies and had a massive string of hits in the early 1960s with the songs "Look Through Any Window," "Bus Stop," "If I Needed Someone," "Stop! Stop! Stop!" and "On a Carousel" before the departure of group co-founder Graham Nash in 1968.

Considered the godfathers of punk rock, the Stooges formed in 1967 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, fronted by rock-and-roll madman Iggy Pop, who put the group on the map with his outrageous stage antics, which included smearing himself with peanut butter and rolling on broken glass. Their iconic songs include "I Wanna Be Your Dog," "No Fun" and "T.V. Eye." -MTV.COM

For the first time since 2007, Rob Zombie will embark on a headlining tour, this time in support of his forthcoming solo set, "The Hellbilly Deluxe 2."

The Grammy-nominated rocker will hit the road beginning Oct. 29 in Phoenix, followed by club and theater shows in 19 cities. The outing works its way from the West Coast to the East, wrapping up Dec. 5 in Washington, DC. A special Halloween (10/31) performance in Hollywood is also on the books. Details are shown below.

"I'm bouncing off the walls like a mental patient," Zombie said in a press release. "That tells me it's time to take it to the stage and let the demons loose."

Zombie most recently released "Educated Horses," his third solo album, in 2006. Since that time, the former White Zombie frontman has written, directed and produced horror films, including the 2007 remake of the 1978 classic "Halloween" and it's sequel, "Halloween II," which hit the silver screen last month.

Smashing Pumpkins mainman Billy Corgan has issued the following update:

"I'm happy to finally announce the plans for the new Smashing Pumpkins album.

"Recording began yesterday, September 15th, 2009 on the new record which will be entitled 'Teargarden by Kaleidyscope'. The album will feature 44 songs, four of which are now being recorded. My desire is to release a song at a time beginning around Halloween of this year, with each new release coming shortly after until all 44 are out. Each song will be made available absolutely for free, to anyone anywhere. There will be no strings attached. Free will mean free, which means you won't have to sign up for anything, give an email address, or jump through a hoop. You will be able to go and take the song or songs as you wish, as many times as you wish.

"We will however sell highly limited edition EPs (of four songs each times 11), and details of how those EPs will be made available are still being worked out. Because the songs themselves will be free, the EPs will be more like collectors' items for the discerning fan who will want the art itself, along with the highest possible audio quality available. The EPs will be more like mini-box sets rather than your normal CD Single. We may also offer other variations for sale, say for example a digital single with a demo version of a song. The commitment that is most important is the one I'm making to you: that the music of 'Teargarden by Kaleidyscope' will be available for free to everyone. All 44 songs: free for ALL.

"When the entire album is finished, it will be compiled into a deluxe box set which will also be made available for sale. Those who have bought the EPs need not worry, as the box set will not be a recompilation of the limited edition pieces.

"The story of the album is based on 'The Fool's Journey', as signified in the progress of the Tarot. It is my intention to approach this by breaking down the journey of our life here into four phases as made by these different characters; the Child, the Fool, the Skeptic, and the Mystic.

"The music of 'Teargarden by Kaleidyscope' harkens back to the original psychedelic roots of the Smashing Pumpkins: atmospheric, melodic, heavy, and pretty.

"I already have 53 songs written for the record, so I am quite confident that I already have much of the material that I would need to undertake such an extensive project. I am very committed to seeing this album through to its completion and very, very excited about the prospect of delivering new Smashing Pumpkins music to you in a unique and exciting way." -Blabbermouth.net

Gavin Rossdale is crossing the bridge to the TV land. The former singer of Bush is making a guest star appearance on CBS' "Criminal Minds", playing a Goth rock star who is a suspect in a murder case. The team will have to find out whether or not he is moonlighting as a serial killer. His episode is unknown but it will be the one aired in November.

This would be the first acting gig for the rocker in a primetime TV. He previously only starred in big screen projects such as 2004's "Little Black Book" and 2007's "How to Rob a Bank".

""Criminal Minds" kicks off the fifth season on September 23 at 9/8c. In the first episode called "Nameless, Faceless", Hotch's unexplained absence quickly becomes apparent when the team is called back together to profile a killer who is targeting an emergency room doctor. -aceshowbiz.com

Courtney Love has no love in her heart for the latest "Guitar Hero" sequel, and she wants to take her displeasure straight to the courts. "Guitar Hero 5" has been a popular topic on her Twitter account for the last 24 hours. As Kurt Cobain's widow, she claims that his likeness was used without proper consent and that she's planning legal action as a result.

"For the record this Guitar Hero s--t is breach of contract on a Bullys part and there will be a proper addressing of this and retraction," Love wrote via Twitter. "WE are going to sue the s--t out of ACtivision we being the Trust the Estate the LLC the various LLCs Cobain Enterprises."

Some of her other tweets are little harder to make out, but it's probably fair to say she is primed for a legal rampage. Furthermore, she is actively discouraging gamers from playing "Guitar 5."

"YOU for dismissing me as a LOON, go f---ing play guitar hero commit necrophilai KNOW you are raping me and my family mother in law child," she posted.

However the allegations turn out in court, Love does not sound like the type of person anyone would want to find themselves in front of on the wrong end of a lawsuit right now.

: Activision reached out with their official comment: "Guitar Hero secured the necessary licensing rights from the Cobain estate in a written agreement signed by Courtney Love to use Kurt Cobain's likeness as a fully playable character in Guitar Hero® 5." -MTV.COM

In the off time from revamping his Smashing Pumpkins for another new album, front-man and only original Pumpkin Billy Corgan has apparently been dabbling in spiritual matters. The proof can be found at his new website, Everything From Here to There.

The site looks like it's going to be a regularly updated blog that welcomes user contributions, though they warn that "all submissions are subject to approval of the site administration team." No contact info is currently available on the site.

All it really contains so far is a manifesto-type welcome letter from Corgan, who shows his sincerity by signing off as "William Patrick Corgan," as well as a tribute to Walter Elias Disney.

Here's the full run-down of the site's beliefs:

Hello, many blessings to you for visiting Everything From Here to There.

The purpose of this website is to discuss openly and without fear concepts of Mind-Body-Soul integration. If you are drawn to the Hidden Truths, drawn to God as something beyond limitation, and drawn to Love as the greatest force in the Universe, then you have come to the right place at the right time. This is a place of Love.

In discussing Mind-Body-Soul integration within the context of holistic Truth, many topics will be explored here that may be new to you. Like any good tree that one would hope to grow, we must set our roots deep into the ground so that what is real will prosper in the Light of Love.

This site is non-denominational, we promote no religion, and if we speak of any belief or faith system it won't be at the expense of another. That is not to avoid the obvious. Most of the citizens of this planet put their faith in someone or something. This website respects every belief and every faith as an expression of God's greater Will.

This is not a place of judgment, nor a place of making proof. We begin with the idea that there is a God. We begin with the undying belief that there is a unifying intelligence that manifests itself in Every-thing. Even if you don't believe in God, exploring fully the idea of a God or Gods should pose no threat to you. The idea of a higher collective intelligence or consistent organizing principle should be worth contemplating no matter what you believe in (or don't believe in). For who is God if not Us?

Mind-Body-Soul integration is the primary focus of this site, and how it can best manifest in our daily life. We will strive to celebrate the brilliant Spirit in each individual and work collectively to glorify that which is Holy in each and every one of us. To honor and recognize that support for another is also support for ourselves; To kindle the flame in every heart humbly as gratitude for our opportunity here to make a subtle yet important difference. It is that simple.

The date of origination for Everything From Here to There is 9.9.09, a perfect date to mark this beginning of a wonderful opportunity. We swing the garden gate open, and ALL are welcome Here.

The City of West Hoolywood will honor the amazing musical legacy of rock
superstar Ozzy Osbourne by declaring Thursday, September 10, 2009 "Ozzy Osbourne Day" in West Hollywood. That night, the Sunset Strip Music Festival will kick off with a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne at the House of Blues, 8430 Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood. Osbourne will also close the Sunset Strip Music Festival when he performs Saturday, September 12, 2009. That set will mark Ozzy's first full performance on the famous Sunset Strip in almost 40 years and his first as a solo artist. In 1970, as the frontman for BLACK SABBATH, Ozzy performed a five-night stand at the Whisky A Go-Go as part of their first U.S. tour.

"Ozzy has had a sizeable musical impact," said West Hoolywood Mayor Pro Tempore John Heilman, who has been instrumental in the establishment of the Sunset Strip Music Festival. "We want to salute all of his contributions to the music industry and to the Sunset Strip," Heilman continued.

Grammy Award-winning Ozzy Osbourne's illustrious career has spanned 39 years and includes record sales of more than 50 million as a solo artist and more than 50 million albums as a member of the group BLACK SABBATH. Highlights of Ozzy's career include the release of his first solo record, "Blizzard of Ozz", in 1980 with the record quickly going four times platinum. Throughout the '80s, Ozzy released seven records with each one selling more than two million copies. During the 1990s, Ozzy released five records with each going multi-platinum. Ozzy and Sharon, his wife and manager, also launched Ozzfest music festival, which was the first national music festival of its kind dedicated to hard rock music and breaking new artists. More than 1.4 million fans attend the annual Ozzfest music festival which Ozzy headlines. Ozzy received his first Grammy Award in 1993 for "Best Metal Performance" for "I Don't Want to Change the World".

During the new millennium, Ozzy embraced mainstream success with the reality show "The Osbournes". The show debuted on MTV to a record-breaking audience for a new program. Further episodes created a national sensation around the Osbourne family and ratings skyrocketed to become the highest-ever in MTV's 22-year history with the show remaining the highest rated series in MTV's history.

Perhaps less known for his extensive philanthropic contributions, Ozzy Osbourne performed at the 1985 Live Aid event to benefit world hunger. A portion of all proceeds from Ozzfest is donated to various charities and he has helped raise millions of dollars in support of several charities, including 21st Century Leaders; MusiCares; Music for Relief; Prince's Trust; Save the Children; Sharon Osbourne Colon Cancer Program; and Whatever it Takes. -Blabbermouth.net

Howard Owens of The Batavian reports that a 23-year-old man was stabbed in the leg by a knife-wielding assailant on September 5, 2009 on the last date of Motley Crue's Crue Fest 2 at the Darien Lake Performing Arts Center in Darien Lake, New York.

Trouble started for John Michael Bieganski, 23, according to a Sheriff's Office report, when he thought he saw a friend being tackled and punched but one or two other men. When he tried to pull one of the men off his friend -- it turned out not to be his friend who was being attacked -- Bieganski said he suddenly felt something warm on his leg, touched it and then saw the blood.

After the attack, Bieganski's buddy -- Evan Laczi -- grabbed him in a fireman's carry and hoisted him from the mosh pit, but according to Glenn Hall, who was one of the first people to come to Bieganski's aid, Laczi and Bieganski came through a whole crowd of people who ignored Laczi's cries for help.

Some hard rockers have teamed up to form a fantasy football league on ESPN.com, all for a good cause and bragging rights.

Jerry Cantrell fondly remembers watching his two favorite teams, Seattle and Pittsburgh, go head-to-head in the 2006 Super Bowl.

Hard-core NFL fan Jerry Cantrell of Alice In Chains has recruited some fellow heavy metal musicians and friends to take part in his other passion, fantasy football.

The full lineup, which is listed below with each owner's bio information, includes Duff McKagan of Guns 'N' Roses and Velvet Revolver, Mike Inez of Alice In Chains, Scott Ian of Anthrax, former NFL player Matt Willig and ESPN's own Talented Mr. Roto, Matthew Berry.

Later this season, each participant will put up an item for an online auction and all of the proceeds will go to the charity chosen by the champion of the Alice In Chains & Friends fantasy football league. Examples of the items that will be up for bidding later include a Scott Ian signature Washburn guitar and a G&L guitar autographed by the members of Alice In Chains. More details about the auction will be published later this season in The Life.

As most fantasy sports owners can relate, the live draft was not without controversy on Aug. 23. Inez had been listed first but then the randomly drawn draft order shuffled things around and gave Kenny Wayne Shepherd the top pick an hour before the start.

These are some of the comments we can repeat from the draft room:

"I smell a rat! That's bull----!!!" Inez wrote.

"Inez got screwed," Zakk Wylde typed.

But before anything like an on-stage fight broke loose, everyone shook it off as if it was some unwanted concert feedback and quickly got back to business

Shepherd drafted Minnesota's Adrian Peterson first overall to start the trend for running backs, and here's the rest of the first round:

Ian: Falcons running back Michael Turner
Vinnie Paul: Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald
Berry: Bears running back Matt Forte
Wylde: Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams
Cantrell: Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew
Kenny Aronoff: Rams running back Steven Jackson
Willig: Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson
Inez: Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson
McKagan: Titans running back Chris Johnson

We won't list each round of the draft, but here are a few comments and exchanges from the draft room:

"My first draft! Wheeeeeeeeeee!!" -- Ian

"I hate mjd (Maurice Jones-Drew) but couldn't pass on him." -- Cantrell

"That sukd." -- Willig after drafting 49ers running back Frank Gore in the second round.

"Gore not sitting well with you?" -- Cantrell

"Gore is a gamer. Lotta carries." -- Inez

"But he's got a pretty crappy O-line." -- McKagan

"No love for your Niners, Matt?" -- Cantrell

"Haha." -- Inez

"Not really" -- Willig (a former Niner)

A G&L guitar autographed by Alice In Chains will be one of the items to be auctioned off to raise money for charity.

"Housh in Seattle" -- Inez, after he drafted Seahawks wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh in the fourth round.

"Should do pretty good if Hasselbeck stays healthy." -- McKagan

"Walter Jones just went down and so did the center ... not looking good." -- Cantrell

"Ouch. This is going to be Walter's last year, right?" -- McKagan

"I think so ... could be another long year ... no O line." -- Cantrell

Weekly updates on the Alice In Chains & Friends Fantasy Football League, trash talk and interviews with the owners will be published on ESPN.com's The Life section throughout the season. Members of the league will also drop by for occasional chats on SportsNation. So check back to see which metal maven is king of the league.

As Inez said, "This is gonna rock." -ESPN.COM

Resurrected rock band Stone Temple Pilots cements its reunion with another round of U.S. tour dates for the fast-approaching fall and winter months. The first leg of the tour is a 12-date, one-month venture that launches October 2 at Bayfest in Mobile, AL.

Through the month of October, STP will hit major markets on both coasts of the U.S. on the run, which is currently set to wrap on October 23 at Star of the Desert Arena in Primm, NV. Some of the other scheduled stops are October 6 at the House of Blues in North Myrtle Beach, SC, and October 20 at Fox Theater in Oakland, CA.

At this point, the "winter" stretch of the itinerary bears just two concert dates. Those shows are slated for December 29 at Hard Rock Live in Biloxi, MS, and January 1 at Winstar World Casino in Thackerville, OK. It is unclear how many additional tour legs or performances are planned for the 2009-2010 venture.

Presales are currently open for a handful of STP's early October shows, but are restricted to members of the band's official fan club. The first public onsales began August 28, on Ticketmaster.com.

Returning to the concert market for the first time since officially splitting in 2003, STP launched a massive reunion tour that spanned six months of 2008. The venture was originally scheduled from mid-May through the end of August, but was eventually extended through September and October for a total of more than 70 shows.

After completing the stint with his band, STP frontman Scott Weiland launched a series of solo concerts to promote his latest independent work, "Happy in Galoshes." STP hasn't released a studio record since 2001's "Shangri-La Dee Da," though a new album is reportedly in the works and slated for release in late 2009.

"We have a few shows lined up with STP, we'll finish the record and then we'll be out doing our thing, touring for awhile once the record comes out," Weiland told artist direct in a June interview. "It'll probably be a Christmas release."- ticketsnow.com

Them Crooked Vultures consists of Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl on drums, Queens Of The Stone Age singer/guitarist Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin bass player John Paul Jones.

Them Crooked Vultures have announced the dates and venues for their first North American tour, which will begin on October 1 at the kick-off party for the Austin City Limits festival in Austin, Texas. The trio will tape a performance for the "Austin City Limits" TV program one day earlier on September 30, with an airdate to be determined. Tickets for the tour go on sale this Saturday (September 5) at 10:00 a.m. local time. Them Crooked Vultures have played only one show in the U.S. so far, on August 9 at a Lollapalooza afterparty in Chicago.

Although a debut album has been completed, reports of an October 27 release are said by the group's publicist to be just rumors. The band has just finished a short run of European festival dates. -Blabbermouth.net -Blabbermouth.net

Tantric's fourth album, Mind Control, was released August 4 on the Silent Majority Group label (through Warner Music Group's Independent Label Group).Originally scheduled for July 21, the album was produced by Brett Hestla (Creed, Framing Hanley, Dark New Day) and is the follow-up to 2008's The End Begins, which produced the Top Five Rock hit, "Down and Out."

The album's first single, "Mind Control," is currently in the Top 40 on the Mediabase Active Rock chart after only two weeks, garnering spins on over 50 radio stations nationwide including Phoenix, Detroit, Dallas, Houston and Chicago, and including Sirius XM's "Octane" channel. A video for the track was recently shot in Nashville with director Mason Dixon (who directed the video for "Down and Out") and will be debuting nationwide via MTV2's Unleashed on August 4.

Touring and Writing a New Record

After spending nearly a year on the road promoting The End Begins, Tantric returned home to begin penning their new album. Except home, for each member, was a different place in the U.S. So instead of sitting together in a rehearsal space in the same city, the members of Tantric wrote separately, sending files electronically to Hugo Ferreira (lead vocals), who compiled them into working demos. After a few months, the band had written almost thirty songs.

"It was a really unique way of approaching a record," Hugo says in talking to Suite101 and other media outlets earlier this July. "It was definitely more of a collaboration than the last record in terms of writing. And we wrote it together even though we were thousands of miles apart. I don't know how, but we really wrote an incredible record in a short period of time. I've always wanted to make a record like this."

The band then reconvened in the secluded studio in Poconos where they had recorded their last album, where they spent a week playing the songs live and experimenting with what they had written long distance for Mind Control. Inevitably, some of the numbers shifted and evolved during that week.

"We had written the whole record over the computer," says Erik Leonhardt (bass)."So a lot of it changed once we got into the studio. When you have everyone in the same room the ideas start changing. 'What if we do this? What if we do that?'We definitely went heavier on this record, too. I think it has a lot to do with having all new members. This is the new band, full on and writing together. We never said 'let's write a heavier record,' this is just what happened."

Inside the New Release

The songs on Mind Control are far ranging both in terms of lyrical content and sonic aesthetic, something the band feels truly encapsulates who they are as artists. The title track and first single, "Mind Control," a song about the media, sits on the heavier end of the spectrum, chugging with propulsive guitars and an arena-ready rock melody."What Are You Waiting For," fills the other end of the spectrum, an emotionally urgent power ballad that immediately engages its listener. The album, as a cohesive whole, reveals the band that Tantric has become. After a tumultuous ten-year career, a shifting of members, and four albums spent searching for themselves, Tantric has solidified their line-up and crafted an album that successfully represents who they are.

"My goal is always to do what I love and survive at it," explains Hugo, "but I would like this record to take us farther than the last record. I would like it to establish Tantric as this band that's not going anywhere. We've been here for four records already and every record that we're delivering is getting better. I'm so proud of Mind Control. It's the one I've always wanted to make." -indie-music-news.com

Tantric is performing live at Scout Bar TONIGHT with Aranda & Vayden.  Tickets are $14 plus a service charge.

Living Colour frontman Corey Glover was recently interviewed about the band's upcoming CD, The Chair in the Doorway, due Sept 15 from Megaforce Records. Here is an excerpt or two:

On the very familiar chord progression of first single "Behind the Sun"

I hear the U2 sort of thing going on [in 'Behind the Sun']. I was surfing on the internet and there's this thing called [The Axis of Awesome's] 4 Chords. You could name 65 songs with that same chord progression [as 'Behind the Sun'] completely by accident. There's a U2 song, there's a Journey song there, there's a Beatles song, there's a couple of tunes that have the same chord progression and it's completely accidental.

On re-recording "Cult of Personality" for 2007's Guitar Hero III: Legend of Rock

We recorded it and sent it to [Vivid producer] Ed Stasium, which is kind of why it sounds so similar [to the original]. I play the game sometimes and it's weird to hear it because I'm amazed that I still sound the same. What's very different about it is the guitar solo that's actually harder to play than the original!

On the band's North American tour, which launches Sept. 1 in Alexandria, VA

We haven't played in the States in a very long time. Let's face it, our audience is older. And those people who are coming to this for the first time are going to be very different than they were the last time we played there. So we're going to have do a real balancing act as to what people remember and what new stuff they want to hear in re-introducing ourselves to the audience.

We're primarily a live band. A recording is just a moment in time. If you want to see how it evolved and where it went and where it is going, come see us live. And then go home, listen to the record and hear how it's changed. And know that we're going to come back and it's going to change from there. -metalmixtape.com

Remembered as one of the most iconic artists in the history of alternative rock, Kurt Cobain's enduring legacy continues with his video game debut as one of five exclusive in-game artists in Guitar Hero 5. The former lead singer and guitarist of Nirvana will be featured as a playable character, performing two of the band's hit singles from their 1991 genre-defining album Nevermind: "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and a special, previously unreleased live recording of "Lithium." The band's breakthrough hit and one of the greatest rock songs of all time, "Smells Like Teen Spirit" helped define the 1990s and will speak to a whole new generation in Guitar Hero 5.

"Kurt Cobain is one of the most recognizable frontmen in rock 'n' roll history and it's an honor to have two of Nirvana's masterpieces included in Guitar Hero 5," said Tim Riley, Vice President of Music Affairs for Activision. "This is the first time the original recording of 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' has ever been licensed in an entertainment property and we're thrilled to offer Guitar Hero(R) fans exclusive access to the unreleased live version of 'Lithium.'"

Guitar Hero 5 features the strongest, most varied set list to date comprised of master tracks from more than 80 of the hottest bands of today and the biggest classic acts; including Kings of Leon, The Rolling Stones, The White Stripes, Santana, Vampire Weekend, Tom Petty, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, plus more than 25 artists from a variety of music genres that will be making their music video game debut. Among the first-time-ever features of Guitar Hero 5 are: Party Play, where players can jump in or drop out of gameplay seamlessly; RockFest, a comprehensive competitive experience available featuring five new head-to-head modes playable online or in your living room; and the ability to play the entire set-list from the first time the game is turned on.

Guitar Hero 5 refines the player experience, enhances the art style and redesigns core features such as GH Music Studio, making it the most accessible, fun-to-play and authentic experience for seasoned music gamers as well as first-time players. New innovations such as Band Moments, where bands are rewarded for hitting special note streams together and song challenges where gamers are tasked to play through a song a specific way, add a new competitive layer of excitement and accomplishment to the music rhythm genre.

Platinum-selling Rock band Saving Abel will headline the inaugural "CLASS OF 2009" TOUR, with Red, Pop Evil and Taddy Porter along for the ride. The excursion will get underway on October 27th in San Antonio, TX and continue until the end of the year. The first leg of dates will go on sale the weekend of August 28th, with additional blocks of performances to be announced shortly.

The concept behind this new annual tour is to bring together rock artists who have achieved substantial TOP TEN hits at radio in the current calendar year. Each year, an unsigned band, a.k.a. "The Freshman," will be selected to open the show for the full tour, providing an opportunity that is nothing short of a launching pad. Each of the acts on the inaugural run outside of Taddy Porter (this year's "Freshman") is riding major airplay at radio, and could be touring as a headliner on their own. The submission process outlining eligibility for consideration to be "The Freshman" for the "CLASS OF 2010" tour will be unveiled soon.

Headliner Saving Abel is the first act in over three years to have three top five rock hits off their debut release. The band's debut singles" Addicted," "18 Days," and "Drowning (Face Down)" have delivered a massive fan base for the Corinth, MS. quintet. Saving Abel's biggest hit "Addicted," was a #1 rock hit, crossed over to peak at #7 on Billboard's Top 40 Airplay Chart and also sold over a million downloads. Both RED and Pop Evil have had hits in the Top 10 this year and are quickly becoming staples at rock radio as well.

Saving Abel guitarist Jason Null offered, "I love the idea of this tour. Not only do we get to tour with some of the other hit makers of 2009, we also get a chance to help break a new artist. This is a great line-up that our fans and rock fans in general are going to be way into. We can't wait to get out there."

The concept behind the "CLASS OF" tours is the collective brainchild of Rick Smith, Scott Frazier and Larry Mestel as their first project for Primary Wave Music Management along with booking agent Justin Hirschman from Artist Group International. Future tours in the coming years will be staged, with the intent to see the concept grow exponentially in terms of the number of bands, venue sizes, and attendees. As the years pass, the moniker will change annually reflecting the year the excursion hits the road.

Primary Wave Music Management partner Rick Smith offered, "The fans across the country continue to support rock music. It is increasingly harder to break a new band. Our plan is to provide a stage for new bands to play in front of large audiences." Scott Frazier added," I laugh when I hear industry people say there's nothing new and good to sign. I live where the audience lives and this tour is for them."

This upcoming semester should be like no other... Class is in Session.

SLIPKNOT has cancelled all of its previously announced shows in August and September after drummer Joey Jordison was taken to the hospital this past Saturday for undisclosed health reasons. The band initially hoped to be able to resume touring on Sunday, but has now made the decision to call off all remaining dates.

Video footage of SLIPKNOT frontman Corey Taylor announcing the cancellation of the band's concert in Seattle on Saturday, August 22 can be viewed below.

Taylor gave a brief video interview to the British mental health charity YoungMinds while in London earlier this month for the Kerrang! Awards. In the clip, Taylor talks about his own problems as a youth and offers advice to troubled young people, saying, "Anything you're feeling right now, no matter how strong you feel it, is temporary. You have incredible lives ahead of you, you have incredible things you can accomplish. If you feel that you will have an amazing life. Do not let anything build a wall to high for you to get over it -- I know that might seem very cliched but I've had a lot of friends who've hurt themselves, but all of that stuff is so temporary."

Taylor adds, "You can get through it, you're stronger than you think, you'll always be stronger than you think."

Taylor recently told the Daily Star that he's getting married this November for the second time. His bride-to-be is named Stephanie.

The 35-year-old singer has two children: a daughter named Angie, born in 1992, and a son named Griffin, born in 2002 to Taylor and his first wife, Scarlett. Taylor told The Pulse of Radio a while back that becoming a father changed his life significantly. "It definitely makes you re-evaluate how you live your life," he said. "It definitely makes you realize that, you know, when you have family, it makes you want to try as hard as you can to spend the rest of your life with them, you know?"

SLIPKNOT will release a deluxe 10th anniversary reissue of its 1999 major label debut on September 9. -BLABBERMOUTH.NET

BILLY CORGAN has announced that Mike Byrne has joined THE SMASHING PUMPKINS as their new drummer. The 19-year-old Portland, OR native will make his debut with the band on the Pumpkins' next albumÂ--about which a major announcement is expected in September--and tour. "I'm super excited to be playing with the band," says Byrne. "Dream come true, man."

Byrne--who's played in such indie Portland bands as Moses, Smell The Roses and the Mercury Tree--heard about the Pumpkins' open call for a new drummer on the Internet this past April and submitted his materials. Byrne was immediately called to attend an audition in Los Angeles, where Corgan liked what he heardÂ--a lot. "We didn't actually play songs at the audition," says Byrne. "We just kind of jammed for about 15 minutes and then talked about Fugazi for the other 15 or so minutes."

Playing drums since he was 11--"I think if you're born a drummer, you know you're going to be a drummer for your

entire life"--Byrne formed his first band at 15, Mercury Tree, which played some shows in Portland. His influences include post rock bands like Mogwai, Maserati, and Maps and Atlases as well as the Pumpkins. "It was a really good time in my life to hear the Pumpkins music when I was 13. It just connected with me and it was sort of a window into something really different and eclectic. The band was a little bit more willing to take risks than a lot of the stuff I had been listening to. That was exciting and fresh to me. And then delving into a lot of it just definitely resonated on a creative level with me." Byrne had the chance to see the Pumpkins two years ago when they performed on tour in the Portland area.

Asked about how he feels his young age plays into the new music the Pumpkins are creating, Byrne says: "I've always thought that Billy's interpretation of music was a real fresh one," adds Byrne, "and that because the band was so rooted in the idea of kind of being like a musical shape-shifter, I feel that honestly it would work just perfectly. It's not so much that I have some fresh point of view that he's not already investigating so much as every time they release something it's sort of a new direction and so working with him is easy in that we're not operating on any founded musical principals. We're starting from scratch and just working our influences up into something totally different."

Says Billy: "Through the open audition process, I was astounded by how many great drummers there were that wanted the chance to try out for The Pumpkins. We counted over 1,000 submissions, and what made Mike stand out was he just seemed to have that X-factor that all the great drummers have, a stunning blend of power, speed, and grace. I'm excited to work with him moving forward--he truly deserves this opportunity. I believe in my heart he will push me to be a better musician."

Byrne will join Billy at six solo Southern California small club dates August 26-31 with special guests Spirits in the Sky--the band Billy assembled to play at a tribute show in Los Angeles at the Echoplex in July for late Seeds frontman Sky Saxon. Spirits in the Sky includes Mark Tulin of The Electric Prunes and Kerry Brown of Catherine and the Ancient Chinese Secrets. -Smashing Pumpkins.com

The idea of Creed playing in 2009 was recently so far-fetched that even leader Scott Stapp, let alone their fans would never believe it to be possible. But despite their sometimes worst past intentions, they begin a 41 city US tour on August 6th.

Creed's mercurial run was highlighted by a Grammy in 2001 for best rock song ("With Eyes Wide Open"). The Tallahassee, FL post-grunge group became a force on the charts and concert halls during the late 1990's, but emphatically and dramatically broke up--seemingly for good in 2004. During that time, the band had generated 35 million in world-wide sales with three albums going platinum.

Stapp admits that a variety of self-indulgent and egotistical behaviors led to the bust-up, and quite a bit of hard feelings all around about the way things ended. "We were all a bit naïve to think that we could do anything we wanted and couldn't fail...I had to take a risk in reaching out to the other guys because I knew there were hard feelings that I had generated but there had been a decent passage of time."

"I will say this: we are not doing this tour because we want to prove people wrong, or anything like that. This is not a 'reunion' where we are just playing the old stuff, to me it's a 'renewal' because we are striking out in new directions with the new CD (Note: The new album is called "Full Circle". A single entitled 'overcome' was scheduled to be released on August 5th in advance of the tour, I-tunes downloads of the entire CD is scheduled for August 12th, with the physical disk expected mid-September), and definitely a new attitude.

"I truly believe that the best days are lie ahead for the band. We are truly humbled by the opportunity to reconnect with our fans and develop new relationships. This was a precious thing that we squandered, we realize that now, and we want to show everyone the depth of our new commitment."

As evidence, Stapp points to the work that he has been doing with a new vocal coach, Beth Cohen. "Before, I would get by on what was in the tank, and use it up far too often. Beth got me to start thinking about approaching my vocal as an instrument. Because of the hard work we both did, I can truly say that my voice has never been better. I certainly can exhibit both a higher and lower range than ever before."

Good intentions are one thing, performance another. It appears that Stapp seems to know that second chances in this life are relatively rare, and that if the Creed fan base returns to them they are receiving a rare privilege. He notes that the interpersonal relations among band mates should be markedly better in their middle-ages "what used to be points of irritation are now seen as creative building blocks."

They appear to have the willing spirit, but their fans will have to see if it can truly be sustained.

Full Circle is Creed's first album since 2001's Weathered and is due out by October 20, 2009.  The first single off  the new album is titled "Overcome" and can now be heard on 99.5 KISS.  Request it now at 470- KISS.

Be sure to catch Creed live in concert at the AT&T Center on Thursday September 24, 2009.

Tickets are $30 + service charge & $85 + service charge. www.ticketmaster.com

Sevendust drummer Morgan Rose filled in for Tommy Lee at last night's (Friday, August 14) Motley Crue concert at the Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati, Ohio and will also sit behind the kit for tonight's Crue show at Clarkston, Michigan's DTE Energy Music Theatre. He writes on his Facebook page, "Well... I guess I made it through the first show?! Haha. I didn't get fired?! So let's actually learn this shit and break heads [tonight]!! Is this crazy as f***!!!? Or what??!!!"

MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx wrote in an online posting earlier today, "Tommy [Lee, drums] messed up his hand pretty bad, and yes, accidents do happen, and yes, frustration does happen to everybody, including Tommy, who would rather play drums (even with a damaged hand) than just about anything in the whole world. But following doctor's orders for a few shows is what we have to do right now (or cancel shows).

"We all wanna say we're sorry Tommy has to sit out a couple shows, But we hope to have him back up on the drums [as soon as possible]. Until then, he is at all the shows, jumping around, helping out with vocals and playing piano ever so lightly on 'Home Sweet Home'.

"Now to the hero of the day... Mr. Morgan Rose, the monstrous drummer from SEVENDUST. Morgan flew out with only minutes to go before there were no flights left from Atlanta. He came charging in like a knight in shining armor, drum pedals and sticks in hand, stepping onstage and pretty much nailing the show top to bottom first time out.

"I think Morgan needs a standing ovation for his dedication to kicking ass and helping not only MÖTLEY CRÜE out, but the road crew and everybody else out here whose lives would been affected. Thank you, bro.

"As for now, MÖTLEY CRÜE is a five-piece band... making history, one injury at a time... hahhaha..."

Video footage of Tommy explaining his arm ailment during last night's concert in Cincinnati can be viewed below.

The last time Lee was forced to sit out a MÖTLEY CRÜE gig was June 12, 2007 when he was he recovering from another arm ailment. Evanescence/Dark New Day drummer Will Hunt filled in for Lee at that show, although Tommy did manage to take to the kit for one number -- the immortal "Kickstart My Heart".

Nirvana's first full-length album, "Bleach," is getting a deluxe reissue treatment on the 20th anniversary of its release, the band's original label home, Sub Pop, announced today. The special edition will include a previously unreleased live performance, along with a newly remastered version of the original album and a collection of previously unseen photos of the band. The deluxe package is set for release on Nov. 3.

"Bleach," the band's first album and its only full-length on Sub Pop, was recorded in December, 1988 and January, 1989 and was released in June of 1989. After initially selling more than 40,000 copies and starting the group's ascension to worldwide renown, the album went on to sell more than 1.7 million copies in the United States alone, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The reissue will include a complete live recording of the band's Feb. 9, 1990 show at the Pine Street Theatre in Portland, Ore. The 11-song show includes a cover of the Vaseline's "Molly's Lips," and has been remixed from the original tapes by "Bleach" producer Jack Endino (who also oversaw the remastering of the original album for the new edition).

The remastered "Bleach" will be released as a single CD and a double LP, pressed on 180 gram white vinyl. More details about the release and and pre-order information can be found on subpop.com. -BILLBOARD.COM

People, its official: Weezer's upcoming 7th studio album (title, details, etc to be announced) is set for release October 27th, 2009!

...And the first single off the album is titled "(If you're wondering if I want you to) I want you to" and it comes out on August 25th!

...And here's another cool thing: on August 22nd in Toronto, the day before the 1st show of the tour, Rivers will be making a special appearance on the field in
Athletes for Africa Charity Soccer Tournament
!

Rivers is really excited to be playing in this match. He's played in the last 2 Mia Hamm and Nomar Garciaparra Celebrity Soccer Challenges in L.A. and this match promises to be just as fun. For this match, Rivers is a member of The Mystery Team, which also includes Ted Leo, of indie-punk band Ted Leo and the Pharmacists; Murray Foster, of folk-rock group Great Big Sea (and of Moxy Fruvous fame); freestyle soccer whiz Steve Elias and founder of Athletes for Africa, Adrian Bradbury. They join Broken Social Scene's Brendan Canning, Bedouin Soundclash's Eon Sinclair, former MuchMusic VJs Rick 'The Temp' Campanelli, Tony 'Master-T' Young, Sportsnet's Martine Gaillard, The Score's 'Cabbie' Richards and James Sharman, Toronto musician Dane Hartsell and many more, in the first-of-its-kind event, pitting celebs on the field against members of the public.

The tournament is in support of a youth and cultural center for sport, arts and reconciliation in northern Uganda, where war has ravaged the region for more than 22 years.

Game Day: Saturday, August 22, 2:00pm - 8:00pm, at Cherry Beach Fields, 275 Unwin Avenue (at the foot of Cherry Street).

Fans are welcome to come, cheer-on their favourite team and have the chance to win tickets to the after-party at the Modest Mouse show that night!
More details can be found at the website
!

...Today the band continued their rehearsals for the upcoming tour with Blink-182. Some cool new material was gone over extensively and the whole set was run through multiple times in an effort to root out any problem areas. The process is going very well and continues tomorrow.

...Reminder: contest, in which you can make your own custom remix of the Rivers Cuomo track "My Brain Is Working Overtime",
on Indaba.com! "...Rivers is now offering the Indaba community the accapella and instrumental tracks for the song "My Brain Is Working Overtime" and wants to hear you complete, reimagine, and fully-realize the potential of this home recording..." -WEEZER.COM

After a successful two-year start-up, Motley Crue's Crue Fest may take a year off in order to allow the band to record its next album.

"We have about a month left (of this year's Crue Fest 2) and then we're going to be taking quite a bit of time off," Crue bassist Nikki Sixx tells Billboard.com. "I feel like we're ending being out for quite a long time, touring and 'Saints of Los Angeles' and the Carnival of Sins (tour) and 'Red, White & Crue'...really going away on a big high to start working on writing a new record and looking forward to the next Crue Fest, which'll probably be in 2011."

But Sixx adds that there's a possibility that future Crue Fests could even hit the road without the namesake band on the bill.

"There have been offers and from suggestions of other bands that were interesting in going out and doing Crue Fest if we didn't do it," Sixx says. "It's growing into something. It's more of a community than just about Motley Crue, which in the end is a really good feeling. There might be a day we don't do it, a year we're working on something else and somebody comes in and says 'We want to do it.' We've heard there's interest. It might be a bit young and premature to do that now, but it's nice to hear it."

The Crue Fest concept has been expanded this year to include a second stage, while Motley Crue is closing each stop by performing its 1989 album "Dr. Feelgood" in its entirety. The tour ends Sept. 5 in Darien Lake, N.Y.

As for the next Crue album, the follow-up to 2008's "Saints of Los Angeles," Sixx says he's "been plugging along, writing" new material, and that bandmates Mick Mars and Tommy Lee have told him they have some ideas as well. All four members, including frontman Vince Neil, are also working on solo projects -- Sixx with his Sixx:AM and Lee with a reconstituted Methods of Mayhem -- but the bassist says those often yield music for the Crue as well.

"Any time any of us are writing, that always comes up," says Sixx, who's also expanding his clothing line, Royal Underground, as well as the Eleven Seven record label. "I was actually working on something the other day for Sixx:AM and immediately was like, 'This is so Motley...' It's an interesting process; it can take anywhere from six months to a year, but the good news is there's no rush, y'know?" -BILLBOARD.COM

Stonesour/Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor will get hitched to his fiancee Stephanie in November 2009. This will be Taylor's second marriage.

Taylor told Daily Star on August 4, "I'm getting married on November 13 and a couple of the guys from [Slipknot] will be there.

"My fiancée has worked in entertainment for five to six years so she comes on tour with me.

"All I need to do on the day is turn up and look half decent."

Video footage of Corey and his wife-to-be during a recent appearance on the nationally syndicated "Loveline" radio show with hosts Stryker and Dr. Drew Pinsky can be viewed below.

Taylor, 35, has two children: A daughter named Angie, born in 1992, and a son named Griffin, born in 2002, whom he had with his first wife, Scarlett.

Taylor divorced Scarlett -- whom he married on March 11, 2004 in a small ceremony at the Botanical center in Des Moines, Iowa -- in early 2007. In the November 2008 issue of Revolver magazine, he is quoted as saying, "After I got sober, I realized my relationship wasn't right for me. My wife and I had damaged each other too much."

Over the weekend, Velvet Revolver/ ex- Guns N Roses guitarist Slash issued the following statement:

"I don't know how I'm supposed to wait until next year to put out [my recently completed solo] record! It is so f***ing cool and I am so anxious to get it out already. We start mixing soon and that will be that, ready to go. But I have to wait, there's no way around it, for all kinds of logistic reasons and that's the reality.

"My Velvet Revolver bandmates and I had a meeting a couple of weeks ago and although the search for a [new] singer will continue, I am going to tour on my solo record most likely through next
summer starting in March or April. We will keep the word of mouth system going and listening to submissions from singers and checking out different singers' sites etc. We know the right guy is out there somewhere. It's possible somebody could turn up before I do my tour and we could start working on new material sooner than later, in a perfect world.

"As far as my tour is concerned, I have already started to put together ideas for a kick-ass band and the plan is to perform some new stuff, [SLASH's] Snakepit, Velver Revolver and GUNS stuff. The new album is really great and deserves that I should support it. Plus, I'm really looking forward to getting out there and doing some gigs; it's been more than a year since I was on a proper tour and all these one-off jams are basically just a tease.

"So, there's the update for now. I'm still tinkering away on the solo record, but there really isn't much left to do on it but mix it, which starts in September."

Slash tracked his solo record with former Nine Inch Nails drummer Josh Freese and ex-Jane's Addiction bassist Chris Chaney. Confirmed guest singers so far include Ozzy Osbourne and Avenged Sevenfold's M. Shadows. The CD was produced by Eric Valentine (GOOD CHARLOTTE, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE) and features additional appearances by ex-GNR drummer Steven Adler and Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea. Freese told MusicRadar.com that Iggy Pop, Fergie (a.k.a. Stacy Ann Ferguson) of the Black Eyed Peas and Chris Cornell (Soundgarden / Audioslave) will also appear on the LP. Working songtitles include "We're All Gonna Die", "These Last Words", "Crucify The Dead" and "Beautiful, Dangerous". -BLABBERMOUTH.NET

To follow up on yesterday's Rock Report; Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler has broken his shoulder after falling off the stage during a concert on the veteran rock band's ill-starred summer tour, an insider said on Thursday.

Tyler, 61, also received stitches in his head and back following Wednesday's mishap in South Dakota, according to a Twitter message sent by Billie Perry, the wife of Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry.

"Yes he is very sore," she wrote, adding that there was no word yet on when the tour would resume.

Tyler accidentally stepped backward off a catwalk while performing "Love in an Elevator" for thousands of motorbike aficionados attending an annual gathering at Buffalo Chip Campground in the town of Sturgis.

The concert -- at the midway point when the accident occurred -- was stopped, and Tyler was airlifted to a hospital. Perry's Twitter message said he would see his own doctor soon, and that his bandmates have returned to their Boston base.

The band was forced last month to postpone seven shows after Tyler hurt his leg muscle. But the trek was troubled before it even kicked off almost two months ago.

Guitarist Brad Whitford, 57, missed the first few shows while recovering from surgery after hitting his head while getting out of his Ferrari. Then, bass player Tom Hamilton, a 57-year-old cancer survivor, left the tour to undergo what a spokeswoman described as "noninvasive surgery." He has not yet returned.

Aerosmith rose to fame in the early 1970s staking their claim as America's answer to the Rolling Stones. Tyler, who models his stage swagger on Mick Jagger, teamed with Perry to write such memorable tunes as "Walk This Way," "Back in the Saddle" and "Same Old Song and Dance."

But their fortunes had faded by 1979 when heavy drug use splintered the band. Aerosmith enjoyed an unlikely resurgence in 1986 when the hip-hop trio Run DMC covered "Walk This Way," a pioneering combination of rock and rap. The song's success prompted the band to get clean and hit the comeback trail with the help of outside songwriters and popular music videos.  -BILLBOARD.COM

Aerosmith cut their performance at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota short last night after frontman Steven Tyler fell off the stage and was airlifted to the hospital. Tyler suffered minor head and neck injuries as well as a shoulder injury, the AP reports. Tyler's fall came after the sound system at the Buffalo Chip Campground failed during "Love in an Elevator." Trying to keep the crowd enthused, Tyler began dancing and spinning on the catwalk, but ultimately fell backwards into crowd. Security and audience members rushed to help Tyler, who was then brought backstage.

"I've never seen that happen before. But you could kind of see it coming because he was dancing all over the stage," audience member Lance Yellow Robe, who was standing eight feet from the stage, told the Rapid City Journal. At around 12:15 a.m., with Tyler still backstage, guitarist Joe Perry told the crowd that his "brother-in-arms" was en route to the hospital and the abbreviated concert was done. Mike Sanborn, the spokesperson for the Buffalo Chip, told the AP that Tyler was "good-natured" about the whole incident. "He was in good spirits when he got in the helicopter. He was talking and joking with the physician," Sanborn said.

As Rock Daily reported last month, Aerosmith postponed seven shows after Tyler injured his hamstring while performing in concert on June 29th. Tyler's leg injury delayed the return of guitarist Brad Whitford, who missed the entire tour up to that point after he required surgery for bumping his head while exiting his Ferrari. Once Whitford returned, however, bassist Tom Hamilton was forced to miss a string of shows due to "non-invasive" surgery. No word yet how Tyler's most recent injuries will affect the upcoming Canadian stretch of Aerosmith's injury-plagued tour. -ROLLINGSTONE.COM

Atlantic recording group Shinedown has announced details of its upcoming headline tour. The much-anticipated dates will kick off on September 10th at Baltimore's Powerplant Live.

The tour carries on the sensational success of Shinedown's RIAA gold certified third album, "THE SOUND OF MADNESS." The acclaimed collection is highlighted by the #1 smash, "Second Chance," currently standing atop the Hot AC airplay ranking for the eighth consecutive week. The Jacksonville, Florida-based quartet's biggest crossover hit to date, "Second Chance" has also topped the charts at both Active Rock and Mainstream, while reaching the top 5 at CHR/Top 40 outlets nationwide. After dominating the rock charts, the track's mainstream success has seen the band's profile raised dramatically -- People magazine recently featured the band while Entertainment Weekly highlighted "Second Chance" in its "10 Songs of Summer" playlist by noting, "Every summer needs its shamelessly histrionic big-blast-chorus crossover from the modern-rock charts. Shinedown win this year's prize." The band will be performing "Second Chance" on NBC's "The Today Show," airing Friday, September 4.

In addition, the RIAA platinum certified single's companion video has proven equally popular. The clip -- directed by Ryan Smith (Eminem, Breaking Benjamin) -- is presently in "Heavy" rotation at MTV and MTV Hits, "Elite 8" rotation at MTV2, and "X-Large" rotation at VH1, where it has gone to #1 on the network's Top 20 Countdown numerous times.

As if all that weren't enough, Shinedown's most recent single, "The Sound of Madness," continues to ring out at radio outlets across the country. The track currently stands at #2 at Mainstream, Alternative, and Active Rock, where it previously reached the #1 position. With the album's lead-off single, "Devour," also going to the top of the charts, Shinedown has earned the distinction of having all three singles from "THE SOUND OF MADNESS" become #1 Active Rock smashes. What's more, the success of "The Sound Of Madness" marks Shinedown's tenth consecutive top 10 showing at the format.

The next single from "THE SOUND OF MADNESS" will be "If You Only Knew," slated to ship to Active Rock, Alternative Rock, and Hot AC radio outlets in late August. A companion video clip is currently in pre-production.

Shinedown -- who recently performed "Second Chance" on CBS' "The Early Show Saturday Edition" and NBC's "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" -- is currently traveling the country as part of the "Stimulate This!" tour, set to run through late August. The four-band bill -- also featuring fellow Atlantic artists Staind and Halestorm, along with Chevelle -- was designed to offer hard rock fans maximum value at a minimal price. In a show of solidarity for their fans, Shinedown and their tourmates have worked closely with the concert promoters to create a package of exceptional value for ticket buyers. Through their collective efforts, base ticket prices for "Stimulate This!" remain mostly under $40 each -- half the cost of comparable multi-band summer tour packages -- with some venues offering lawn seats for less than $10.

Produced by multiple Grammy award winner Rob Cavallo (Kid Rock, Green Day), "THE SOUND OF MADNESS" debuted at #8 on the Billboard 200 upon its release last summer. In addition to enjoying their biggest domestic cross-over success, the album also marks the dynamic hard rock band's first foray into the international marketplace, where it has been met with incredible enthusiasm, particularly in the UK: "Shinedown deliver monster ballads Bon Jovi would be proud of," decreed Metal Hammer, "and there's an angsty crunch that can comfortably kick Disturbed's arse." "There's little doubt that Shinedown are among the most exciting new bands around," declared Classic Rock, while Kerrang! praised singer Brent Smith as "simply a masterful entertainer and frontman, a star."

Fueled by the ecstatic popular and critical response, Shinedown recently crossed the Atlantic for a major European tour, including performances at such world famous festivals as England's Download Festival, Germany's Rock am Ring and Rock im Park, and the Netherlands' Pinkpop. Following the tour, Kerrang! again waxed ecstatic: "The Florida quintet receive a headliners welcome for a set that combines pummeling metal riffery with suitable hooky choruses and a sense of showmanship straight out of the Aerosmith/Guns N' Roses school of rock."

"THE SOUND OF MADNESS" follows the band's RIAA platinum certified 2003 debut "LEAVE A WHISPER" and its gold certified 2005 follow-up, "US AND THEM." Both albums have yielded a staggering seven consecutive top 5 radio hits, including "Fly From the Inside," "45," and the chart-topping "Save Me."

Shinedown is Brent Smith (vocals), Barry Kerch (drums), Zach Myers (guitars), and Eric Bass (bass).
