American rock band ALTER BRIDGE has inked a deal with Roadrunner Records for all territories except North America. The group's third album, "AB III", will be released on October 8. The CD was produced by Michael "Elvis" Baskette, who has previously worked with CHEVELLE and RATT.

Mark Tremonti, songwriter/guitarist, commented "There is a real sense of excitement in the ALTER BRIDGE camp to be able to partner-up with Roadrunner. With their proven track record worldwide and the hard work we have put in touring internationally, it seems like the perfect combination." Wally van Middendorp, Roadrunner's Senior VP International, added, "I am extremely pleased that we have added ALTER BRIDGE to our international artist roster and I am confident the band will reach the next level with their upcoming record."

"AB III" track listing:

01. Slip To The Void
02. Isolation
03. Ghost Of Days Gone By
04. All Hope Is Gone
05. Still Remains
06. Make It Right
07. Wonderful Life
08. I Know It Hurts
09. Show Me A Sign
10. Fallout
11. Breathe Again
12. Coeur D'Alene
13. Life Must Go On
14. Words Darker Than Their Wings

Lead singer Myles Kennedy told The Pulse of Radio that the follow-up to 2007's "Blackbird" will be a "darker" effort. "There is certainly a common thread throughout the, almost the entire record," he said. "It's lyrically a pretty dark album, probably the darkest record I've been a part of. Just a lot of questions personally that I had over the last few years, just things I was struggling with, and it was a very cathartic record for me, just to kind of get that all out. I mean, that's generally the way I personally like to write lyrics, for things that are honest and from the heart."

Kennedy also spoke to The Pulse of Radio about how he and and his bandmates approached the new album from a songwriting perspective. "There's a certain spontaneity to this record basically because of the fact that we arranged it in a much shorter period of time and the way we tend to write, it's very part-oriented," he said. "Mark and I will basically stockpile musical ideas and melodic ideas. And then it's kind of like putting a puzzle together. So we get together with Brian [Marshall, bass] and Scott [Philips, drums/keyboards] and we get everything to gel together in the context of the arrangement. There is certainly a common thread throughout the, almost the entire record," he said.

ALTER BRIDGE plans to hit the road in October after the album is out, starting with a European tour.

A spring 2011 supporting slot with GODSMACK is planned for next March.

Kennedy is currently touring with Slash as his live lead vocalist, after singing two numbers on the guitarist's debut solo album.

The instrumental members of ALTER BRIDGE are touring this summer in their other band, CREED. -blabbermouth.net

Fuse On Demand recently caught up with some of the heavy hitters of the rock and metal community -- including Rob Zombie and members of FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, GODSMACK, LIMP BIZKIT and PAPA ROACH -- and asked them to their share their memories of legendary heavy metal vocalist Ronnie James Dio -- best known for his work with BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW and his own band DIO.

A clip from the episode can be viewed below.

Watch the full tribute all September long only on Fuse On Demand.

Dio died of stomach cancer on the morning of May 16, at the age of 67.

He was renowned throughout the world as one of the greatest and most influential vocalists in heavy metal history.

The singer, who was recording and touring with SABBATH offshoot HEAVEN & HELL prior to his illness, was diagnosed with stomach cancer late last year. He underwent chemotherapy and made what is now his final public appearance in April at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards in Los Angeles.

HEAVEN & HELL earlier in the year canceled summer tour plans because Dio was not going to be well enough to tour.

The band released a new studio album in 2009, titled "The Devil You Know".

Ronnie James Dio, real name Ronald James Padavona, was born in New Hampshire on July 10, 1942.

He moved to Cortland, New York at a young age, where he began playing with local acts. A street in Cortland, Dio Way, was named after him in 1988.

He released his first single, with a band called RONNIE AND THE REDCAPS, in 1959.

His first heavy rock act, ELF, released three albums and opened for DEEP PURPLE, where Dio's voice caught the ear of guitarist Ritchie Blackmore. Blackmore recruited Dio for his own band, RAINBOW, after leaving PURPLE in 1975.

Dio recorded three studio albums and one live set with RAINBOW before exiting in 1978, including "Rising" and "Long Live Rock And Roll".

He replaced Ozzy Osbourne in BLACK SABBATH in 1980, recording the "Heaven & Hell" and "Mob Rules" albums, plus "Live Evil", before leaving in 1982. He rejoined the group 10 years later for an album called "Dehumanizer", and again teamed with the group under the HEAVEN & HELL banner in 2006.

He has also recorded 10 studio albums with his own band, DIO, including a classic 1983 debut, "Holy Diver".

Dio was also behind the HEAR N' AID project, a collection of metal artists who recorded the track "Stars" in 1985 to raise funds for African famine relief.

Papa Roach have released their latest album, Time For Annihilation...On the Record and On the Road (track listing below) via new label Eleven Seven Music today.  The band's album is a unique hybrid listening experience, which showcases new material produced by David Bendeth (Paramore, Breaking Benjamin, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus) as well as live renditions of past hits.

With the release of this record, the band continue their long term commitment to WhyHunger, raising funds and awareness for the 49 million Americans and more than 1 billion people worldwide who are hungry.  The band included a hidden track on the record, a first in philanthropy, to encourage fans to text to donate as they do live in concert.  In addition, the band will be visiting the Los Angeles Mission food bank as volunteers to celebrate their album release and continued partnership with WhyHunger.  On their upcoming tour dates, the band will be auctioning off VIP experiences with all proceeds going to WhyHunger.

Jacoby Shaddix said, "We wanted to use the press we were doing around the album to help raise awareness for the cause, we made a commitment to WhyHunger and are just as passionate about it as we are the music. We want to make sure we walk the walk and not just talk the talk, hopefully it inspires people to do the same."

The hard-hitting Sacramento natives have again cracked the Top 10 with their new single "Kick In The Teeth", which is currently holding down the #7 slot on the active rock chart and #19 on the alternative chart with no sign of slowing down.  In a review of the single, Billboard wrote, "Kick In The Teeth" may be its (Papa Roach's) most rousing anthem yet."  With over 8 million records sold, Papa Roach has produced multi-format hits on every album they have released over the past ten years, proving their longevity and relevance throughout.  With Time for Annihilation...On The Record and On The Road, Papa Roach bring together what they do best by delivering a highly energetic entertainment package for fans old and new alike.

Papa Roach continues to fortify their reputation as one of the best live bands regardless of genre and recently electrified the 100,000 plus audience at this year's Sonisphere festival in the UK with an explosive performance of which Metal Hammer said, "The Roach are sensational for every second they are onstage.  P Roach came, saw and kicked everyone's ass."  In addition, ESPN is using the lead track throughout the network's programming for the entire month of August to pump up the excitement of their comprehensive sports coverage including this year's summer X-Games.  Continuing its energizing force, Papa Roach and Monster Energy have partnered in an online contest for fans to submit user-generated extreme sports clips which will be cut together as a new video for "Kick in the Teeth."

The band recently announced plans to join forces with Skillet and destroy crowds across the US with their Monsters of Annihilation tour beginning October 1st in Myrtle Beach, SC at The House of Blues. PANTERA found its growl and groove on "Cowboys From Hell", a landmark album whose bone-powdering intensity, razor-sharp riffing and pummeling rhythmic assault represented a turning point in modern metal when it was released in 1990. More than just PANTERA's major label debut, many consider this album to be the official debut of the PANTERA lineup with singer Philip Anselmo, guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, his brother, drummer Vinnie Paul and bassist Rex Brown.

To celebrate the 20-year anniversary of "Cowboys From Hell", Rhino rounds up a three-disc "Ultimate Edition," a three-disc "Deluxe Edition," and a two-disc "Expanded Edition." All three editions include a newly remastered version of the original album along with unreleased and rare live performances from the "Cowboys From Hell" tour. The "Ultimate" and "Deluxe" editions will also feature a disc of unreleased demos for nearly every album track, plus, "The Will To Survive", a previously unreleased song recorded during the album's sessions.

"'The Will To Survive' is a great track. With so many killer songs, it was hard to pick and choose the ones that should make our major label debut," says Vinnie Paul. "After hearing it for the first time in about 20 years, it's a pretty stellar performance and I am definitely proud that it will see the light of day for all the die-hard PANTERA fans around the world! It shows the true musical diversity of the band at that time!"

The "Deluxe" and "Expanded" editions of "Cowboys From Hell" will be released September 14 at all retail outlets, including pantera.com
and rhino.com . The "Deluxe Edition" will be available for a suggested list price of $29.98 (physical) and $17.99 (digital) and the "Expanded Edition" for $19.98 (physical) and $12.99 (digital).

The "Ultimate Edition" will feature all three discs included in the "Deluxe Edition" and will be housed in an intricate box including several replica memorabilia pieces from the "Cowboys" era. The "Ultimate Edition" will be available on November 23 and final pre-order details, as well as the contents, will be unveiled soon on PANTERA's Facebook page.

Along with the remastered version of "Cowboys From Hell", all three sets include a disc of live music recorded during the tour for the album. It begins with seven unreleased performances from PANTERA's September 15, 1990 appearance at the Foundations Forum metal convention in California, a show recorded for radio broadcast but never released commercially. The remainder of the disc contains the five-song EP "Alive And Hostile", a collection of performances recorded in 1991 at the Monsters of Rock festival in Moscow that was previously available only in Australia as part of a 1994 boxed set.

The "Ultimate" and "Deluxe" editions of "Cowboys From Hell" include a third disc that contains the previously unreleased "The Will To Survive", along with demos for 10 of the album's 12 songs, including early versions of the title track "Psycho Holiday", "The Art Of Shredding" and "Cemetery Gates".

After being turned down "twenty-eight times by every major label on the face of the earth," ATCO Records A&R rep Mark Ross saw the band when Hurricane Hugo stranded him in Texas. The rest, as they say, is history, including another seven years and over a million miles of touring for "Cowboys" to be certified platinum (one million album sales) by the RIAA.

The album's liner notes include essays by each of the band's surviving members, producer Terry Date, and the aforementioned Ross. Recalling the first time he saw PANTERA, Ross writes, "By the end of the first song, my jaw was on the floor. The sonic power of it all -- the attitude and the musicianship -- blew me away. Basically, you had to be an idiot to not think they're amazing. I mean, how could you see these guys and not think, Holy shit!?"

Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland had a mean fall off an elevated stage in Cincinnati's PNC Pavilion last week (Aug. 25).

The singer plummeted into the camera pit during the group's performance, and it took a minute for a pair of hefty security men to lift him back up. Still, Weiland appeared unharmed from the fall and, like the rock star he is, went on to finish the rest of the set.

One website got a hold of fan filmed video of the incident and offered the opinion that Weiland might be lip synching in concert because he continues to sing after he fell down, others counter that he simply continued to sing.

Antiquiet posted a story and video of the fall and commented that Weiland's vocals continued while Scott was down, thus raising a suspicion that he might be lip synching, but they also noted that it does not necessarily prove that he was.

STP's management released a statement that Weiland was not lip synching. Rock Radio reported that Weiland was not singing at the moment of the fall but was heard while he was off the stage, leading others to speculate that he simply continued singing while he was down like hennemusic who reported, "Weiland didn't miss a beat or a line, continuing to sing while in the pit."

What do you think? Watch fan filmed footage of the fall below:

Even Carlos Santana knows they don't write 'em like that anymore.

On his upcoming album Guitar Heaven, the 63-year-old Grammy-winning picker foregoes new material for a classic-rock hit parade of six-string workouts.

Another collaboration with Supernatural producer and music industry mogul Clive Davis, the CD includes a generation-spanning set list of standards, from Woodstock-era fare by Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix and Cream to '70s and '80s rockers from Deep Purple, AC/DC and Def Leppard. Each cut has been filtered through Santana's hard-grooving Latin-rock approach and comes equipped with a VIP guest vocalist (see full list below).

The CD is due in stores and online on Sept. 21, but Wednesday in Sin City, Santana and his band will play several cuts from the album live at The Joint nightclub in the Hard Rock Cafe. Guest vocalists India.Arie, Gavin Rossdale and Chris Daughtry are slated to join him onstage at the high-volume, high-profile event.

Photograph | Def Leppard (feat. Chris Daughtry)

Metallica has issued the following statement about the "Big Four" show in Bulgaria being released on DVD:

"From Bulgaria to your local theatre to your living room or wherever you might enjoy a little live metal on the screen. You may have heard us say something about a DVD at the end of the satellite broadcast or read it in the internet rumor mill. it's true, there will be a DVD release of the Big 4 show from Sofia, Bulgaria!! We had such an awesome time hanging with Anthrax, Megadeth and Slayer and the cameras were already rolling, so why not?

"Here's the scoop: The DVD hits the streets on October 15 in Northern Europe, October 18 in most of the rest of the world, October 19 in North America and the full shows from all four bands will be included in the two disc set along with behind the scenes and interview footage. In addition to the two DVD set and the corresponding Blu-ray, there will be a limited edition 'super deluxe' box set including the DVD set, five CD's with ALL the music, a 24 page booklet, a poster, photos of each band, and a Big 4 guitar pick. The clever title of the DVD is 'The Big 4 Live From Sofia, Bulgaria' (yes, that's really it!!) and you if you're interested in the box set, we'll have a pre-order in the Metallica Store for you shortly." -metalunderground.com

SYSTEM OF A DOWN frontman Serj Tankian already has several other projects lined up in addition to the release of his second album, "Imperfect Harmonies", which is due September 21 on Serjical Strike/Reprise Records. His musical "Prometheus Bound" is scheduled to open in March 2011 at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and he's also finishing up a "classical jazz symphony" that he hopes to premiere next year. The forthcoming year may also find Tankian publishing a second poetry book, "Glaring Through Oblivion", and starting work on a nonfiction title.

Tankian has postponed the street date of "Imperfect Harmonies" in order to package the recording in the same tree-free paper he has used for his previous release, "Elect the Dead". The eco-friendly paper was not available to create the packaging for "Imperfect Harmonies" in time to make the previously announced street date of September 7.

"Imperfect Harmonies" is the second solo released from the SYSTEM OF A DOWN frontman, following up his critically acclaimed 2007 solo debut, "Elect the Dead". As with "Elect the Dead", Tankian produced "Imperfect Harmonies" himself at his home studio in Los Angeles.

"Where 'Elect the Dead' was essentially a rock record with progressive melodic elements," Tankian says, "'Imperfect Harmonies' could be classified as rock because it is punchy with many peaks throughout, but the instrumentation is somewhat different. Though there are live drums, bass, and some guitars, the driving aspects are electronic and orchestral. It's quite unique in its sound palette. This is, in essence, music that has sat in the vat and matured to a ripe sensation and is now ready to serve."

"Imperfect Harmonies" is as powerful and musically eclectic as its predecessor. "I have been calling the music 'electro-orchestral-jazz-rock' because it has all of those aspects in prominence within the songs," Tankian says. "A few are more stripped down, but the majority of the songs have this huge wall of sound presented in a way I've never heard before. It's not common to have a song that is both electronic and orchestral since one is synthetic and the other organic, but I found a way of meshing a lot of these colors together."

The album has been influenced by Tankian's experience making "Elect the Dead Symphony", a symphonic interpretation of his debut that had its inaugural performance in New Zealand with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra in March 2009. The performance has been captured on the CD/DVD "Elect the Dead Symphony". "The making of 'Elect the Dead Symphony' gave me the confidence and tools to create ensemble pieces for orchestra more confidently and effectively than before," Tankian says. "And that became one of the primary colors for this record along with electronic, jazz, and live instrumentation." -blabbermouth.net

SLIPKNOT headlined the annual Download festival in the U.K., performing in front of 80,000 of their rabid fans. The performance was absolutely electric, in typical SLIPKNOT fashion, especially since it came hot on the heels of one of the strongest years in SLIPKNOT's illustrious career.

It was indeed a year of "firsts" for a band that was a decade-deep into their hard rock superstardom and dominance.Their latest album, 2008's "All Hope is Gone", debuted at #1 on The Billboard 200 chart -- the first time in their history. SLIPKNOT embarked on a two-year touring trek that was globally successful, playing to packed houses across continents, including their headlining stint at New York City's legendary Madison Square Garden, which was stacked to the rafters and chronicled by Rolling Stone.

It makes perfect sense that the band, known for their eclectic DVD collection, ranging from multi-camera angle concert documents to arthouse-style films, would release "(sic)nesses", which captures a special performance at Download. All SLIPKNOT shows are memorable, but this one is particularly memorable, as the band blasted through hits from all of their platinum albums. On stage is SLIPKNOT in its most natural state and "(sic)nesses" will put you in the front row.

30 cameras were on hand to capture every possible angle of the band as they motored through their parade of hits; the cameras also caught the fans on tape, as they are just as crucial an element of a SLIPKNOT show as the band members themselves.

Perhaps most importantly, "(sic)nesses" is one of the final major performances for founding member Paul Gray, who tragically passed away in May 2010. While initially unintended, the concert is a testament to the legacy of Gray, where fans can enjoy a lasting glimpse of the bassist doing what he loved most.

Additionally, the DVD also includes a 45-minute behind the scenes documentary created by band percussionist Clown, as well as all four music videos from the "All Hope Is Gone" cycle.

Lastly, "All Hope is Gone" has gained platinum status, capping off a passionate, turbulent and ultimately unforgettable album cycle.

It seems like Slayer is doing whatever they can this year to make their fans especially happy. After the Big Four got their collective thrash on a while back, now comes the time for a release. And while it's not a new album (hey, you just got World Painted Blood last year!), it is almost as good: an all vinyl box set--Yeah, we thought that'd get your attention.

The Vinyl Conflict will feature 10 albums (Reign In Blood, South of Heaven, Seasons In The Abyss, Decade of Aggression [a double LP], Divine Intervention, Undisputed Attitude, God Hates Us All, Christ Illusion, and World Painted Blood) on 11 discs. Each effort has been remastered and will be printed on 180-gram audiophile vinyl. As well, each album will feature its original artwork converted to 12X12 inserts. Enjoy a shot of the set in all its glory below. And if that weren't enough, according to the PR Newswire, the band's in-concert DVDs (Live Intrusion, War at the Warfield, and Still Reigning) will be released individually and as a box set starting today. Despite the beards and devil music, Slayer truly loves you.

The Vinyl Conflict will hit stores October 12th. The band is currently on tour with Megadeth and Anthrax on the American Carnage Your through September 4th.

JANE'S ADDICTION will appear in the second episode of "Guitar Center Sessions", a high-definition 3D television series for DirecTV. The program will air sometime in September (exact date to be announced).

JANE'S ADDICTION's appearance on "Guitar Center Sessions" was taped in May 2010 and featured the band performing a handful of songs and taking part in an interview with the show's host. According to JanesAddiction.org, the band discussed its roots, past breakups, the addition of bassist Duff McKagan (VELVET REVOLVER, GUNS N' ROSES), writing new songs and much more. The live performances included semi-acoustic versions of "Ain't No Right", "Been Caught Stealing", "Jane Says", "City" (marks the first time since 1988 that the guys performed this track) and a new song called "Broken People".

"With 'Guitar Center Sessions' we feel that we've created an opportunity that will inspire and help musicians," Dustin Hinz, Director of Music and Entertainment Marketing for Guitar Center, said in a press release.

"For the show it was key that we create an intimate environment," he added. "The audience . . . makes this a unique television experience geared towards helping musicians become better at their craft."

JANE'S ADDICTION has tapped Rich Costey as producer for the band's next album, tentatively due out in the winter of 2011 on Capitol.

Costey's extensive experience in the studio includes album production for such bands as MUSE and FRANZ FERDINAND as well as having studio credits for engineering, programming and mixing for WEEZER, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE, DOVES and JURASSIC 5, among others.

JANE'S ADDICTION -- which wrote the rule book for alternative music and culture through a combination of genre-defying classic songs and a cinematic live experience -- is now in Los Angeles working on the new CD, having returned from potent concerts overseas in at the Gelredome in The Netherlands June 9 (with RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE and GOGOL BORDELLO) and Rock In Rio in Madrid, Spain June 11 (with RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE and CYPRESS HILL). -blabbermouth.net

Billy Corgan, lead singer of The Smashing Pumpkins rock band, was "moving slow" after he blacked out and collapsed on stage during a concert in Tampa, Fla.,

After the fall Wednesday evening while he performed the band's "Bullet With Butterfly Wings" song, a resilient Corgan was up and back on stage minutes later to do 11 more songs.

"For those that saw me fall last night ... that wasn't a stage move or clumsiness, that was me blacking out and wiping out," Corgan, 43 tweeted Thursday.

"I have no memory of falling against the drum riser and my guitar cabinet, but I can tell you I've got quite a good bruise + am moving slow," he wrote.

The Grammy-award winning band is currently touring the U.S. to promote their latest album "Teargarden by Kaleidyscope."

Despite Corgan's medical mishap, the band is still scheduled to perform Friday in Knoxville, Tennessee. -myfoxny.com

According to The Pulse of Radio, SLIPKNOT drummer Joey Jordison, who's out touring with ROB ZOMBIE, has confirmed that the band will continue making music despite the death in May of bassist Paul Gray. While SLIPKNOT is only in the very earliest stages of planning its next record, Jordison says they've already decided they will not recruit a new bassist: "There will be no other bass players besides Jim [Root, guitarist], Mick [Thomson, guitarist] and me, more than likely. Everyone actually kind of plays guitar in the band, so I think we're all gonna play bass on the record. We're not gonna have anyone come in. But live, we'll deal with that when it comes."

A new SLIPKNOT album is not likely to come out until 2012 at the earliest.

Jordison is touring with Zombie and releasing a new album from his side band, MURDERDOLLS, next month.

Singer Corey Taylor and guitarist Jim Root also have a new album due out in September from their other act, STONE SOUR, called "Audio Secrecy".

Gray's body was found on May 24th in a suburban hotel room outside Des Moines, Iowa. A medical examiner ruled that the 38-year-old died of an accidental overdose of morphine and a synthetic form of morphine. -blabbermouth.net

According to The Pulse of Radio, GODSMACK frontman Sully Erna has set September 14 as the release date for his long-in-the-works debut solo album, titled "Avalon". A first single from the disc, called "Sinner's Prayer", will arrive at rock radio stations next week. Erna finished work on the record in early 2009 but has held off on releasing it until after GODSMACK completed and issued its fifth studio album this year, called "The Oracle".

Erna told The Pulse of Radio his solo effort doesn't fit into one musical genre: "I'm not sure what category it falls in," he said. "I think ultimately, you know, it's somewhat of a rock record, but it's not really a rock record. It's very eclectic and it's very spiritual and it's very hypnotic and primitive. It'll be interesting to see how the public reacts to it. But all in all, people I have played it for so far have been honestly blown away by it."

GODSMACK has scattered dates lined up for the rest of this summer, including August 7 at Rock On The Range Canada in Winnipeg; August 9 in Sturgis, South Dakota at the annual Sturgis Bike Rally; and August 14 in Madison, Wisconsin.

A full tour is in the works for either fall or early 2011.

The band's fifth studio album, "The Oracle", debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard album chart in May with 117,000 copies sold in its first week of release.

The latest single from "The Oracle", called "Love Hate Sex Pain", follows up the chart-topping "Cryin' Like A Bitch". -blabbermouth.net

"20 Years of Tall Tales" is the title of the web series THE BLACK CROWES will roll out starting Tuesday, August 3, the street date for "Croweology" (Silver Arrow/Megaforce Records), their first-ever double album of all-acoustic material with new arrangements of their best-loved songs and deep cuts.

In a wide-ranging and freewheeling interview marking the 20th anniversary of their landmark multi-platinum debut, 1990's "Shake Your Moneymaker", frontman Chris Robinson talks about where THE BLACK CROWES -- arguably one of the most misunderstood rock bands of all time -- have been and where they are now.

Throughout the month of August, the band will release via its web site one webisode per day. It's all here: the highs, the lows, controversies, arrests, feuds and more. "20 Years of Tall Tales" was directed and produced by John Vanover and filmed earlier this month at Robinson's LA home.

* Did THE BLACK CROWES -- a band that has never played it musically or commercially safe and at times been crucified for it -- really spend $1,000,000 recording an album ("Tall") that went unreleased for more than a decade?
* What really happened in that Denver convenience store that led to Chris' arrest?
* Why was the band really fired from the Aerosmith tour before being reinstated?
* What really went on in the studio the night the band held a bacchanalia for the amorica album?
* What really drives the relationship between Chris and his brother, guitarist Rich Robinson?
* How did the union of THE BLACK CROWES and OASIS on the "Tour of Brotherly Love" actually cancel out the feuds of both bands' brothers?
* And what about the band's recently announced lengthy hiatus that will begin when their upcoming "Say Goodnight To The Bad Guys 2010" tour ends this year with an epic six-night stand in San Francisco at The Fillmore December 12-19?

Fasten your seat belts as THE BLACK CROWES -- Chris Robinson (vocals/guitar), Rich Robinson (guitar), Steve Gorman (drums), Sven Pipien (bass), Luther Dickinson (guitar) and Adam McDougall (keyboards) -- share the ride in "20 Years of Tall Tales".

"Mars Needs Women", the new video from ROB ZOMBIE, can be viewed below. Footage for the clip was compiled during the "Gruesome Twosome Tour" featuring Zombie and Alice Cooper.

In other news, the CD/DVD edition of Zombie's latest album, "Hellbilly Deluxe 2", will arrive in stores on September 28 via Roadrunner Records. The expanded version of the album will feature three brand new tracks recorded with the band's current touring lineup, including SLIPKNOT drummer/MURDERDOLLS guitarist Joey Jordison, along with a reworked version of the song "The Man Who Laughs". A bonus DVD featuring live footage and a 30-minute touring documentary, dubbed "Transylvanian Transmissions", will also be included.

"Hellbilly Deluxe 2" special-edition track listing:

CD:

01. Devil's Hole Girls And The Big Revolution (new song)
02. Jesus Frankenstein
03. Sick Bubblegum
04. What?
05. Theme Of An Angry Red Planet
06. Mars Needs Women
07. Werewolf, Baby
08. Everything Is Boring (new song)
09. Virgin Witch
10. Death And Destiny Inside the Dream Factory
11. Burn
12. Cease To Exist

15. The Man Who Laughs

DVD:

01. Mars Needs Women
02. School's Out (ALICE COOPER cover) (feat. Alice Cooper)
03. Transylvanian Transmissions

ROB ZOMBIE and ALICE COOPER will join forces for the "Halloween Hootenanny" tour in September/October. Support on the trek will come from MURDERDOLLS.

Rob Zombie's fourth solo album, "Hellbilly Deluxe 2", debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard album chart on February 10, selling 49,000 copies in its first week of release. That total is less than 50 percent of the number of copies that his previous effort, "Educated Horses", sold in its first week back in April 2006, when it moved 107,000 copies to land at No. 5 on the chart.

Zombie was originally supposed to issue the album last November through his longtime label, Geffen Records, but delayed its arrival to February 2 after abruptly leaving to sign with the Roadrunner label. He admitted to The Pulse of Radio that he was a little unsure at first whether that was the right thing to do. "Well, I mean, it was weird because at first you think like, well, you know, you're on Geffen, do you want to make the switch, should you just change next time on the next record, you know, just ride out what you started," he said. "I struggled with it but I thought, you know, my gut is telling me this is the thing to do because I have a feeling if I put it out in November, the label's not gonna support it, and by December the record will be dead. And I just said, you know, screw it. Whatever the repercussions, let's just do it."  -blabbermouth.net

Vocalist Klaus Meine and guitarist Rudolf Schenker were interviewed by the Scorpions.gr web site prior to the band's May 8, 2010 concert at Olympiahalle in Munich, Germany. Watch the chat in two parts below.

According to Billboard.biz, SCORPIONS recently signed an exclusive publishing deal with BMG Rights Management in Berlin.

This agreement includes the rights to the current album "Sting in the Tail"  which has already gone gold in several countries.

BMG already has 100 songs by the SCORPIONS, including the band's biggest hit, "Wind of Change".

"We believe that by signing with BMG, we have found a reliable and international partner who will help us exploit our musical works worldwide," lawyer and SCORPIONS manager Peter F. Amend said in a statement.

BLS front man/guitarist Zakk Wylde has confirmed a one-off special event at HMP Stocken in Stretton, Leicestershire, as part of their anti-violence/anti-bullying campaign. Wylde will give a solo performance and hold a Q&A session with approximately 60 inmates.

Performing at the prison holds particular meaning for Wylde, as his debut with OZZY OSBOURNE - whom he went on to play with for more than two decades - also took place at a prison, back in 1987. Coming full circle, July 22 marks the 23-year anniversary of that event.

In Autumn 2009, Officer Kevin Oakes, a BLS fan employed as a prison guard, got in touch with Wylde and said how great it would be if Zakk was able to do something for the inmates at his prison here in the UK. HMP Stocken Governor Steve Turner concurred and extended an invitation. Excluding that visit with Ozzy, the legendary guitarist has only done this once before; in Singapore last December.

Black Label Society play the High Voltage festival in London on July 24. Their new album 'Order Of The Black' will be released on August 23, preceded by two digital singles - 'Parade Of The Dead' (out now) and 'Crazy Horse' (July 23). The band have also just announced a benefit concert for the St Jude Children's Hospital on August 10 at the Roxy, West Hollywood, California. Black Label Society are donating 100% of the show's proceeds to the hospital.

PEARL JAM reportedly told a crowd at a music festival in Portugal over the weekend that the band has played its "last gig" for a long time, according to NME.com. During the Optimus Alive! 10 event in Lisbon on Sunday night (July 11), singer Eddie Vedder read a few words off a sheet of paper in Portuguese in which he said, "Thank you for coming to our last show. Not our last ever, but our last in a long time."

The band played the rest of its 24-song set without Vedder saying anything further about the hiatus.

The festival concluded a run of European dates for the veteran Seattle band, which was preceded by a lengthy stretch of North American concerts in support of their ninth album, "Backspacer".

PEARL JAM drummer Matt Cameron will join his original band, SOUNDGARDEN, for a reunion show at next month's Lollapalooza festival in Chicago, with more shows expected to be confirmed.

PEARL JAM guitarist Stone Gossard's band BRAD is releasing a new album, called "Best Friends?", on August 10.

Linkin Park have announced September 13th as the official release date for new album 'A Thousand Suns'. The album is co-produced by Rick Rubin (U2, Johnny Cash) and Linkin Park vocalist Mike Shinoda. The first single 'The Catalyst' will be released on September 6th, but will be available on the band's myspace page before release.

Furthermore, prior to the release, Linkin Park and MySpace are teaming up for "Linkin Park, Featuring You," a unique promotion that gives fans a first-of-its-kind opportunity to collaborate with Linkin Park to produce their own song based on some of the tracks from the forthcoming single. The contest, which is live as of tomorrow, allows fans to use their own music production software to create a song and upload it for the band via their myspace page (myspace.com/linkinpark). The winner of the contest will have the chance to have their submission included on the band's new album or will be invited to perform with the band on a song on the upcoming record. Shinoda feels this competition will allow them to give something back to their fans: "reserving a spot for a fan to play on one of our songs felt like a way to show our dedication to them [the fans]."

The band have recently announced their upcoming European tour dates, with each of their live performances designed to be a transformative multi-media experience, complete with a unique blending of music and art and featuring never-before-seen visual technology.

Korn is once again reinventing itself and doing something completely innovative, nine albums and two decades into its incredible career. The band will perform for an hour and twenty minutes inside the mysterious crop circle that was recently revealed in the final installment of a viral web campaign. The band worked closely with longtime UK-based circle makers, circlemakers.org, on the shadowy design which features a series of intricate circles, one of which includes the iconic Korn logo, and stretches over 920 feet long and 350 feet wide. The concert event, which is a first for a rock band, takes inspiration from the eerie atmosphere of Pink Floyd's legendary "Live at Pompei." The concert will make its North American broadcast premiere on HDNet on Sunday, July 11 at 8 PM ET and will have a worldwide online premiere on Monday, July 12 via MySpace in countries all over the world.

"The setting and the mood took us into a totally new direction musically. We took the opportunity to stretch out and experiment with the performance. I don't think we'll ever be the same," said frontman Jonathan Davis.

"I felt like we were on some new frontier musically for Korn", said guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer. "This is definitely going to add a new dimension to our live shows."

Over the last month, web watchers were exposed to mysterious, unexplainable footage shot from a wheat field near Korn's native Bakersfield, California. The viral series lead many to wonder what was going on and what exactly Korn had in store for their loyal fans. Well, the time has come to find out what is really going on with these ominous "signs." The band will perform several songs from Korn III - Remember Who You Are, their new album which is due out July 13. Korn will also dip into their beloved catalog and play numerous classics and fan favorites, which certainly ups the event's "must see" status.

"We spent a lot of time fooling around in the wheat fields and corn fields surrounding Bako when we were kids, and it gets pretty spooky out there at night. That's where we got the inspiration for the whole thing, so we decided to have some fun with the viral videos," Davis also said.

Beginning this weekend, July 10, Korn will head back on the road as one of the co-headliners for the third annual Rock Star Energy Drink Mayhem Festival.

Be sure and tune into the "Krop" circle broadcast - you will not be disappointed. Here are some viral clips for your viewing pleasure:

Ever true to his word, Billy Corgan has released yet another free song from the Smashing Pumpkins' ongoing project, 'Teargarden by Kaleidyscope.'

'Freak' is the fifth song the band has released from their 44-track free project, which fans can download from the band's website. 'Freak' is also the first song that will be on their second EP, ' Teargarden by Kaleidyscope Vol. 2: The Solstice Bare,' which currently has no set release date.

Smashing Pumpkins are currently on the road and will be providing fans with "soundcheck sets" at select shows throughout the tour.

"We expect to play at least five to six songs each day," Corgan wrote on the band's website. "And if things go well possibly a little more ... No less than the first 20 people in line would be let in, and we will have some system where you wouldn't lose your place in line if you have to go back out of the building ... We hope this will be a fun experience for everyone. I know we look forward to trying some of the new material ... No audio or video taping will be allowed at these soundcheck sets, so please respect and honor our wishes on that ... If things go well, we might let in a few people more."

Staind frontman Aaron Lewis recently finished recording a country-tinged solo album, and in the coming months he'll meet with his bandmates to write the group's next album. But for now he has one main focus: to reopen his daughter's elementary school in Worthington, Mass., which recently closed due to budget cutbacks.

To help accomplish this, Lewis and his wife, Vanessa, have started the It Takes a Community Foundation a nonprofit designed to financially assist rural community groups throughout greater New England. For now Lewis is using his own money to reopen the RH Conwell Community Education Center this fall. He estimates it'll cost up to $300,000 per year to keep it open.

"When I reopen it we're going to do preschool through sixth grade and we're not turning anybody away," Lewis tells Billboard. "This town depends on the school. We have no commerce . . . We have a stoplight with a country store, and that's literally it. It's a town of 1,200 people and the only thing we have is the elementary school."

To help raise awareness of the foundation, Lewis is hosting a benefit concert on Aug. 14 at the Pines Theater at Look Park in Northampton, Mass. In addition to Lewis, the event will feature acoustic performances by Brad Arnold and Chris Henderson of
3 Doors Down, Brendan Kelly and Lo Pro.

Lewis is giving the foundation his earnings from a handful of solo acoustic performances in July. He's also looking into corporate sponsors to help support the nonprofit. In addition to helping reopen the school, the funds will be given to New England rural areas that don't have "the tax dollars or the wealth . . . to do things for the community that bring it closer together," Lewis says.

Meanwhile, Lewis says that Staind is "enjoying the tail-end of our break" from promoting and touring behind its 2008 album, "The Illusion of Progress," which has sold 379,000 copies in the United States according to Nielsen SoundScan and debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. "In November-ish, or something like that, we'll start meeting up at my barn and writing songs and recording for the next record," he says.

It's too early to tell what musical direction Staind will take on its next album, but fans can expect to hear a definite country flavor on Lewis' forthcoming debut solo album. "It's acoustic guitar based and I recorded it in Nashville with a bunch of country session musicians," he says. "So it's kind of somewhere between country and James Taylor and 'It's Been A While.'"

A release date hasn't been set for the as-yet-untitled album, but Lewis says it will be released by Atlantic Records.

The first single from the solo set is called "Country Boy" and features guest spots by Hank Williams Jr., George Jones and Charlie Daniels, according to Lewis. "I've got to say that 'Country Boy' is definitely in the stylings of 'Country Boy Can Survive' (by hank Williams jr.)," he says. "I'm not going to try and deny that correlation."

Lewis will tour behind the solo effort this fall, then "after hunting season is over, start working on the (Staind) record," he says.

Apocalyptica's new album, 7th Symphony will be released August 24th through Jive Recods.  The first single off the album is the song "End of Me" which features lead vocals from Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale

7th Symphony was produced by Joe Barresi (Coheed and Cambria, Queens of the Stone Age, Bad Religion), and is scheduled for release August 24. The album will feature eight instrumentals plus four tracks with guest vocals including the first single "End Of Me" featuring lead vocals by Bush's Gavin Rossdale. In addition, producer Howard Benson (Three Days Grace, Creed, My Chemical Romance) returns for production duties on two tracks on the forthcoming album.

The conservatory-trained musicians of Apocalyptica(three of whom are graduates of the prestigious Sibelius Academy in Helsinki) started playing Metallica covers in 1993 and in 1996 they released their critically acclaimed debut Apocalyptica Plays Metallica by Four Cellos. But it was 2007's Worlds Collidethat broke the band into an international phenomenon.  The disc featured numerous guest stars. Slipknot's Corey Taylor appeared on "I'm Not Jesus," Lacuna Coil's Cristina Scabbia sang on "S.O.S. (Anything But Love)," Rammstein vocalist Till Lindemann performed on a cover of David Bowie and Brian Eno's "Helden" and Three Days Grace Singer Adam Gontier sang his heart out on "I Don't Care." "I Don't Care" blasted Apocalyptica through the stratosphere, and peaked at number one on the Billboard rock chart. Apocalyptica promoted Worlds Collide with a world tour that included numerous stops in North America.

U.S. Tour Dates

Breaking Benjamin frontman Ben Burnley issued a statement on Tuesday (June 29th) denying that the band had broken up. Tunelab Music reported on Monday (June 28th), citing unofficial sources, that the group in its current incarnation had split, with sources saying that Burnley had told the other members of the band that he was "quitting music" and that they should seek other jobs.

Burnley's statement says, "I am officially letting everyone know that Breaking Benjamin has NOT broken up! This is just a false rumor that, through the miracle of modern technology, has unfortunately spread. I am currently taking some time off from touring to further address some health issues that I have been dealing with for some years now . . . I am performing two solo acoustic shows in July but this in no way means that I have left, or am ever going to leave, Breaking Benjamin."

Tunelab Music stands by its original story, while the band's label publicist has also adamantly denied that the band has split.

Tunelab wrote that the official Breaking Benjamin website, shallowbay.com, will shut down later this year.

The Tunelab administrators also told us that whether Burnley returns to music or not, if he uses the Breaking Benjamin name it will not be with the same musicians who are in the band now.

The only official word on all this is Ben Burnley's statement, although more details are likely to emerge over the summer.

Burnley, who does not like to travel, told us a while back that the group was being more selective about touring: "You know, it's our fourth album. We're all getting a little older, you know, and because (of) my illness, we've chosen to just be more selective with our touring. We basically did it simply for no other reason but that we can. We would do so many shows that it was just ridiculous and, you know, we're just getting to the point now in our lives where we wanna be a little more selective."

Burnley's two solo acoustic shows, on July 9th in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire and July 10th in Atlantic City, New Jersey, are still on, while guitarist Aaron Fink and bassist Mark Klepaski may do a reunion show with their previous band, Lifer.

OFF THE RECORD

It's well-known that Ben Burnley has a lot of phobias, among them a fear of flying, and his dislike of traveling is not exactly convenient for a touring rock band. Whatever his issues are, it's clear that if he does continue making music it will be on his own peculiar terms, while the rest of Breaking Benjamin want to keep working. Expect to see those guys start a new project, and don't be surprised if Burnley resurfaces at some point with a new version of Breaking Benjamin -- one more tailored to his lifestyle.

FAST FACTS

Breaking Benjamin was formed in Pennsylvania in 1998 and has released four studio albums, starting with 2002's Saturate.
The band's latest effort, 2009's Dear Agony, has sold nearly 600,000 copies since coming out last fall.
The quartet's several Top 10 rock hits include "I Will Not Bow," "Breath," "The Diary Of Jane," "So Cold" and "Sooner Or Later."

Gavin Rossdale has officially gone on the Los Angeles radio station, KROQ, to announce that Bush is returning to the front line in 2010. Their show at the Epicenter weekend will be the first live show in eight years.

Also in the fall, the first new studio album in nine years from Bush will be released on Interscope titled, "Everything Always Now." The new album was produced by Bob Rock, who also produced Gavin's 2008 solo debut, Wanderlust which spawned the crossover hit single, "Love Remains the Same" (and whose credits include seminal work with Metallica, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, and more).

It all came full circle for Bush when Gavin previewed "Afterlife," the first single pick from "Everything Always Now," during the KROQ interview. KROQ launched Bush's career on the Rock charts in late-1994, with their debut hit single, "Everything Zen," from their 6-times RIAA platinum debut album Sixteen Stone. It was the maiden voyage of the British band that emerged two years earlier from Shepherd's Bush and went on to more than 16-times platinum cumulative album sales in the U.S. and Canada alone: Razorblade Suitcase (1996), Deconstructed (1997), The Science of Things (1999), and Golden State (2001).

Over the same period, Bush compiled an amazing string of 14 consecutive Top 40 hit singles on the Billboard Modern Rock and Mainstream Rock charts, including ten that hit the Top 5. Four of these became #1 hits that forever define the decade of the '90s: "Comedown" (1995), "Glycerine" (1995), "Swallowed" (1996), and "The Chemicals Between Us" (1999).

In the continuing battle to own the music game genre Harmonix and MTV Games have fired a salvo that could perhaps settle things for good. In a stunning press release this morning the two companies announced that Nickelback will make their debut in Rock Band this week. You heard it here first: Guitar Hero has officially won music games.

Starting on June 29th the following tracks will be available on Xbox 360, Wii, and PlayStation 3:

Burn It to the Ground
Figured You Out
Never Again
Photograph
Rockstar
This Afternoon

The collection of songs is titled "Nickelback Pack 01," indicating that there will be subsequent Nickelback song packs released for Rock Band and cementing its runner-up status as a music rhythm game.

However, if you happen to love Nickelback and ardently follow their every move, the decision to appear on Rock Band might come as a surprise. The lead singer has previously issued negative statements about music games, stating:

"It's tough to find other bands out there, because either they're making a record, or they just got done touring. So kids, start rock bands. Set down the 'Guitar Hero,' learn how to play an actual guitar and start a band, because it's hard to find more bands to put a solid rock and roll package together, to get out there." -ps3.ign.com

Rated R, the 2000 sophomore album from Queens of the Stone Age, was the moment QOTSA stopped being the Kyuss guys' new band and started becoming the heaving, spitting, strutting monster we know today. The band started out opening track "Feel Good Hit of the Summer" by chanting, "Nicotine, Valium, Vicodin, marijuana, ecstasy, and alcohol" a bunch of times. They then spent the ensuing 11 tracks doing everything they could to simulate every effect of every one of those drugs, all through the lens of bleary crunch-rock.

Rated R hits the decade mark this year (yes, you are old), and in celebration Interscope/UMe will reissue the album on August 3 (August 2 in the UK) as an expanded double CD.

The first of the two discs includes the original album, and the second finds room for six B-sides ("Ode to Clarissa", "You're So Vague", a live version of "Monsters in the Parasol", a new version of old song "Born to Hula", and covers of Romeo Void's "Never Say Never" and the Kinks' "Who'll Be the Next in Line") and a recording of the band's set at the 2000 Reading Festival, including nine unreleased songs.

In further QOTSA news, frontman Josh Homme's Rekords Rekords imprint has a new partnership with Dangerbird. The first record released from the two labels will be QOTSA buddyAlain Johannes' debut solo album Spark, a full-length tribute to his late wife, Natasha Shneider of the band Eleven. It's due August 31. Future releases include new material from Eagles of Death Metal and a box set from the Desert Sessions, Homme's all-star collaboration project.

Also, Them Crooked Vultures, Homme's supergroup with Dave Grohl and John Paul Jones, will perform a benefit show at Brixton O2 Academy in London on July 5. The benefit is for Eagles of Death Metal bassist Brian O'Connor, who has been diagnosed with cancer. -pitchfork.com

The final night of Megadeth's historic month-long Rust In Peace 20th anniversary tour has been captured for the upcoming Rust In Peace Live Blu-ray, DVD and CD, due out September 7 on Shout! Factory.

On March 31, 2010, at this show at the Hollywood Palladium, not far from where Dave Mustaine formed the band in 1983, Megadeth played their landmark, genre-defining 1990 Rust In Peace album in its entirety, in addition to other Megadeth favorites. Rust In Peace Live also marks the return of original bassist David Ellefson (Megadeth 1983-2002) group after eight years. Ellefson (bass), joins Mustaine (lead vocals, guitar), Shawn Drover (drums) and Chris Broderick (guitar).

Rust In Peace Live features the entire Rust In Peace track listing, including classics "Holy Wars...The Punishment Due" and "Hangar 18" along with bonus fan favorites from various other Megadeth releases such as "Symphony For Destruction," "Peace Sells," and "Skin O' My Teeth."

Megadeth founder/frontman/guitarist Dave Mustaine explains, "We are pumped to be able to share the RIP Live concert with you all around the world. The anniversary and David Ellefson coming back was better than a facelift and a bottle of Viagra for old Vic."

Rockers BUCKCHERRY are taking their desire to help raise awareness for the tragedy in the Gulf Coast one step further: as of today, a new version of the track "Our World", from the forthcoming album "All Night Long", will be available for purchase as an iTunes exclusive with all of the band proceeds from the sales to go to charities devoted to helping victims of the oil spill -- both human and animal.

To download the new version of "Our World", fans can click here.

Last week, the band posted the album version of "Our World" as a free download on their web site as their offering of support, but decided that they wanted to do more.

"Our World" was originally written as an anthemic cry out to help right the social, environmental, economic and other wrongs of this world. The band reworked the lyrics to represent their commitment to expose the BP disaster and to bring awareness and support to the crisis and its victims. The track was just rewritten and recorded for this unique and unfortunate situation. See below for the new lyrics to "Our World".

According to The Pulse of Radio, BUCKCHERRY's new album, "All Night Long", arrives on August 3 and the first 20,000 fans to pick up a copy at Best Buy will find something extra in the package -- a six-song acoustic EP containing five tracks that have never been heard before. Guitarist Keith Nelson told The Pulse of Radio how this came out. "What a lot of people don't know about this record is that it started off as an acoustic record," he said " As we progressed, it became pretty evident that it wasn't gonna be an acoustic record, it was gonna be a full-on electric rock 'n' roll record. But I could not let go of the idea of some of these songs that we had, so what we did while we were in there is we finished some of those songs acoustically and we recorded them."

Included in the EP will be four brand new songs recorded during the "All Night Long" sessions, an acoustic version of the album track "These Things", and the song "Black Butterfly", which was left off the band's 2008 album of the same name.

The EP will be titled "Reckless Sons" and will come with special artwork and packaging.

The title track from "All Night Long" is the album's first single and already getting heavy airplay at rock radio stations.

BUCKCHERRY will guest on the nationally syndicated radio show "Rockline" with host Bob Coburn on Monday, August 2 at 8:30 p.m. PT / 11:30 p.m. ET. Fans are encouraged to speak with BUCKCHERRY by calling 1-800-344-ROCK (7625).

"Our World" lyrics:

Lately I've been thinking
About how we live our lives
There are too many conflicts
'Cause no one sees eye to eye

And now the world is changing
We got pollutants in the sea
We keep on fighting for oil and killing in the Middle East

(Chorus)
This is our world
To make it last
We have to not repeat the past
Just step outside
When will we learn
The destruction of our world. Our world

If all we have is one life
And you're never coming back again
Would you look at what we've done as a beginning Or an end

When I feel the sunlight
I wonder how much my world can take
We must do something now with so many lives at stake

(Chorus)

This is our world
We must give back
Instead of killing what we have
So look inside and spread the word
If you want to save our world

I'm standing up
I've had enough
I'm sick and tired of just waiting
Our world corrupt,
So out of touch,
Our world how do I save her
How do I save her?
How do I save her?
How do I save her?

(Chorus)

This is our world
We must give back
Instead of killing what we have
So look inside and spread the word
If you want to save our world

In theory, Clark Vogeler joined the Toadies at just the right time.

It was 1996 when he got his invite--only a month after the breakup of his former, locally adored band, Funland.

"It was a pretty perfect situation," the guitarist says over the phone from his home in Los Angeles. "I was joining a band that had just gone platinum [with Rubberneck], and we were going in to record the follow-up."

Turns out, reality wasn't so kind.

Says Vogeler: "I joined just in time for five years of bullshit."

Before Vogeler joined the Toadies, the band had already become radio mainstays across the country and hard-rock icons at home in N. Texas. But somehow they couldn't keep the attention of their label, Interscope Records. As was the plan, the band went into the studio, sure enough--but the higher-ups at Interscope didn't approve of Feeler, the disc the Toadies recorded and hoped to release in 1998 as the follow-up to the record that spawned classics "Possum Kingdom," "Tyler" and "I Come From The Water."

But the album was shelved, never to see the light of day. A disappointing turn of events? Absolutely. Granted, he's biased--it was his first album with the band, remember--but Vogeler never understood the label's decision. Feeler, he says, is the Toadies "at its purest form."

"It would have been a great second Toadies record," he says.

Stuck at the mercy of their label, the band returned to the road and to the drawing board. After three more years of touring and writing, the Toadies had enough material to produce their eventual Rubberneck follow-up, Hell Below/Stars Above, in 2001--a full seven years after their debut. By that point, though, the radio landscape that so warmly welcomed the Toadies in 1994 had all but vanished.

"It had been seven years, which is ridiculous," Vogeler says. "The trends changed. People were listening to different stuff."

And, really, the band's future had already been cast. Within a year of Hell Below/Stars Above's release, the band broke up. Frontman Vaden Todd Lewis went on to form the Burden Brothers. Drummer Mark Reznicek went country, joining Eleven Hundred Springs. Vogeler, meanwhile, went to Hollywood--where he would eventually earn three Emmy nominations for his editing work on Project Runway.

Looking back on those last days of the Toadies, Vogeler openly wonders if Feeler--and, namely, the label's reaction (or lack thereof) to it--was to blame for the band's demise.

"We were crushed and surprised when Interscope rejected it," he says. "It just deflated us emotionally and personally. It might be part of why we broke up in the first place."

But when the band reformed in 2008 to release No Deliverance, which came on local independent label Kirtland Records, everything changed. Fans too young to see the Toadies during their mid-'90s heyday showed up in droves to see the band on their victory lap. The draw was massive--the band performed to the biggest crowds of its career in near-headlining slots at festivals like Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits. In turn, the band gained some much-needed perspective--on their accomplishments, on their successes and, sure enough, on their failures.

Not surprisingly, Feeler remained a bug in the band's collective ear. And this month, 13 years after the fact, with Interscope's ownership of Feeler's songs now expired, the band returned to the studio to give the songs another whirl (the band retains rights to the songs, but Interscope remains in control of the recordings). In August, the band finally will release the disc--first as a digital download and later in standard compact disc form. Mostly because, well, they can--and because, unlike Interscope, Kirtland stands behind the disc. But beyond that, the Toadies are returning to Feeler because they feel like they need to.

"What I feel when I hear and play these songs," Vogeler explains, "is the optimism that I felt at the time--which was only to be crushed and shat on soon after. There's a real draw of redemption for us, to finally put this record out. We want to prove that Interscope was wrong."

And they're doing so quickly: Feeler, which originally took some three and a half months to record, was recorded in just a two-week span this time around. On Friday, the band was putting the final touches onto the disc in a Los Angeles studio, mixing the record that once was supposed to serve as the Toadies' second full-length but will now serve as its fourth.

"It's been the easiest recording process I've ever been a part of," Vogeler says. "And what we're all pleasantly surprised about is that there's so much life in these songs."

And the band's doing very little to change the songs. The arrangements, Vogeler explains, are largely the same. So, too, are the lyrics--although, Vogeler concedes, Lewis has made a few edits in that regard.

The production, however, has changed a great deal. And, despite the gravitas he and Toadies folklore place upon Feeler, Vogeler thinks that's a good thing. When the band originally recorded the album, it did so on Pro Tools--then a new, relatively untapped software--and the album, in turn, boasted a glossy sheen. Going back and listening to the recordings, that much stood out immediately to the band.

"We felt like there was something missing," Vogeler says. And now, with creative control in their hands and a supportive label behind them, the band is making sure to record the album they want to record. "One of the big lessons I've learned," Vogeler continues, "is that you don't have to spend $300,000 to make a good recording."

The result, Vogeler adds, is a dirty record--one that fans might see as a detour of sorts between Rubberneck and Hell Below/Stars Above, but one that capably explains the long-missing link between the two.

And, with the Toadies also between new records--Lewis is currently writing for a No Deliverance follow-up the band hopes to soon record and then release in 2011--the process of returning to their old bridge of an album is proving a fruitful one.

"I have a feeling that it will influence the next record," Vogeler says, detailing how even the lack of guitar solos on Feeler has caused the band to rethink their inclusion of so many on their new material. "Of course we all feel like we'd much rather have put Feeler out in '98, but doing it now is a good thing, too. I mean, there's 50 unreleased Toadies songs, at least. To start chipping away at that is great. " -Pete Freedman -dallasobserver.com

Meanwhile, the band's 3rd annual Dia De Los Toadies, is also scheduled, this time taking place, outside Austin in New Braunfels, TX. Other acts at this years festival include: Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears, Heartless Bastards, Centro-Matic, Sleepercar, Girl in a Coma, Two Tons of Steel, Here Holy Spain and Descender with more acts TBA.

The band plan to go back into the studio at the end of this year to record brand new material but, in the interim are very glad to be able to bring Feeler to light for all the folks wondering whatever happened and what it might have sounded like.

Weezer have released a track called 'Represent' in honour of the 2010 USA World Cup Soccer team.

"It matters how you play the game, it matters that you can't take the pain" sings Rivers Cuomo in the slick pop tune.

In an un-sportsmanlike turn, the song even proclaims that it matters whether you win or lose.

The USA kicked off their world cup campaign against England over the weekend, with a spectacular 1:1 draw. -music-news.com

Puddle of Mudd have announced that their longtime bassist, Doug Ardito, has left the group. Ardito joined the band in 1999 and offered his support not only as a bassist, but also as a songwriter.

"It's been a great 9 years of rocking the music of Puddle of Mudd with Doug. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors," frontman Wes Scantlin said in a statement.

Puddle of Mudd, who are currently touring in support of their album Volume 4: Songs in the Key of Love and Hate, will replace Ardito with Damien Starkey, a friend of the band. Starkey will join the band for the remainder of its summer concert engagements and until a new bassist is found.

Puddle of Mudd will next be performing as part of the Carnival of Madness tour with Shinedown, Sevendust, 10 Years and Chevelle. The tour kicks off on July 16 in Jacksonville, Florida.

Slash was attacked on stage during his concert at the PalaSharp Arena in Milan, Italy last night in a manner that was eerily similar to Noel Gallagher's onstage assault two years ago in Canada.

As you can see in the video below, during the solo in Sweet Child O' Mine, an unknown assailant rushed the guitar icon from behind (it starts around the 1:15 mark) and knocked him down onto his monitor. One of the band's security guards was in hot pursuit, however, and tackled the culprit - the two plunged into the pit below.

Miraculously, Slash barely missed a beat, jumping right back up to resume playing (he didn't even lose his top hat!). But after a few bars of soloing, it became clear that some real damage had been done to Slash's Les Paul. He handed it to his guitar tech who soon replaced it with a working model.

Proving that It takes more than one bad apple to keep him down, literally and figuratively, Slash later commented on the incident on his Facebook page: "It was a rowdy crowd for sure - but amazing. The guy who nailed me didn't take me down but he busted my poor guitar. Ah well... it was a kick-ass rock show."

Less forgiving was Slash's wife, Perla, who fired off the following Tweet: "The guy came down from the rafters n ran up to slash n grabbed him during his sweet child of mine soLo. Broke the head on the guitar, junior grabbed the asshole n they bth fell to the floor. Junior hit his head hard and the milan security did nothing! Kicked him out but did,t arrest him I love italy! But fuck those security n promoters for doing nothing! Slash could have seriously and junior did. Its not right! What r they there for? As decoration? No they r there to protect the people n the artists. Its not right".    -musicradar.com

Avenged Sevenfold drummer Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan died on December 28, 2009 from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs and alcohol, Orange County Deputy Coroner Mitchell Sigal told Rolling Stone. Toxicology reports indicate that Sullivan suffered "acute polydrug intoxication due to combined effects of Oxycodone, Oxymorphone, Diazepam/Nordiazepam and ethanol."

Oxycodone is painkiller that substitutes for Codeine, Oxymorphone is a painkiller similar to Morphine, Diazepam/Nordiazepam are anxiety medications and ethanol is the intoxicant in alcohol. Actor Heath Ledger similarly died from acute polydrug intoxication on January 22, 2008. Sigal added that Sullivan also had cardiomegaly (an enlarged heart), which was marked in the coroner's report as a "significant condition" that may have played a role in the drummer's death. The Coroner's Department conducted "five or six" different tests to verify the cause of death, Sigal added.

"To all of us who loved Jimmy, the only thing relevant about December 28 is that is the night we lost, too soon, a son, brother, friend and one of the most talented artists in the world," the band's manager Larry Jacobson tells Rolling Stone. "Every day, his parents and sisters, and his brothers in Avenged Sevenfold smile at the many memories they have of Jimmy and his fans around the world revel in the musical legacy he left them."

Sullivan, 28, died at his home in Huntington Beach, California. He was buried in a private ceremony on January 6th. Avenged Sevenfold guitarist Synyster Gates delivered a eulogy at the cemetery in front of the band, Sullivan's wife and family, ex-Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul, Bullet For My Valentine frontman Matt Tuck and members of Buckcherry and My Chemical Romance. -rollingstone.com

Music industry superstars Eric Clapton, Dave Matthews Band and Kid Rock have each entered into exclusive agreements with Seven45 Studios  to provide songs for Power Gig: Rise of the SixString, the first band videogame for which the guitar peripheral is a functioning six-string electric guitar. The deals mark the first time ever that songs from each of the three artists will appear as part of a music videogame.  Power Gig: Rise of the SixString will be available for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 October 2010.

Iconic guitarist Eric Clapton, ranked by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the top five greatest guitarists of all time, is the only person ever to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times--once as a solo performer, and also as a member of rock bands Cream and the Yardbirds. The Grammy Award-winning Dave Matthews Band, much admired for their improvisational live performances, celebrated their fifth consecutive album to debut at number one on the Billboard 200 this past summer with the release of Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King. Kid Rock rose to fame with the 1998 album, Devil Without A Cause, and his most recent album, Rock N Roll Jesus sold more than 5 million albums worldwide and was certified triple platinum in the US.  In addition to the agreements with these three artists, Power Gig will feature a robust song list featuring major label artists and emerging talent from the indie scene.

"I was never interested in pressing buttons on a guitar to entertain myself or anyone else," said Kid Rock.  "The reason I signed up with Power Gig is because this game is a way to not only have fun, but also to play real notes on an actual guitar!  Anyone can now rock out--even if they have never shredded before in their life."-gamersdailynews.com

Three-time Grammy nominees STONE SOUR have announced a September 7th release date for their much-buzzed-about new album Audio Secrecy.  "It's probably the best thing I've done in a long time," lead singer Corey Taylor recently told MTV News. "We recorded 18 songs -- and knowing that every tune not only has its own identity but is damn good, I'm very, very proud of that."

The band is giving fans a sneak preview of the album by offering a limited-time download of a new song titled "Mission Statement." Says Taylor, "In this day and age, it's important to be strong enough to know who you are. This song is not only a rallying cry for us, but it says everything about what this album means to us. This is just the beginning."

"Mission Statement" will be available for 48 hours only beginning this Thursday, June 10th at 11am EST. The track can be downloaded at www.stonesour.com.

The album's first commercial single will be "Say You'll Haunt Me," which ships to modern rock and rock radio on Tuesday, July 6th.

Stone Sour (Taylor, guitarists James Root and Josh Rand, bassist Shawn Economaki and drummer Roy Mayorga) and producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Alice In Chains, Deftones) recorded Audio Secrecy at Blackbird Studios in Nashville during the destructive storms and devastating floods that hit the historic heart of Music City.

"Recording during the flood was crazy," says Taylor. "Luckily the studio and the band weren't affected too greatly. The studio was untouched and the neighborhood we were living in just missed being flooded. But a lot of the areas around us were decimated. Whole houses were submerged and for a week, the roads in and out of Old Hickory were completely covered with water. I've been getting the word out to people to contact Nashville Flood Relief if they would like to donate money to help the people of Nashville. Also, they can contact the Gibson Foundation (www.gibsonfoundation.org) to do the same. We were lucky, but so many people were not. I hope can pull together and do what we can for Nashville."

While making the album, Stone Sour has been taping webisodes covering the recording process and answering fan questions. They can be viewed at www.stonesour.com.

The quintet will be previewing select songs from the album during this summer's Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival. The 36-date tour launches August 17 in Minneapolis, MN and will visit arenas and amphitheatres across North America before wrapping October 4 in Madison, WI.  Tickets are available via www.RockstarUproar.com and www.livenation.com.

Audio Secrecy is the follow-up to the gold-certified Come What(ever) May, which was also produced by Raskulinecz and debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart and spawned three radio hits, including the No. 1 smash hit single, "Through Glass," "Sillyworld" and "Made of Scars." Billboard hailed the record as "an intense, taut piece of work," Alternative Press called the group "masters of ass-kicking," adding, "In a better America, Stone Sour would be the face of American rock" and Revolver magazine gave the disc four stars and praised the quintet for "demonstrating a dynamic range equaled by few of their peers." Stone Sour's self-titled debut, also certified gold, spawned the band's first breakthrough hit "Bother," which was spotlighted on Spider-Man soundtrack.

According to The Pulse of Radio, THE SMASHING PUMPKINS have announced a 14-date tour of "intimate" venues that will begin on July 6 in Cleveland and finish up on July 24 in Memphis. This will be the band's first live appearances since December 2008 and will also introduce new members Nicole Fiorentino on bass and Mike Byrne on drums alongside guitarist Jeff Schroeder and founder/frontman Billy Corgan. The shows will feature "a balance of classics, a few obscure ones, and new 'Teargarden' material," according to Corgan.

Last week, the PUMPKINS released the four-song "Teargarden By Kaleidyscope Vol.1: Songs For Sailor" EP, the first of 11 specially-packaged, limited edition EPs that will eventually collect all 44 songs from the band's "Teargarden By Kaleidyscope" album, which is in the process of being recorded.

The four songs were originally issued one at a time as free downloads, before being bundled in the extras-laden boxed EP.

The PUMPKINS are planning to invite selected fans to attend their soundchecks on the tour, with Corgan explaining, "We are going to do something unique, which is play an invite-only set during sound check of almost all new, unreleased songs. We're still figuring out a way to make it possible for some of the fans who'll be in the line outside waiting to get in for that."

SEVENDUST has had a brutal grip on eardrums since 1997 when its debut self-titled LP hit stores via TVT Records and propelled the band into the spotlight of the metal world. Refusing to rest on their initial success, the Atlanta quintet has stayed extremely busy since then, releasing seven more albums and touring nonstop, including slots with METALLICA, KORN and KID ROCK (plus countless festival appearances).

This June, SEVENDUST continues its explosive run with a deluxe reissue of its self-titled debut. Produced by Jay Jay French and Mark Mendoza of TWISTED SISTER, the original has sold more than 700,000 copies and was certified gold in 1999. This digitally re-mastered reissue provides some extra muscle to all of the original hits (including "Black" and "Bitch") and tacks on five bonus tracks and a DVD, which features the nationally aired TV special "Live and Loud", recorded at The Metro in Chicago, and additional never-before-seen live and behind the scenes footage of the band. The bonus tracks have been culled from various releases, making the definitive edition a must-have for any fan. "Breathe" was previously only available on the "Strangeland" film soundtrack, "Terminator (Breathe Remix)" on the MTV "Celebrity Death Match" soundtrack, and live renditions of "Bitch" and "Prayer" were only released on the Japanese edition of the record. "Sevendust (Definitive Edition)" also includes a cover of ALICE COOPER's legendary summer anthem "School's Out".

"Sevendust" was recorded in Atlanta during the tragic terrorist bombing of the 1996 Summer Olympic Games. The widespread panic in Atlanta at the time fueled the band to create one of the fiercest albums to date.

Originally known as CRAWLSPACE, the SEVENDUST lineup is made up of singer/frontman Lajon Witherspoon, bassist Vince Hornsby, guitarists John Connolly and Clint Lowery, and drummer Morgan Rose.

"Sevendust (Definitive Edition)" track listing:

01. Black

Other than taking a short break to play some riffs for Rihanna, top-hatted guitarist Slash spent the better part of last year working on his solo album, which many fans took as further proof that Velvet Revolver were no more.

The supergroup -- made up of Slash, fellow Guns N' Roses alums Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum, Wasted Youth guitarist Dave Kushner and Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland -- produced a pair of well-received albums. Then Weiland went back to STP, leaving Velvet Revolver without a frontman. Still, despite the group having been mostly quiet for the last two years, Slash says they fully intend to push forward -- and they even have some songs ready to go.

"As soon as we got off the road from the last tour and parted ways with Scott, we got together and wrote half a dozen really great, sort of heavy metal pieces of music," Slash told MTV News. "It's a lot heavier than what Velvet Revolver has put out, so I'm dying to put out the quintessential Velvet Revolver record."

Slash said the new material better matches the group's original intentions. "When Duff and Matt and I first got together, we wrote a ton of material that never saw the light of day, and that was all very heavy," Slash explained.

"It's definitely our natural way of doing things. But when we started working with Scott, we started to lighten things up a lot, and we progressively got lighter. As much as I love the two records we did do, one of the things that was progressively more and more frustrating was the direction the band took."

Slash's self-titled solo effort, released in April, features an eclectic mix of guest appearances, from Fergie to Iggy Pop to Kid Rock to former Alter Bridge singer Myles Kennedy, who's currently fronting the guitarist's touring band. And according to Slash, he wasn't the only Velvet Revolver bandmember with more than one iron in the fire.

"I've been doing this record, and there's a tour and Duff's been playing with Jane's Addiction, so everybody has been pretty busy," Slash said. "But at some point early next year, we're going to reconvene and take a good serious look at everything that we've got."

In the meantime, Velvet Revolver remain a band without a singer -- but not for lack of trying. "This next record will be us doing what we want to do without making any concessions to anybody," Slash declared. "Which is why it's taking so long to find a singer, because we want to find the guy who can front that band and not something we have to conform to."  -MTV.COM

Well, that was fast. Back in the fall, Trent Reznor took Nine Inch Nails on the road for a tour he called "Wave Goodbye," which was meant to represent the retirement of Nine Inch Nails as a band. But Reznor didn't hang up the musical spurs for long, as he is back with How to Destroy Angels, a group named after a This Mortal Coil song that consists of himself, wife (and former West Indian Girl singer) Mariqueen Maandig and producer Atticus Ross (who has provided studio trickery for the last four Nine Inch Nails releases and recently produced Coheed and Cambria's Year of the Black Rainbow).

In keeping with recent trends, Reznor has provided the entirety of How to Destroy Angels' self-titled debut EP for free (though if you want a higher-quality recording with a new high-definition video, that will cost you two bucks). Though the EP doesn't carry the Nine Inch Nails name, the music is consistent with Reznor's latter-day output. It's a series of claustrophobic ambient soundscapes interrupted by blasts of distorted rock and stuttering dance beats. Most of the vocals are handled by Maandig, who infuses the tracks with a haunting humanity and a lovely sense of melody.

"The Space in Between" is a typical track that begins with a simple drum beat and slowly adds wailing synthesizers, multiple vocal tracks and a growing sense of dread. But the standout track is by far "Parasite," which would have fit in perfectly on Nine Inch Nails' final studio album The Slip. It has punishing computerized drums, a rugged bass roll and enough guitar squalls to remind you that this is essentially a rock record. "Fur Lined" is a fantastic piece of death disco, while "A Drowning" unfurls a harrowing downward spiral of sound over seven glorious minutes.

You can download the free EP by clicking HERE or if you're more analogue, you can wait until the CD arrives in stores this Sunday (June 6). (Vinyl fans will have to wait even longer.) Just like The Slip, the debut EP from How to Destroy Angels is a remarkably accomplished collection, especially considering Reznor is giving it away for nothing in return (save for your e-mail address). He may not be driving Nine Inch Nails anymore, but Reznor still has enough bite to work, and the addition of his wife and his longtime co-producer will make How to Destroy Angels a true player on the rock landscape. -MTV.COM

The Kings of Leon may have ditched the sunny climes of Los Angeles (or their native Nashville) to work on the follow-up to their breakout album, Only by the Night, but that doesn't mean the new album is shaping up to be a dour affair. Far from it, in fact.

"[This is] the first time we'd ever recorded in New York City, and we thought we'd come out with a little more darker record, because we had done all our records either in Nashville or L.A., where it's a little more chilled out, not as much hustle and bustle," KOL drummer Nathan Followill told
